Closed-mindedness?

Hey everyone!
I just wanted to share my thoughts in this brief post.
When i first started listening to psytrance, years ago, i immediately thought that it required some kind of an open mind to be able to "hear and feel the music". Actually, i still think so!
However, reading through this forum, i see so many people who will go as far as bashing and calling a whole genre or style crap, simply because it is not their favorite.
I personally am very open-minded, and i don't think there's a single style of music from which there isn't a song that i like.
I just wish people here were more tolerant of others' opinions and respected their choice.
Please understand you are entirely entitled to your own opinion and you are more than encouraged to express your positive or negative thoughts about this or that, but show some respect and tact when doing so.
I've had enough of seeing things like:
"I'd rather shit in my ear than listen to ___"
or
"Everytime i play this, my ears start bleeding"
or even
"People who listen to this really must be ___"
I hope y'all get my point.
Take it easy,
David

Like I always said, I never understood how the trance people who are suppose to be so open minded are actually the most narrow minded.
I guess we like to feel so superior in our way of thinking that eventually we shut ourselves out of anything different than us.           Majority is never right!

music is individual to each of us .
to be called small minded just beccause you love listening to spesific music jeners is wrong and not making any sense.
if something makes your "ears bleed" this is only a fraze, nothing more.
but it's true, not all people are "open minded" to all cinds of music , But it doesn't reflects us as human beings.
man this is only music, not way of thinking, not close to feeling supirior, I would call it determinde

I'm not that sure darkiller.. I've had rough discussions with some people (not especially here) bashing other musical styles not only about the music itself but also the whole "lifestyle" around.. So it goes beyond the simple 'musical taste' because these people are bashing others for their tastes, language, clothes, parties, and so on..

And this just disgusts me..           .

look, it's not about liking or not, it's about the way you say it.
Another point i made was about the fact that people who listen to psytrance, and that's my opinion, are supposed to be open minded, partly thanks to the music. And unfortunately, these people seem to be the most closed minded if u read these forums!
i find that really sad
PS: Im glad this thread is taken seriously because it's a real issue

I mean all the ppl that have hatred in them, its a quality inside their caricter, I don't think its about music though music is a big part of the whole "closed minded" topic,
in the trance scene it reflects in ppl whom for example, say that they hate clubers, but they act exactly like them only they try to prove a diffrent fashion, diffrent clothes and parties lifestile- , these ppl trand themselves, by arguing for aproval of their lifestyle insted of living their lives. and they are the cause of mainstreem in trance, by trying to percue everyone oraund them that HeHe trance....

In Germany we call these goa hippie purists who dont respect anyone who doesnt have dreads or who listens to music below 145 bpm "Shiva Nazis", I know its a harsh word, but still kinda funny.

But if you read old accounts of the 60s/70s hippies they also werent very tolerant, they didnt respect anyone who wasnt like them. I think its usually like that in subcultures that take pride in being different, it becomes tribalism where everyone outside that tribe is not cool, and these people tend to react pretty heavily to outsiders.

The problem is that these "tribes" think because they tolerate their own lifestyle that is so different from what is normal, they are tolerant towards everything else as well. If that was the case they would have to be tolerant towards normal people, who they despise, just think of what hippies thought of "squares", and they would have to be tolerant of other subcultures, who they despise even more.

So these subcultures, like our own psyscene, live an illusion of tolerance that they can only uphold cause they dont mix with others.           Check out my album: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/gay-satanic-hippie-tiefenrausch

This is where the problem begins. From here to "music I like less is bad" is only a small step away. I used to feel like you (for a long time), and then noticed how this attitude makes me look down on others.

All music requires a certain ear to listen to and to appreciate. I just don't get Arabian singing, other people say it's much better than any other kind. Does that make them more openminded than me? I sure hope not.          http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

aje - Wow... that's pretty much the perfect example. Thx for contributing
kaz - i do believe that listening to psytrance requires some kind of open mindedness, that i believe is absent in such other styles as hardcore/hardstyle. However that doesn't mean that it is better/worse. I think it's different, that's it.

I totally agree with Kaz, I do think there is no more or less open minded people listening to psy trance than any other form of music.
