I'm not going to lie I download alot. However, I do this to find out about what is worth buying. I have a CD collection and a growing one at that. I think when you have the full artwork in thje jewel case it seems more special somehow. You get the full package of what the artist is trying to present. You might ask why download if there are samples on different sites. Well for two reasons. It usually takes me a few listens until it really sets in for most CDs and I feel samples are not adaquate for the because you cant hear the full song plus Im too busy with school and work to sit at my computer and listen to samples. The second reason is because I like so many different genres of music its hard to keep up with all the current stuff and find all the old good stuff without downloading and putting it in my car which seems like the only time i get to review CDs.

Well, I usually download the cd first, or if a friend got it, I listen to it.. If I like the cd, ofcourse I would buy it, for example, The Misted Muppet - From The Legend, first I download it, to see if its realy worth the money, and then I went and got it! Ofcourse its not the only one, there are alot more.. But on todays prices, We'r talking about almost a 100 NIS for an album, and thats alot! Even Pink Floyd and Metallica cds are chipper (depends on the album), so it doesnt justify the price.. If I like it though, ofcourse I buy it! I respect the artists, but I cant afford to buy 20 albums a month! I work hard for my money, so I play what I think its fair..

The fun part about buying original albums, is that you get the satisfaction, and you realy feel you contribute to the artist, unlike other people.. But hey, Im trying to do my best, 3-4 albums per month is enough for me, and even if it wasnt, I cant afford more..

So advantually I would say BUY atleast 1 album a month of the music you like, help the artists to keep making the music you like to listen to!

I am not sure how I stand on this but I do like the dilema, in some ways I htinkit is good that we are heading towards a society where music is traded freely amoungst us and I can see music becoming more honest if it wasn't a tradable comodity. Would it really stick one up the major labels if artists just started distributing their creations for free. THough this isn't happening great costs are going into puttingout albums and people are avoiding payying for them which I am sure is wrong.

A question to the people with record labels, why is it so hard to get psy from a normal record shop, I went into our local one and just to try it out showed them the add in the magazine with all the contact details and asked them if they could get it in for me and they couldn't. Why is it?

Maybe the artists should be suplementing their incomes by doing movies and comercials and video games. I am sure you are already. Any way I like to buy as I can't deal with all the crap trying to get it for free, someone showed me how to do it and it seemed like a lot of hassle for something. I would like to be able to go into a store and buy a cd or a record instead of doing it all over the net. Do shops with you have psy available? Cheers hope you can answer some questions?

ok but the problem is that the artists loose interest if they are not able to survive on ther passion.
In a wider way, a young artist will not choose music, cause he knows it is not worth the effort.
A writer is not comercially sucessfull if he dosen't sell books.
In a intelectual point of view it doesent matter, but he has to live with some confort, to be free to creat more, right?
That 's how it works , and is not working in this particular business, wich causes product quality to decline and artist to leave the scene, i know of many.

If Mozart or Beethoven did this, they would have died bums, and even would had no money to buy a piano to play with.
Believe me a mozart lve-act was not cheap those days.

beacause there are 4 steps in the ladder.

artist ... label... distributor... consumer

THere are zilion record shops around the world.
Trance labels only release about 2.000 copies, of an artist.
So distributors have to put the records in the most wise way across the globe.
But if you contact the label, they will tell you were to buy.
I live in Portugal and we have 2 shops in Lisbon who sell and receive trance regularly.

cheers

Yup thats why i dont listen to trance anymore, haven't found anything intresting since 2001, like the music has died out in some sort.

It's fun to read isratrance though, always the same ppl try to defend themself as why they download...

But hey!!! the world is as it is and i don't think there is anyway to stop music trading, ppl are just going to have to get used to find less and less music that is really worked and from the heart and get used, that tracks are finished to be able to make the deadline to the next killaaahhh v/a by the latest killlaaahh label.

I think most artists are aspiring to do more than survive, maybe becoming abiut more melodramatic, I am not sure where I stand on this and as it is all out of my control it is a bit futile to take a stand, to discuss and to work with what is happening. Now you mention passion, many great artists have pursued art though a life time fueled by not much more than passion, to compare electronic artists to Beathhoven ect is maybe a bit different, the couldn't secure record deals and are a geniusies. I guess I will find no body capable of considering the other side to this debate as they are not redealy participating in the internet experience. It seems by the response to this topic I admit I've only skimmed over a couple of pages but it seems quite unanimous that you don't support music theft. Who is doing it then? Maybe its a case of their being too many artists for to small a market. Oh well sorry for being arguementive it's just me at the moment.

You like the album/compilation you downloaded/burnt from friend?
Buy it.
Buy 1 cd a month.
1 cd a year.
But buy it.
Don't make a habbit of getting things that you love for free. Make the artists that made you happy a gesture by buying their albums in the legitimate way.
Support the scene.
Please.

I bought 20 albums in august (old goodies) ..And I bought a 20GB iPod .. I love original albums, and I had 50% of the albums I bought on mp3 from before.. So, am I a good boy Pavel? lol

what about those mp3 ripping groups who put up mp3s on the dl sites? who does these things?????

everyone should put music online on itunes.. just getting shpongle 3 from there so much easier...

my friend asks if he can just put some money in an envelope and send it to the artists he likes heehe but poor labels and distributors will get left out

I buy plenty of originals... if I like it, I track it down - it's that simple.

How do I know if I like it before I hear it though?

It's a good thing trance is so readily available on the internet.
