daleks, all you've said is really amazing and true.
i was seeing just how many times this thread has been read from people all over the world...
shite, Mike A`s did a wonderfull job for the future and evolution of psytrance producing. as he said, he did it pretty so-so, but for sure it showed a bunch of very important aspects, and also explained them properly.
today i do way different basslines than those of the tutorial, but if it wasn`t for the tutorial i would be still doing some stupid mistakes, since i`m one of the very few producers in my region.

Wonderful!!

I've just started doing some production and this is exactly what Im looking for!

Was battling a bit I admit, but I'm new in the game, only 2 weeks on Cubase!           :: Life can be as bitter as dragon tears

Heh, just had a look at this thread again since like half a year or something.

It's funny reading through it, seeing that people are almost blaming me for the entire "ALL MUSIC SOUNDS THE SAME FULL ON GMS BASSLINE" crap.

I'll say it again and again - if you do exactly what I did there you'll get one hell of a shit bassline. I did that on purpose so we won't have 50 tracks sounding the same.
I shared my technique which sounds quite good, when done correctly. This is, again, a general guideline to give people some help in getting started and letting them think of some more things they didn't think of (such as cutting the kick tail or using RBass).

This is by no means meant to be a "do this and make gms music". Besides, I'm quite sure that GMS makes their basslines differently.

Have a nice day!

yeah... they've got a super secret synth made exclusively to them by bob moog and some other experts working for clavia, access, etc.

It's is rumored that the electronics used in that bass synth include classified technique learnt from recent contact with non-terrestrial beings (search for hangar 18 and synth development on google).

i dont really think it matters even if you do totally cop someones style, in effect your just doing covers of their stuff, which isnt going to amount to much in the end.

production techniques, though, thats a different thing, i.e. how something should sound, or in other words, why does my track sound good at home, but way too much low frequency etc, on a larger system.

again, this tutorial has made several things click together, which is going to help my music sound alot more palatable to discriminating ears.

heres the same song from the previous post, using some of the techniques mentioned in the tutorial

(yeah, i renamed it..)

one question, though, Mike...
Rbass vs MaxBass, is there a difference between, them? I have been using them kind of interchangeable, and found both pleasant, although there may be some nuances i am unaware of...

also, for filtering out low frequencies, which is better , EQ, or a High pass filter? or is there not a difference? from my understanding, EQ cuts or boosts a signal by frequency, while a filter removes all content below the cut-off. ...           Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

Different ways of boosting the bass... I personally find RBass much better.

High pass, although most equalizer can be set to high pass as well.

from my personal experience and humble opinion, rbass is more a booster and maxx bass is more a balancer. i find the rbass effect too strong so i prefer maxx bass that is more slight and easyly controled.

Is possible to have a list of free vsts (possibly for mac) that does the Waves part of this tutorial?

Right now I'm using NyquistEq since I don't have the Waves pack..           --

ok for the Rbass, try EYB's bass expander i think its called.
Its pretty cool.
for the Eq and sc compresison, sorry friend, i don't know.

Check in the "Read this First" section, there is a thread for VSTs, there must be something there.           Rather than feeling that you're about to have the rug pulled from under you, let me teach you how to dance on a flying carpet

What a bloody brilliant little illustration that tutorial is.

Fab

Took me years to work all that out and it's been here all this time!

Never tried rBass for some reason - I think it's not in the Waves Gold pack?

The tutorial is verry nice (great job) Mike !
I have a question.
Can i load the bd wave in a sampler
and cut the BD tail via envelope ?
4 exapmle in the NI Battery has such a
Envelope.
I use 4 my BD 4 channels
1 to trigger the sampler
and 3 subgroubs
1 4 with the pan put strict 2 the right
1 4 with the pan put strict 2 the Left
1 4 with the pan put strict 2 the center

Left and rigt a litte bit loder the the center one

The first trigger Midi channel is
mutet and the signal is going 2 the
subs.
If i want 2 chance something i just
change the trigger channel(a bit reverb
compression and eq 4 example )
The other 3 r vergin exept the volume fader.

bone_flute, i have big problems understanding your post. why would you use 4 channels for bd?!?

i hope people would stop using '2' and '4' in place of 'to' and 'for'...
