You like the album/compilation you downloaded/burnt from friend?
Buy it.
Buy 1 cd a month.
1 cd a year.
But buy it.
Don't make a habbit of getting things that you love for free. Make the artists that made you happy a gesture by buying their albums in the legitimate way.
Support the scene.
Please.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

When the prices will be good for me so I will buy more original cds.
For example , I bought the 2 relases by Chamical-Crew ( Zoo3 & Void album ) and I will keep to buy it on this prices.
If Chemical Crew can do it so why other labels cant do it ?!
On Zoo 3 Chemical Crew sold 400 copies in Isreal !!! maybe they did not make a lot of money from this release , but they make big step on this problem.
Anyway , this is what I think...kepp it up Chemical Crew

400 copies are nothing but a spoonfull of water in the sea. But they may represent some 2.000 US dollars inside the artist's pockets, and there is a plenty of nice synths, editing software, plugins, sound interfaces which may be bought with that money.

I'd go further down the line. Since LARGE party organizers are the ones who profit the most out of the music. They could & should help a little bit more, say, by demanding that djs who play at their parties do it only with legitimate CDS.

(As a side benefit, this could crush the unreleased trade market).

Allright, let's say the label rips him off, 2 dollars per copy of the WHOLE cd. Still, it makes him 800 USD, which buys him a Motu board.

Doesn't matter how much anyways: The idea is not to make accounts over everybody's else pockets, but not to rip his pockets off.

I think it'spretty obviouse that int his scene there is very little money to be made from records sales... it's sad but true, even before priacy. There are afew who do survive on this, Astral Projection and Infected come to mind, but most of the money that our artists make come from gigs. I think it is more important that the worl wide scene takes and organised initative to make sure all dj's and artits get paid a reasonable amount for the time they give to make the party happen. It happens in every other scene, so why not the psy scene? Promoters who do not run party;s proffessionally shouldbe named ona public forum so that they will have to take responsibility for their actions. This scene is very amateur in the way itis run, and there are only a few crews o pu ton proffessional party's, and look how great they are... you actually canmake a career out of it if you want to!

"this post aint gonna make any difference to people who download music....... " Very true. As for me. I already buy cd's. Always have. It's a mind set I think. There will always be large number of people who just download because they can. Nothing anyone says will change their behavior.

yeah I've always bought cd's... so far have spent around $6,000 Aussie dollars on psytrance Nothing like like sitting back, tunes playing and seeing all the cd's lined up in the big stackers, brings such a smile to my face, especially the ones that are hard to fins and I hunted down

Reality check : burning/ downloading will kill this scene ultimately. I have been a label manager for 8 years now ... when we started 8 years ago and nobody knew us, we could easily sell 6000 cds of a release. 8 years later, our label is known across the globe and we are lucky if we sell 1000 copies. It takes almost 1000 sales to even cover the costs of mastering / producing / advertising the cd, so we are not making any profits. More and more people are listening to trance and fewer and fewer paying for it. If the labels dont get paid, the artists dont get paid. If the artists dont get paid, whats their motivation to keep making music ? I know of many artists and labels who have stopped for this reason, which is sad and ultimately means less choice of music for the listener. Many times I have played abroad and someone has shown me a case full of illegal copies of our releases saying "I love your releases, I have every one !!" They really see this as a compliment for me and wonder why i get offended. Its like telling the baker that he makes the best bread in the world and then stealing 6 loaves while he is watching

The record industry is a lot to blame for keeping cd prices so high all these years, but thats no excuse. Our last hope is paid digital downloads via iTunes etc ... if that doesnt work then I will be quitting the business and getting a day job too soon !!

(/end rant)

I don't think it helps that the possible number of buyers for this kind of music is small to start with. And, people who listen to this kind of music are net savy. They know where to go to get it online. Mind you, what kid doesn't these days.

I don't mean to be harsh at all, but I think the internet and downloading are just a new challenge to the industry as a whole. It's like any other industry. Like life. Survival of the fittest. Those labels/companys that can best set their records/cd's apart and capture a decent share of the remaining buying listening public will survive. The rest will go under.

In the end, less music will be released perhaps, but do we really need more releases per time period?

the shutiing down of these sites is possible...like audiogalaxy....why dont the labels get togehter and sort it out..maybe trading could reduce if not get eliminated           At the end there is a DOOR & waiting for you on the other side of that door is either HEAVEN or HELL

I buy way too many cd's so my wife tells me but amongst my fiends im in the minority. Not sure what the answer is, but i know i would much rather be looking at an original cd than a shitty burnt copy. I just hope the few that do buy can continue to support all those who don't.

Not sure if there is an answer though.
