Here's an idea... you know how the hype about some groups is so intense, and there are times where you are left wondering what the fuss is about. Maybe you sample some of their songs, or have a couple of their singles on compilations, and you simply cannot understand the appeal... I certainly have that issue. Some artists release SO much that it is well-nigh impossible to figure out what the highlights are. Reading the reviews of debut albums from some of these new highly-hyped artists seldom helps either - it's all KILLLLLAH and no one seems to mention a real highlight. WELL, this thread is an attempt to address these things! Here you have two options - post up a band name that has been hyped that you haven't heard anything noteworthy from... others who know and like the band well, post up one or two of their best tracks ever and see if you can convert the unbeliever!!

To start, try to tell me a couple of top tunes from any of these groups, who I have never found a 'stand-out' tune from:

Parasense
Sirius Isness
Nomad
Silicon Sound
Kindzadza
Violet Vision
Pope of Gegga
Menog
Haldolium

For example, I never liked Safi Connection, who have released so many albums and singles in just a few short years, before hearing two really exceptional tunes from the group: Space Navigators and D-Specialist. Now I'm a bit more open to the possibility that some of their other songs could have some appeal for me... well, let's try this out

Hey Basilisk.. this is a cool topic.. let me try and start..

well, as for Nomad, im not the biggest fan myself, and have only really enjoyed "magic sofa Show" released on a Moonspirits compilation. It has a really groovy bassline with some cool psyche sounds, and a smooth trance.. Plus its slower full-on tempo makes for a fun listen.. an all round happy tune.

Silicon Sound. well, i pretty much enjoy all of there sounds and songs.. They have a very deep sound for full-on, and its far from being some copy-paste garbage.. They have made many killer tunes that i've mixed in the past such as "The Shell" a really nicely done remix on the ghost in the shell theme song, "Voyager", a full-on track that reminds me of vibrasphere.. Then there's the album, that i enjoy almost all the tunes.. it might not all be dancefloor smasher's, but its great to listen to after a couple of tokes..

As for artists i think there's "over hype", i'd have to agree with Safi Connection, and add Neuromotor, Suria (with the exception of Earth in Trance Set), Audiolized, Melicia and Hux Flux.. and Talamasca as well.

Ok basilisk, I don’t like all the artists you’ve mentioned, but some of them released some true gems worth mentioning. I’ll give a few words about those I like the most:

Sirius Isness
The first couple of tracks I heard from them where really, really nice atmospheric full on tracks. Not as “in your face” as most full on, but very dreamy. Their latest works are more typical full on in my opinion, and their album was quite disappointing. The last title-track was really nice and uplifting though. I recommend these tracks:

Altöm vs. Sirius Isness – Time To Become Conscious (VA - Neo-Robotics on Neurobiotic 2003)
Mekkanikka vs. Sirius Isness – 2 Weeks Ago In Mexico (VA – Beat-Ific on Spirit Zone 2004)
Sirius Isness - Resolution Of Duality (Sirius Isness - Resolution of Duality on Moonspirits 2004)

Silicon Sound
Quite uplifting full on (released a quite progressive track, “0.68 Second” on Submachine a few years ago though). Recommendations:

Silicon Sound – Strange Planet (VA - Psychedelic Summer on Transient 2003)
Silicon Sound – Nexus 6 (Remix) (Silicon Sound – Pure Analog on Moonspirits 2003)
Genetic Spin – Lord Of The Strings (Silicon Sound Remix) (Genetic Spin – Backspin on Nervine 2004)

Haldolium
German progressive trance at its best. I must admit I’m more fond of some of their sideprojects though (especially Emou and Timetech), but they have released some excellent stuff over the years. Their new album is quite good and worth checking out. Other Recommendations:

Haldolium – 2nd Movement (Haldolium – Be Real on Free Form 2002)
The entire “H2” album - Especially the 2nd ambient CD (Free Form 2000)           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

Some (mostly newer) groups and labels where I never really understood the massive hype:

Most of the 3D Vision crew (CPU, Absolum, Nomad etc.)
Basically everything from Chemical Crew (Skazi, Exaile, Void etc.)
The Misted Muppet
Vibe Tribe
… and plenty more           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

WRAAA... Pr0fane. Absolum and CPU are the greatest artists ever! Hehe, but it's a matter of taste.

But I agree with you on the Chemical Crew-part, it doesn't appeal to me. While 3D Vision is my favourite label (the one and only high-quality full-on label that stands out in my point of view). Maybe you're simply not into the harder stuff?

i'll play your game you rogue...

Silicon Sound - is in my opinion underrated. i think at his worst he still is skills and techniques higher then most producers out right now. this result from him being both a classically trained musician (sax player) and a sound engineer... you simply cannot beat that combo, production wise.i'll name 2 tracks that havent been mentioned, although if they werent i would use them as well.

"Silicon Sound - Oblivion (w/Jaia)" is one of the deepest tracks ive heard in trance... it is an example of what and how morning deep trance should do to anyone.

"Silicon Sound - Cypher V2)" is also a great track, it reminds me that aggresiveness is not needed and that beutiful trance can be still produced without the need for power hungry riffs.

Violet Vision are groundbreakers in my opinion. there is too much to say about them in a paragraph. in short, their sound is innovative and sounds nothing like anyone out there. also they seem to have a diffrent agenda when it comes to remixing then most.

"Violet Vision - Substance 44" - to me is one of those track that is the nexus between trance and breakbeat/ambient.

"Infected Mushroom - Cities Of The Future (violet vision rmx)" is what i was talking about, a diffrent approach to remixing.. u must hear it inorder to know what im talking about.

groups that have yet to impress me (bring on the hate mail):
Dino Psaras
Bushman

Surrender, check out "Viper - Viper" on Distance To Goa 7. It's an old Dino Psaras track (with Nick Smith and Steve Ronan). A great track, but I haven't heard anything interesting from Dino since that track... and it's a pretty old one too, if I may say.

According to the list uve provided:

Silicon Sound : 'Surrender' mentioned that this artist is eons ahead i terms of production. My basis is a lot simpler. I like his music . My fav wud be 'Onida'. Its just sucha peppy track. U cant help movin.

Nomad : Another great artist from the French republic. His track "magic SOfa Show" is very happy, swingy style. Great tempo and the tune is so nice.
His other track 'Albavoce' is completely different. Got this madd pounding beat with a rollin bassline. A darker image of Nomad.

Sirius isness: im hooked onto his track 'Jugo Verde'. Such an uplifting melody. Perfect Morning tunes.

And another master at work wud be "WIZZY NOISE"!!!

Artists who still have to 'Step up'.

1. Earthling.
2. Shanti.
3. Cyrus the Virus.

raider, i know that track and youre right it is good - nothing since really caught my mind.

CPU - took me by surprise i must say. i went to see him live about a year ago and it changed my whole perception about his musical skills. the 1st album (2nd one coming out soon), is one of my favorite trance pieces of all times. it is a wash of agressive yet intelligent psychedelia oozing with trippy sounds and slicing synths that pierced my brain for a few months due to continuous listening. again, the fact that he is a classicaly trained musician (jazz bands) plays a key role in his excellence.

"CPU - Doors to Visions" is a track that exemplifies cpu's essence, buildups, breakdowns, percussion loops that carry one to extreme places, and a certain funkyness that almost a comedic relief in an otherwise sea of maddness.

"CPU - Single Dose (w/spacetribe)" is cpu's new style, much diffrent then the old album and what we can expect on the upcoming. the basslines are futuristic, the track has a certain grip that his music has, i think he really tries to imagine what each moment will due to the listener, on the floor and off.

some more names i dont really connect to:

Parasense.
Antidote.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Personally, I like "Shot Shot, Voila" the most (probably my favourite track ever!). It's extremely intensive and wild.

While "Virtual Flirt" is a real masterpiece put together in the right way. "Killer Rabbit" is a classic, I even enjoyed the remix!

But I guess CPU has gone a new direction, his latest tracks "Clone Army Version 2.0", "Simulation" and "Scopes" has a more GMS-like groove to it. I don't mind it, but I like it acid-like and dark. Let's hope his project with Absolum, Synergy, can keep him to the darker side a bit longer - their tracks "The Race, Down The Stairs, Inside The Sphere, The One Eyed Man" are simply fantastic.

Don't really like Space Tribe's sound in Single Dose. I used to be a huge Space Tribe-fan, but lately he haven't caught up with the sound and quality of present music.

Parasense - Iron Punk
Menog - Alien Planet
Kindzadza - Dasty Hoes
Kindzadza - What's in the Box

I don't really care for any of the other groups on the list...

Overrated: Azax Syndrome
With the exception of track 4 off the album (which is silly fun), I don't find them dark, twisted or however else they're described.
