The mainstream sound of psy has changed alot during the recent years... Psychedelic Chill-out as i see it, is a "child" of goa-trance. My question is: Is it time for a new branch (genre) or will chill evolve in a similar direction as psy did?

i dont see psychedelic chillout as a child of goa trance but yeah they could be called relatives ...
and common chill out vs dark psy ??????? ....

the best part about chillout is that its not restricted to any genre .....so lets keep the genre division at bay

Hello Zoolog
Ambient music & chill out are from many years into dark also, check this topic http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/18567/forum/10

A few forms of "psy chill" are also "discovered" (i think) before dark trance, for exemple : Klaus Shulze play in the 70' whit arpegiator patterns & psy sound & dark atmospheres. The gothic/industrial ambient scene are also pretty close to "psy chill"

So.......

hmm...if i get wat ure sayin den i guess over the years psy has become more "psy" ...
but chilll comprises of much more than psy electronic pulses @ 140 bpm...n i dunno if uve noticed..but a few psy compilations this year have introduced chilll tracks n them
i tink an artist could evolve to get newer sounds n ideas but not the genre...chill is too vast a genre n includes a lot of variations!           Nothing is said that has not been said before.

I think psytrance is constricted by the dancefloor (the need to be able to seemlessly (ahem...) mix from one tune to another), and like any genre will become narrower and narrower until it mutates with other things and become something else... though pys trance is unusual due to the high "lifestyle" attraction...

Despite what previous threads may have you believe - chillout by definition doesnt need to be anywhere near as restricted- and lots more different stuff can be played and flow in and out of a DJ's set. New styles will come and go but (hopefuly) it'll never become as uniform as the main floor has become.. though the ever increasing amount of sub-shpongle type stuff may prove me wrong...

BTW I thought this thread would be about who would win ina goa party style death match between chill & dark psy.. so who would you put cash on in a full on wrestling match between Ott & Goa Gil?? who would be most killlaaaa?!

my money's on ott...

99% of psy/full on/whatever you want to call it is dull, repetitive, grating and predictable

psytrance is in a musical dead end - it does not borrow enough from other musical forms in order to evolve... it is the musical equivalent of a remote village where the gene pool is getting progressively weaker because of inbreeding

and anything that sets out to be overtly psy often just succeeds in disappearing up its own arse

the real meaning of psychedelic is unpredictable...

ahhh but gil has the staying power - Ott get ready to last 500 rounds with the old sadhu. But all jokes aside I completely agree with andrew - psy is getting very boring - copy and paste stuff - there are still people out there making good stuff - but the majority of it is dull. At the same time - The karunesh sample has also been way tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo used in chill out tracks (is'nt that a little repetative too???)

yes man,,, but : we have more choice of styles into "chill" sets ,, i never listen a dj (trance) playing a track dark goo to a more happy stuff & finish the sets whit prog,, )for exemple), usual ,when you make this, your dancefloor scream : NO GOOD!!!!!

im happy to make/mix "chill" , & also lucky , im able to mix all the "styles" into a set,,

the definition of "chill" is as broad as you want it to be. now, can someone define "dance" music while we're at it....
