Why the hell are demo sets important OR EVEN BEING USED ?!?!

When I sit at home infront of my cdjs (or even Tracktor or even Cubase)
with:
no crowd
no noize
no distractions
no air, no rain
no alcohol/thc in my blood
no huge subwoofers
no crazy dancers -

You tell me - CAN I MIX THE SAME ?!?!?!

I can send you a list of my favorite tracks as well... cant I ???

SO, why everyone keeps asking me for a demo set when I am more then willing to come whenever they want just to mix infront of them... early befor the DJ came/late when he left, hell, I will even come when theres no party... but damn, to listen to something I made at home - alone... why bother???

I guess that close to no organizers have the time to listen to you mixing live before or after a party - there is plenty of other stuff to take care of at the venue, rather than listening to new DJ's. I also seriously doubt many organizers are willing to invite DJ's they've never even met back to their own home…

The best way to get booked for a party is if the organizer hears you playing at a party. If that's not an option, a demo-set is the best second best, as he/she/they can listen to it whenever they want, wherever they want. That being said, many organizers don't even listen to half the sets they are sent or even reply - so if you want to get some gigs, record a set and give it to the organizers who actually encouraged you to record one for them.

Quite frankly I don't get what you're complaining about.          DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

...record a set while you play it at a show then. Not difficult at all if you have a little bit of access.

Demos are necessary in all genres of music and permission to perform publicly. Deal with it. Sorry to be so blunt but the sooner you make that demo the sooner you'll see results from it.

I have to tell you guys, it is not easy to play in a party when no one knows you, no one heard you, and they don't listen to the demo you gave them...

But thats not the point isn't it...?           www.myspace.com/42aviv

Why are you in such a hurry? You want to take this as a profession and earn a living out of it? You want to become popular in a day? eh.. Is that so easy?

in answer to your question, yes, you should be able to mix the same at a party as you can at home.

I'm organiser and dj

I can tell you I receibve almost 200 request to play from dj's and 100 from live acts for the biggest party I organise...
If I don't know nothing from the artist and I never heard him I don't give a shit about him... because I have plenty of people to choose between, friends, people who want to make exchange ( like inviting me playing in other partys exchange playing in mine, I do just if they are very good djs)...
But what I can tell you, is I think I never invited somebody playing because he sent me a message or an email of selfpromotion...NEVER you invite somebody because of the quality of the musicc he propose, or the mood or the mixing skills, or all that together, or a live act, maybe is a new one you know and want to promote him because you trust him or is a good one who you see fitting in perfect way in your party...

But I can tell you, if you don't organise party yourself, so you don't start play at least there and make your name more known and also maybe do some exchange, if you don't have many contacts, if you are not more then skilled and has got a superb mood and taste in music... don't try to become a well known dj.... make it as an hobby...

...or if they are friends of yours or will book you to play at their parties. Nepotism is a good way to make a bit of money but not a good way to make sure you have the best music you can IMO.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

+1 Colin OOOD

could this explain why that I have stopped going to psy parties here in London as I am tired of listening to poor quality DJs.

Don't get me wrong this is a problem with every genre. I was just hoping Psy would be different.           http://www.whatacunt.co.uk/

Getting bookings is not a question of how good your music is or how good you are as a DJ. I know some Dj's that seriously kick ass and have mixed for more then 15years and still they don't have any bookings.

And i know a lot of artists that make the most common un-original, stereo-typed music with production that is very poor, and they get booking after booking after booking....

So what I'm basically saying is that unfortunately it's only a question of knowing how to sell yourself and how sociable your are. Sure their are some promoters that make their artist selection based on the quality of their music. But it's very very fucking rare...           On 2011-03-08 23:13, moki wrote:
