I know the subject is allready well discussed, but it would be nice to hear more artists on this subject. That label managers is crying about the situation is what you maybe would expect.
Reading many of the comments here is quite strange when you look back on the history of this scene. I can't help to make a few more points:
1. How can the scene die from copying when it was bourn out of it? In the early 90's it was expensive to make trance, and yet people invested in hardware to make some tracks to give a copy to a DJ in hope of getting played at a party. Is that spirit totally dead?
2. Artist who see money as their motivation for making psychedelic trance probably might as well quit and do something else for a living. Advertising, tv or house music is much better for generating income. Most producers I know that have been actually making a living of their trance has gone on to do house music. It's commercial, it's cheesy and it gives you an income. I got the same income in 8hrs doing jingles for a low budget tv production company as in 8yrs of trying to release trance.
3. To say you have to support the labels and artists by buying CD's is a bit strange when it's about 15% of what you spend that the artist AND label have to share. The only reason anyone can have to buy a CD is sound quality and packaging/artwork, if you want to support just contact the label or artist you like and donate a couple of €/$.
4. That the production and distribution of CD's would be doing much to promote variety and creativity in trance I belive is a lie.
The lables tell's artist that they will not be interested in tracks that been spread, so the artists keep the tracks in hope of selling a few. Eventually the label manager decide to squeeze in one or two tracks on a comp. If the track is to different or not so listening friendly it will not fit in.
It's an endless amount of tracks that never been experienced by people that way.
4. If every CD in DJ's case should be verified as a legal copy, take care to read what the lablel printed about legalities on it. Most of them will say "unauthorized public performance..." etc, which means that the DJ is not legally allowed to perform the CD without either a permission from the copyright holder or an assurance that the venue is paying their music performance fees.
For those of you who think that it would be great if the venues actually paid these fees, and some beloved cash would come in the way of the artists.....sorry that kind of royalty fees is distributed on the basis of how much radioplay you had....meaning britney will be cashing in on every BOTFB track played.
5. Dodgy promoters and label managers there is many, they actually rip artist off. Someone downloading/copying someones work does not. Not more than the britney fan listening to the radio anyway.
6. 95% of the artist use 95% cracked software, so until they respects the legalities of copyright themself they have to accept if their fans don't.
Can't we all enjoy the new possiblities of technology instead. With so many people able to make music, and so great means of distributing it globally it's sad to see all this bickering about petty cash. |

most of the times, the copy loses quality but it's almost unnoticable by most ears (but it's wrong to say that it doesn't lose any quality at all). now, if you make it to mp3 first, then the quality loss is even bigger.
if you can't avoid the mp3 process, use a good encoder (such as winLAME) and encode @ 320Kbps. some people made tests that prove that even highest quality VBR (variable bit-rate) is still worse than 320 constant bit-rate.
i would avoid mp3 at all times if quality was a major issue though!

Nothing compares to a nice original cd for many reasons including ofcourse quality.
The second thing accepted after an original cd can be a copy cd directly from the original.
Mp3's of any quality and anything else is just unaccepted.

I'm buying but from past years only.
2005 is a bad, unpsychedelic, uninnovative year.
All releases have the same sound.
If you want i buy you have to INNOVATE. |

When the prices will be good for me so I will buy more original cds.
For example , I bought the 2 relases by Chamical-Crew ( Zoo3 & Void album ) and I will keep to buy it on this prices.
If Chemical Crew can do it so why other labels cant do it ?!
On Zoo 3 Chemical Crew sold 400 copies in Isreal !!! maybe they did not make a lot of money from this release , but they make big step on this problem.
Anyway , this is what I think...kepp it up Chemical Crew

| chemical crew thats like the pepsi corp of psytrance support labels like truffel recs or red cells chemical crew " boo hiss bah" |
