I am very tempted to go off topic now and talk about the difference between creating your reality and being fooled by your own illusions...maya is very strong and you can't be doing your own reality this days unless you retire on the hymalayas and become a baba...it looks that in this scene as soon you do a bit of critics and disagree on the common consent you are labeled as a pessimist... and I am not a pessimist...if I was a pessimist I was not writing here and I would not continue my mission but I would be just content....and there is a big difference between being happy and being content...reaching satifaction and being slave of desires or being restless in the search of the graal....and we could go on with philosophy now...
but I stop it...I feel that that we all becoming really spoiled and lobotomized by this iLife iReality made of iPods and iTunes and iComputers in the magic iLand, it's time for a spiritual strong coffe to wake up from the dullness....
tnx Andrew...you always very kind with your compliments...my album is somehow on the way...and I am tempted to release it for free download on a torrent site...where is going to end up anyway....money isn't ugly...it's just a cold tool....respect !

One of the more interesting artists i have find this last year is LUCID PICNIC ,, from turkey making dark ambient/chill out/break/what ever.

Very deep/dark feelings , any one notice LUCID PICNIC ?

I hope the "chill out fans" go search the good music out of the main artists into "psy scene" (if you know what i mean )

peace

Mau...

re: it's time for a spiritual strong coffee to wake up from the dullness....

-- i can see a good song title in there...

sure you could give your album away for free, but why not just a few tracks / sounds ...? - i think it would be a good and honest energy exchange if you were able to survive for some time and further invest in the means of production in return for selling your album - either direct to people or to a label.

you may not be into the shallowness of the iLife and all its constituent parts.. and we may all talk down about the cheesy chill out comps... but those things can pay the bills...

i am very happy to sell our music on iTunes - and i get reminded of this when i get paid. Equally if someone wants to license a tune from our back catalogue then great... keeps my family and my business going... i could care less if it is a cheesy comp as long as they pay up.

ultimately all this stuff is mostly mediated - i.e. we are at several steps removed from the pure creative moment - i am typing at a screen instead of talking to you round a fire on a beach somewhere... so it is imperfect, and we are also mostly inconsistent and hypocritical...

but... the moment of aesthetic impact is still a pure thing... that's the moment when you hear a tune and can't stop listening to it... bathing in the sound... that's the sun behind the clouds...

everything else is secondary...

i just got a bill from my lawyer for some [mostly]useless work he did... 1400$ ... that is the crappy reality that I'd rather ignore... need quite a few cd sales to cover that over and above the everyday demands of running the label

that is exactly what happen to me recently...something changed...I started to see a repeating pattern...and got bored of it...there is so much to explore and create with the amazing tools we have nowadays that it is really a shame to fall in such a repetition...then I go back to listen masterpieces like The Irresistible Force 1998 album or Can albums of the 70" and I find out that even if they don't sound as good as latest productions they are still fresh revitalizing amazing music and I can't be bored of it...
and now sorry again for the off topic:

Dear Andrew...excuse me again if my impetuos comments souns like a criticism to you...I am not blaming you for selling your music on iTunes...I would be a pure idiot.
And I am not blaming you even if you relise martini comps to pay the bills (and I don't think Interchill did any martini comps yet...maybe it's time to start ?)...but then I think it's not only following a trend that you sell more music...sometimes also being radically innovative is opening the doors of "success"....but after usually yuor bills are increasing and you start to pay your lawyer 14000$ and need to sell more...more...MORE !!!
I am blaming the reality that iTunes and company is shaping...every 2 people in london wear an iPod and white headphones...and looking at their mobile tel in the meantime..mmm...something is not right with that...and I don't like the way iTunes is distributing the music...in a propetary way...and music again is just the medium that make sell more boxes, more computers, more iPods, from this HUGE income no one us, neither musician or labels are sharing a cent but we give them a creative content for their boxes for very cheap...they trying to put borders to what in reality is happening...and the amazing thing of this days I think is not that you can wear 60 gigas of music in your pocket and buy it with just one click from your desktop but that milions of people are sharing on internet music and otherstuff...in a way that never happened before...for free....so now I can just tap to this huge global consciousness and get and tune with what I am looking for without selling or buying...but sharing...and I think this is absolutely brilliant and goes over the boundaries that iTunes and the entertainment industry are desperatly trying to put...slowly we becoming tired of just selling and buying and we looking for other ways of having an exchange, YEAH!...I am very poor but I can still enjoy big music collections without feeling guilty...when I say that I am tempted to do my album for free download it's a surrealistic provocation because if I think how much money I get from one track and how long I worked on it...maybe is coming out few cents per hours of work...this without talking about the expenses for buyng technical stuff, I AM NOT BLAMING the label that can't afford more than that...but nobody would work for this kind of money...so better to do it for free and try to give a kick to the present situation and find other ways to survive (like I have to)...and because I have a big respect of the torrent and P2P sharing comunity.
OK...that's it...this is too long already...anyway again...big respect to you and to all of you who are getting good music out there...and being still up for spending time on forums and be in contact with the real thing.
by the way...yesterday I played at the Continuum launch party and it was a really good event...exellent live set of Gaudi/Testa...amazing visuals done by Planktom...and in the end I rocked the dancefloor with a very varied set with few tunes from Dissolving Clouds comp and Organismic (I really suggest you to keep them in mind)...bom

Mau...

i think your criticism of iTunes shaping our reality is valid... still - from what i can see of them they are quite progressive staffed by very talented and idealistic people.

walking around with an ipod on is not for me...

and there's no way i'm buying one for each of our kids either...

still... digital is overtaking phsyical...probably this decade... there is no upfront cost, no delivery charges, no duty at the border, no inventory to keep...and no returns either

when i ship a cd of ours to south africa or australia i'm often paying more in postage than the whole thing cost to make...

----

i used to argue against file sharing... but that is unrealistic... can't change people's habits by making appeals to principled arguments...

what you can do is to make sure your music is on sale so that people who want to download music can find your music easily...

that way the legitimate downloads outweigh or offset the non paying downloads / file sharing
---------------

the reason labels are focussed on the buy sell reality is that we extend our money in advances and upfront costs on the assumption that we'll make it back... it is not guaranteed

if i was making my own material then i would have something to trade with... as it stands, if i make a trade with your tune then you should see something comparable in return...

----

would have been lovely to be in london last night...
how did the liquid stranger tune go down ?

do you see more of a positive reception to varied sets... ? i enjoyed that at synergy ....

4/4 trance....yawn..

Andrew...let's find a beach where to do a fire and talk
iTunes ppl are for sure very talented, industry always use talented ppl...maybe they are idealistic, but they sort music in charts making music again a ranking system...blame on that...I find iTunes MS totally uninteresting, worst than any big chain HMV style...corporate shit...(why without upfront costs music is still so expensive to download...hey..now tnx to digital wonderland also recording budgets are reduced to 5% of 10 years ago but music is 200% more expensive ????)...they are not the only ones doing digital distribution... there ?s digital indipendent distribution too, maybe less effective...digital is good...for sure... when it means free distribution and not intoxication...
Remember that we are part of a "scene" that is claiming to be different from pop mainstream...
so much blame on the psy trance without remember that the most amazing thing is the alternative network that this scene created, mainly on a dancefloor under the sunshine (and you also use that network to promote and sell your music and share ideas...infact here we are on ISRATRANCE and not on iForum)...like a parallel universe where we are to imagine (if not create) different realities...revolutionary not in a politic way but mind blowing life changing exp.
you see...for you 4/4 is boring yaum....for me is still exinting, much more than martini on the beach...when I approach a party I always get exited as soon as I can ear in distance the doof doof 4 on 4...and even with all the critics about the psytrance nowadays...I love to sweat and vibrate with closed eyes in front of a massive speaker blasting demoniac 148 bpm tunes, and I still love to dj that kind of weird stuff for even 16 hours non stop...trance my friend...no bullshit...
and still Goa Gill does it to me more than OTT...I love and produce psychill downtempo music (how to call it?) but nothing can beat the experience of a tripping dancefloor melting togheter under the pressure of the decibels...when I forgot what tune is playing...when I actually don't even care who is going to be next dj...and I am too busy in shaking all my cells and bones to hold a drink...to be honest this days I miss that much more than good chillout...
I really enjoyed yesterday night, even if the sound of the chats sometimes was louder than music...
the tune I could play 3 times in a row from the cloudy comp is the Legion of green man one at the moment...need more downbeat acid stuff like that...

digital is overtaking on physical...no responsabilies...we are free to create...live the moment...make the most out of now (slogan of Vadafone)....mmmmmmmmm......still I am in a body and I am loving it....ciao

yes mau there are some fine beaches here... the pacific rim national park on the west coast of vancouver island does it for me...

no martini chill, 4/4 trance or any mediated sounds required...

for indie digital - hi quality audio i suggest ambient.us

i agree about the value and beauty of the idealistic side of the scene[s] that we belong to... but i don't think that psytrance can take exclusive credit for it.

often it is propagated by trusted networks - stimulated and connected in fora such as these...as well as in shared experiences

for me that is the real strength of the DIY culture - knowing that i can get a reliable answer about pretty much any question just by putting it out to friends and trusted networks...

and as for 16 hrs of 148 bpm... each to their own...
i'd rather float down a gently flowing river on a sunny summer day...

i must be a kind of antisocial sloth if that's my idea of a peak experience

still ... there you are

Legion of green men - they just bought a vintage emt plate reverb... weighs 400lbs and is the size of a fiat cinquecento

as for all the modern buzzword slogans... you can cut them up and fold them in william burroughs style and they still essentially say the same thing... they kind of modify the english language like that in japan... "freshness burger" was my fave

ciao

Tnx Andrew for your invitation to the canadian beaches...but at the moment I am going opposite direction...india and beaches of goa for a bit...where maybe (very difficult I know this days) I will have some fun at 148bpm...no judgments...anyone has his cup of tea...but if you never had a fullon psytrance experience or speaker teraphy...you defenetly miss something mate...it's never too late ;-)

Well Maux my brother, I didn’t say that you were a pessimist; I said being pessimistic wasn’t productive .

After reading your correspondence with AndrewChill, I must say that entirely agree with most of your posts:

The artists need a big fucking spiritual boost or a huge cup of Ayahuasca .

I want to hear music like Adham Shaikh, like his track Krishna raga for instance, spiritual psychedelic music, the kind of music where I can’t sit still on my way to the university in the morning, where people in the train are looking at me as if I was MAD or possessed, the kind of music that truly brings you into a state of trance, the kind of music where I start to see visions after a single joint, the kind of music where you want to pull off you hair because it sounds so fucking enchanting, the kind of music that makes the word beautiful seem like a grotesque understatement. That’s what I’m longing for!

I used to have an Ipod (and still have), but I stopped using it, I use my old CD player again. I don’t mind MP3-players, however, I feel that if you use an Ipod (which means that you bought an Ipod), you are part of the “problem” and not part of the “solution”. Why? You can’t even change the batteries of an Ipod, without having to pay immense expenses (you could afford to buy a new one) for instance. There are several MP3-players that our better and cheaper then an Ipod. If you buy an Ipod, you buy it because it’s a status-symbol (and that IMHO makes you part of the “problem”).

IMHO we as humans have reached a face, where people will gladly and cheerfully buy products based upon their “status” (prestige) amongst the populace. People will happily pay twice as much for an identical product, if the product that they buy is regarded as “status symbol”.

Materialism has brought the human species to a blind-ally. Actual values are melting away, true ideals are dissolving and real feelings are suppressed. We think that we can replace misery, with material possessions, yet we can’t. The more we buy, the emptier we feel.

Our whole society would dissolve if people stopped buying new-things. The foundation of our society is based upon creating artificial needs, so that the wheels of society can keep on spinning.

An example, people used to have one television per. household here in Denmark, now every household has at least one television per. Person, one DVD per. Person, one mobile phone per. Person and don’t worry, the marketers are already planning new useless stuff that every household will HAVE to have in the future.

Children down to the age of five have become consumers; they watch commercials on their favorite children’s channel and see the new “things”, that, they HAVE to have. Their parents buy them all “this” useless crap, that they apparently are “longing” after, because they have a guilty conscience, since both of the parents work long hour’s in-order to afford all the crap that they HAVE to buy. So the wheels of society keep on spinning and spinning.

We have fashions that don’t even last half a year. The “quickening” is upon us all and it can only mean one thing, we are nearing the END (2012).

I’m part of the psychedelic scene and not psy-trance scene or psy-chillout scene; they are in my book part of the psychedelic scene.

I find the scene so fucking ironical and paradoxical; the people that are constantly bitching about the quality of psy-trance, are the very same people who want psy-trance to be ONLY about the music. That’s the very reason that psy-trance is getting worse and worse. People have forgotten how this scene started, people have forgotten what it means to be in a state of trance and most of the artist have forgotten how to create music that can truly bring one into a state of trance. When you think about it it’s absurd, the word trance originates from Shamanism.

I totally agree with you, a good dancing session where one’s body starts to vibrate and one can’t stop dancing like a crazy shaman, is an amazing experience; however, I mostly experience that with twisted Rec. trance or tribal influenced chill-out. I’m not particularly fond of the dark-psy vibe.

Love and light my brother.

hmm..

I think Zoolog represents the style that might be the future of true psytrance - incredible twisted sounds being made in Denmark, Sweden, Greece, France, Russia, San Francisco... I'd love to hear some chillout that grows out of that kind of music..

          ..it's just another party..

@ Green Channell
I am glad to see that I am not the only one...I actually sold my iPod (only 5 giga) 2 years ago and I don't regret...
before saying that we create our own reality we should admit that we create a lot of rubbish...we actually BUY it...the word that best describe our time is decadence...and the music of our time is perfectly reflecting it...unevolving and self indulgent...ciao
