tsabeat, i'm tired of replies like this. really.
THIS IS A TUTORIAL FOR BASIC BASSLINES JUST TO GET PEOPLE INTO IT. THATS IT. I'M NOT TELLING THEM THIS IS HOW TO MAKE A FUCKING BASSLINE.
Besides, it's not like you never used 3 1/16's basslines.

Also, is avoiding popular techniques some badge of legitimacy? If something is popular, it is because it makes a large number of people feel good. Don't overthink it, noone ever won an award for being the "most cynical obscurist."

Nobody dumps the gatorade on the "I could do that if I wanted, but it's stupid" people. They just wait for them to leave the room, and shake their heads, and go back to having fun.

Identity is inescapable, you will forge one whether you want to or not. Don't build yours out of self-destructive negativity. Take it from someone not in an ivory tower, but someone who has been there, and seen the hell it brings.

well mike , id say nice work , thoughtful initiative and good execution ...

many ppl i see here claim to know lots and make pro music , but i feel they suck .... so if some users taking pains and sparing time to help others , y not feel good about it and appreciate the effort ?

what all mike has written / shown in the tutorial , will only help ppl make standard basslines and kicks for sure , without a doubt ....

but if ppl after learnning this , still cant make groovy music , then its not mike , but they who suck !

thnx a lot for investing your time in writing tutorials, i think it really can help people in getting further with making music.. here in amsterdam i started a workshop music creation, where i invited like 25 producers and everyone who wants can tell a bit about a certain aspect of cubase, ableton, eq-ing etc. the first one was really a success, thinking of what to do on the next one now...

have one question regarding the tutorial though, when i want to apply the kickducking, i cannot activate the key input on the comp/de-esser on the bass channel...

pls let me know what going wrong there, and keep up the nice work on writing manuals!

If anyone wants any further information on basslines, or just wants another perspective on their creation, there is a very good thread running at the moment on PsyForum:

zebra-n - did you activate the sidechainer on the kick drum first?
I think that some versions of the TC Works bundle have a big where you can't do it.. Not sure though.

he mike, thnx 4 getting back on it so quickly, it looks like its active, but no button or whatsoever, anyhow, dont worry bout it too much, still have the waves comp sc and the db audioware option, just curious how well this sidechain would work, for the moment i choose for the waves sc, it's a bit harder to set up, but you can influence the sound a bit better imho ...

Tau Pro in my opinion is a very lame bass synthesizer, it is totally not stable with it's sound and either it's a 'Toy Bass' in comparison to real bass ( that is my opinion ofcourse )

Basically I am rather against 'RULES' in making of anything, all it makes in the end is very narrow minded ppl making the same music every one.

Yeah I do believe that learning how to make music and sound takes time and there is a point in it. While it takes time, one digs deeper and learns a lot about sound making. This way of learning, not only is not very correct, but also is more for monkeys than for humans ( since we have the ability to learn and they have the ability to imitate )

Hope no one was insulted from this, since it wasn't the point.

The point was - PPL EXPERIMENT!!! try to do different shit and in the end u will have YOUR OWN SOUND.           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

Hello

Actually, i disagree with,... well... almost all of you here

I don't think theres any rules in making music, in making kick, in making bass, and in making all kind of waveform whatever it looks like.
mostly in full-on rolling bassline.

actually i really dislike all this "how to make music TUTORIAL", or "how to make Full-On" (fits to Israelies ), i think it just makes everybody to write the same music again and again and the creativity of all who uses this tutorials somewhere around zero and.... well... never mind

I dont think side-chainning is usefull unless you need it.
in this situation it will be much easier to put a compressor/limiter on the group of the kick & bass, or just cut the last waveform of the kick or do whatever and theres a hundred ways to do so, you dont need any "tutorial" for this because every specific sound may have a little filter change, a little envelope change, etc.. and need a different treat. unless you publish in the tutorial what preset and what EQ and so on and so on...

now just go and make your own music

have a nice day

Well...

After reading all those replies, all i can just do is sit here and have a good laugh out of it.

Sadly, I agree there with Yuli. Mike's so-called 'tutorial' shows how narrow minded people really are in full-on scene.

I can only emphasize the fact that people with 'rules' in their music creation end up like Infected Mushroom, Artists that cant change their way of working and because of that, the result of all that sounds the same in all their tracks.
(With all do respect, the sound production is well done, but the music creation sounds the same over and over).

I think we all should experience music production by our own and everybody should reach his own way of creating music according to his musical taste. Mike's thread is somewhat a nice start to realize how stupid traditional fullon music can be sometimes

For me, the absolutly amazing professional musicians that make bass sounds are Ott and Simon Posford ( I adore you guys! ) and the basslines they make are always different than each other. Simply a joy to my ears.

- No hard feelings Mike_A I know you just feel like helping there, but i see it pointless.

Cheers,           "..How would you know that things were good, unless there's something that wasn't good at all.."
