I think it's more of a cultural difference then a musical.
most trancers are hard core hippies, while house clubbers are mostly sucsessfull yuppies.

I agree with the doctor. I think the difference is more cultural. It is interesting to see how in different countries, the distribution of the people between music styles is different. Social group that preffers (mostly) trance in one country, preffers something else (electro for example) in another. mmm.. cannot explain that

Some Facts first !
1) There are many many people that like house and trance music in this world !

2) There are many people in the world that like trance and many other different music styles!

3) There are people who listen only trance music !

4) There are people who hate trance !

5) Everything has to do with taste and mood!

Personaly i believe ... no House music/culture cannot co-exist with trance music/culture!

Its like saying Undeground Hip Hop can Co-exist with R&B and Soul music....

Anyway , House doesnt do it for me ...

IMO , House and Trance share one common attribute : Electronic Music in 4/4 beat with people dancing, having good time and freedom ! !!!

but in the bottom line i think u should listen to the music names like trance, techno, house r just names, the music is what counts.

now that i like
we don't make the names for the genres, but often have them forced upon us.

i think what borris said and lostbraincell commented on is also true and interesting, sometimes i suspect people come up with these names and genre divisions as a way of reinforcing their own identification as a particular tribe...(whether yuppies or hardcore hippies )

when i am sying depper music i mean thet in trance there are more sounds then in house and its very serous music. i just can go crazy when i listen to psy or progressive because it's on another level of music. not like house. house is more like sexy music, more melodic. i dont wont my music tobe to much melodic i just wont somthing thet i can hear 10 times in a week and not get tierd of it.

chaos... thanks for clarification
i know what your saying, and i more or less feel the same. especially about not getting tired of trance. all i was trying to say, and it wasn't really specific to what you'd posted, was i think its a mistake to think that we are better than others just cause of our taste in music... nah, there are other better reasons for that           >>love will tear us apart...<<

chaos, its all about private taste, IMHO
trance is not deep at all and much more melodic than house.

I agree with the "differents forms for the same purpose" opinion back there.
To live... Music and life. Life and music. Music for life, living by music.

No matter in wich form, every single soul is searching for mood tunes on music.
So lets keep on folks!

i listen to both, although i would certainly say that trance is what really moves me. different music for different moods...

it seems to me that there are many shades of trance, and many shades of house as well. there is a lot of house music that i don't especially care for (never had much of an ear for chicago, vocal, garage, or hard house et al...), but there is some other stuff that i really like such as a bit of tech-house, some jazzy funky san fran stuff (dubtribe is one of the best live acts ever!), some deep-dark-tribal stuff (the likes of teneglia, sasha/diggers, carl cox), 2step garage and a bit of florida progressive to boot.

on the other side of the coin it seems as though there is a LOT of crap trance out there, and it's almost as though that '1000-wasps-in-a-tin-can' cheese-trance sound will never go away. i've also tried to listen to uk hardhouse & nuNRG, but it just sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. oh, and anything with a lot of vocals is a one-way ticket to my shit_list... what a fantastic way to ruin a song.

acid house will never die!

and i still just can's listen to those genres, I have 2500 songs on my comp and many various genres but my ears are very fragile and gentle, so they cannot bare the sounds of house, dance and trance (except got psy).

np: 10 years after - I'm going home (live at woodstock)

Personally, I think progressive house music (even though it isn't exactly my cup of tea) has a lot to teach the trance artists about progression in the music and production values. These guys are true proffesionals, and before you label it as mindless grooving, put some thought into the music - and see that it's not mindless at all (when done right). Just like Plastikman's first album opened the techno genre for me, I believe that everyone (if he looks hard enough) will find at least one artist to his liking in each musical style.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Gee, I've created a monster!!!

When I opened this thread I didn't think it will go into the 3rd page (and counting...)

Anyway, what I did find out from your replies, my dear dudes and dudets, is that most of you like trance music but don't like house music. Only a few listen to both. Once again, I'm part of the minority.
