Dude, you gave them THE F*CKING SEQUENCE. Why not pick the exact sound for them while you're at it? Ohh wait, the people who are going to try use this tutorial will probably copy it from Astrix anyways.

G'day ! Nice Tutorial. It's a very nice summary of most of the tips found on isratrance concerning kick and bass.

The argument about generating un-creativity in other people is pure BS if you ask me: it's just some general tips and tricks and it's up to the people if they use them like dogmatic morons or in a creative way.

I think i'll post a tutorial on the use of reverbs in a few days to obliterate all the creativity there might be left

sound tutorial Mike, but as has been said, it all depends on wether peepz are gonna use it verbatim or add it to their arsenal of knowledge/technique.

Thanx

i think this will help many people indeed, and no matter if some of them will just copy what you´ve done, with time they´ll begin experimenting new stuff from there...

i think here in isra we have a lack of constructive topic as these one, so congratulation mike and keep it up

I don't have anything new to add to what has already been sayed about Kez's reply. For people like me, who are beginners, this is a great way to learn. Cubase is a really advanced program and might be frustrating to learn. Off course my aim is to create my own unique style in the future. But at this moment, I need posts like this one to get to know the sequencer. And come on man, "hate you" is a really strong word.

Well thanks again, Mike A!

By the way, this is my 100th post I'm chasing you, Lithium

Again - no point in copying what I did there since it won't sound good at all.
I made it in low volume and with radio in the background hehe
I didn't really mix anything there. I was just doing it for the screenshots.

just a question:

to control the lenght of notes/sounds if using a synth, why not mess with the amp envelope instead of editing a wave file in a wave editor?

thanks

It really boggles my head when people get upset over the sharing of knowledge.

If someone wants to write music exactly like this, and they enjoy it, why - WHY should we not help them? Because we happen to be tired of it? That's not their problem, that's our own.

And maybe if we give them the answers to make that stereotypical bassline, then maybe they will become bored with it faster than if they had to spend two years learning how to do it. When they become bored, they start experimenting. This way they start experimenting faster.

Cheers Mike, this is the kind of attitude we need more on this forum: open exchange of information and the sharing of experience.

If we ourselves cannot revolutionize the scene, then at least let us pass on our experiences so that someone else will have a better chance at it.

peace,

-Alex

Agree 100% with fuzzikitten.
I want to mention that I really don't think making the notes as short as 1/64th is necessary if your synth has a very quick decay and almost no release. Ive been using 1/16th - 1/64th (too lazy to do the math). But maybe I will try 1/64th notes, or 1/32's.
To me it seems the longer the note is, the fatter it will sound, as long as it decays enough so that there's some silence in between 2 notes. Correct me if I'm wrong though. The only thing I don't understand Mike is why you need to chop the kick trail when sidechaining ducks the bassline. Is it because a kick with a trail thats too long, will lower the first bassline note's volume too much?

I didn't edit anything. I only used the wave editor to show how it looks like.
You can do that actually, and I do it sometimes. But I decided not to include it in the tutorial since it's too much for a start.
Besides, in my case the Tau Pro has no release control - so there's not much you can do.

This is how the Tau Pro works. You saw how long the note looks in the wave editor, even though the note length is 1/64?

Exactly. Not only that, if you're making a bassline like I mentioned here - by the time the kick reaches the second 1/16 of the beat, there is already a bassline note. In my opinion, it's better for the bassline note to give those very low frequencies (especially if it's after the first 1/16) and not the kick.

Sorry i took a fast look at the pics and thought you were doing that... i'm not using tauPro because i tryed it and found not "enough control" but i've heard very nice stuff made with it... most on the sub 6 kind of psy

regarding kicks, i use a gate type envelope in these too... also making sure it isn't droping too fast because it can induce artifacts (since we're using the "lowest" end of the spectrum)

i also think this is useful to lots of new producers.
This is the pretty basic things for a bassline. Anyone can change this settings for more suitble ones acording to nececity, or make in other way. thats up to each one.
I think the ones that cant understand this simple atitude, its because they're jealouse because they didnt had noone that teach them before
