This is probably a stupid question, but how do you see the BPM (beats per minute right?) of a track? I mean, if it's not written in the cd, can you tell the BPM of a track just by listening to it? How?

Its not a stupid question, there're few softwares which may count bpm exact enough for most of the tracks.. try "BPM studio" or Traktor really

but what for do you need to know BPM?
like.. if you see the number that you dislike, you wont hear the tracks? or you making music too and you are looking for a correct rythm

BrainStorm ... We need to know the Bpm's of the tracks to make the mixing easier... if u know that u have a track in 145.4 and another one in 147.6 it's more easy to mix knowing the Bpm's ... u just do like the most of the "Dj's" ... let the muzik end and start another one!
Traktor and Bpm Studio are good softwares to use to calculate the Bpm's ... but at this time we can find CDj's capable of doing that!
I think that the Bpm's sincronization is the first thing that a good Dj must do well! ... unfortunatelly I don't do it well... but i will, practice make perfection!           http://minimaland.blogspot.com

if u want to mix "regular" u dont need to know the bpm, when the track is over u put the other one (fade in/out)
but if u proffesional u must know the bpm if u wanna put 2 kicks from different trax 2gether...

so if i take from all these djs the papers with the munbers they wont mix well?... so imho its not a dj.

and what djs did b4 all the BPM programs came out?... what they did with all the TT with only a peach button... without the BPM counter?

its all about the skills, not the BPM

sure, its easy to mix with numbers infront of ya, but imo it takes out all the fun from the mixnig.

and u CAN make a perfect beat maching without knowing the exacet BPM.
u just gotta find the rigth "spot"... and this is a little from what we call "skills".

if you want to be rich, u`ve got to be a bitch!

I don't know the bpm of any of the tracks I play....its much easier to beatmatch by ear....why have to worry about more numbers than you have to when mixing? its all about fine tuning mixes...not just playing a 142bpm track with another 142 track...bpm is a crutch that you dont really need.
