Imagine you were an overseas festival organizer, you are planning a beautiful outdoor festival with multiple dance areas / stages. One of the stages you would like to be a Japanese stage. What crew / DJs would you invite to produce the stage? The Djs must be able to attract travelers from Japan to the festival to make it worthwile. I'd like crews and DJs that can really represent the magic of the Japanese Trance scene.

No ...
Solstice - already tried (respect 2 them)
Vision Quest - mostly Israelly DJs (respect 2 them)
Taiko Drumming Groups - drums r too expensive (big respect 2 them)           The music was like new black polished chrome
that came over the sky like liquid night.

What about

the Kinokosmo or
Blue Moon or
Anoyo crews all them throw
amazing parties.

Plus
Kuro, he represents the Japanese style. I think, swinging tunes, hard drums and always trancy.

Thanx goa-ganges,

Yes Anoyo, haven't been to their parties recently.
Lunatic Thunder, what are they like?
I'm going to a party tonight to check out Omb, I think he's one of the members.

Maybe a selection of top Japanese Acts might be better than just bringing a whole crew to do a party, however, this might be a bit hard to co-ordinate. Some Japanese DJs and acts people have recommended to me:

DJs & Live Acts
Phi (Elf?)
Uni
Masa (Space Gathering)
Ree.k (Space Gathering)
DJ Sal (Stargate)
Ryo (Solstice)

VJs & Decor
MM Delight ??
X-Ray

What do you guys think? Anyone else that should be added to the list?           The music was like new black polished chrome
that came over the sky like liquid night.

I would only that you do not put on this list any of the artists in the "Japanese Trance - 10 years after".
Strange trance, sounds like what you hear at these big festivals you mentioned above (respect 2 them).

Peace and Love.

A crew that would call the attention of the Japanese crowd? thats almost impossible.
As the Japanese crowd sadly has almost no intrest in Japanese artists or dj`s.

Anyways the best organization to represent Japan, I would have to say Anoyo. As@they are one of the oldest and biggest, Japanese only crew.

The best DJ to represent

The one and only DJ SO

Thanx everyone for your comments.
I do live in Japan and should know but I haven't been going out much lately and I was hoping someone would surprise me and introduce me to some new Japanese Artists.

You're right mad factory, I like psy music.
This post came about because I have a connexion with a festival and they want to become more "international", they asked me to suggest Japanese Crews and/or DJs to produce a stage at their party.

I read Vision are going to Brazil, other festivals like Boom and Outback Eclipse have many Japanese travelers. Outback Eclipse got over 500 Japanese travelers. I think it would be interesting to promote Japanese Artists overseas so let me know what you think.

Bom!           The music was like new black polished chrome
that came over the sky like liquid night.

have you guys heard of a style of traditional japanese dance called YOSAKOI? It is very energetic, creative, and has AMAZING accompanying music that is psychedelic in nature and contains similar elements to electronic music.

not trance, but would surely be danceable and would blow the minds of anyone who saw it, me included. Something new and interesting, representing not only Japanese music but the culture as well.

My two bits, everyone have a nice holidaze.

I am still amazed at the unknowledgment some people have over psychedelic trance. Most psy-trancers think it was born out of nothing, and not even know it is merely the development of 1980 Chicago's acid house scene, also 1980 Detroit's techno scene and 1980 again London's electronic scene mixed altogether. Just making it clear, psy came from Goa which came from epic trance, which before coming to be called 'epic trance' was called progressive house. And some 2004 house tracks have a lot of psychedelism, so there's no reason to say that progressive house is so different from psy that it can't be played in a psy party. I personally think I'd rather listen to a very shaky progressive house artist than a full-on one.

BTW, I was just listening "Theme from S'xpress", from S'xpress band. A 1980's progressive classic. Listen to it and you will see how much psy is attached to house.

Peace and Love.

Hey Dance & Smile,
I agree with you about Batta doing the last set. Those epic sets he does that totally mash your brains and leave a huge smile on your face are definitely a great way to end a party. As for the other DJs... DJ cunt, ummm interesting name.

Thanx 4 the headz up goa-ganges, I didn't know that psy came from house. I still prefer psy, those goa / psy melodies screw my mind in the most beautiful ways. There's nothing better for me than intelligent full-on sound!

How's this for a Japanese Line-up to keep you dancing till you hurt yourself then some more!

21:00 - 21:30 Yosakoi Dance
21:30 - 23:00 Masa
23:00 - 00:30 Ree k
00:30 - 01:30 Shed
01:30 - 03:00 Kemix
03:00 - 04:00 Phi
04:00 - 05:30 Tsuyoshi
05:30 - 07:00 Ryo
07:00 - 11:00 Batta
11:00 - 12:00 All star DJ battle

Somebody is going to have to take the japanese scene out to the world again. Right now its the Israeli Trance scene thats movin the music. When i started to listen to trance, it was right after japan was at the top, then came england, then to israel, then france, then it split to a lot of countries(russia, australia, greece, italy) then its gone back to Israel again.
So its about time we find some nice japanese crew to lead the way like Matsuri used to.
Theres a lot of crews out here in japan, but they mostly use international artists(including my crew G-echoes). So the only real Japanese crew with artists is Anoyo I think.

Well Mad Factory, I thought he was just saying Psychedelic as a big ol Genre, including the proggresive scene and all. You are right there are a lot of good DJ`s, but to me nothing beats SO. His skills are probably the best in this scene(including all international dj`s and artists). Just my opnion though.

Nice line-up Ken. My opinion is that the Japanese trance is more melodic and subtle the Israeli style, with a strong, swinging kick. So there's no point in taking abroad Japanese artists that are doing sounds that other countries are doing . I like full-on, but as you said, with some@intelligence on it.
And my commentary on House was not directed at you, but at Mad Factory. Pure psy doesn't exist, that's what I meant.

Anoyo has the best artistic vision regarding visuals, but to me they have little musical vision. It's just the same group of art school friends from years and years ago who are playing together. There's a reason you don't see them play anywhere else...

For international dj's, I agree with Hikari. Dj So is the only one I would buy a plane ticket for. In fact, he recently played two parties in Germany with Infusion, Shiva Chandra, and others, and is playing at the Rainbow Serpent festival in Australia this month.

In addition, Maru-de and Shingo played a monster set at the Eclipse party in Australia two years ago and had the floor going mental. They certainly won a lot of fans there and have an australian fan base.

However the general idea of doing a "Japanese" floor sound exceedingly absurd to me and would not make any more Japanese travel around the world. They can see these artists here, why go elsewhere?! More importantly, it sounds like a cheap, stupid gimmick to me, something trance parties should avoid.
