for me:

Namaskar, Natural Born Chillers, Mountain High, Module 02, Gus Till - Electric Oceans

for me these are like the average mediodre full-on album/compilation. They seem like taking the safe way, tried and tested formulas, nothing surpising happening...

I really hope the psy/chill does not follow the way of full-on...

Funny...all these records you mentioned, in my opinion, are top quality music, as well most of the records mentioned here in these forum....i think you should be a bit more open minded to art, even if it isn't as much original as you would expect...it´s just a matter of feeling, and the rest will flow,)

Well, i don't think its about open-mindedness. If it was I would reject them after the first listen. I can't help it but to ME they sound mediocre. Maybe the reason is that I have been blown away quite a few times the past couple of years by very impressive releases.
My view is that the average quality in these sub-genres is sky high. I don't know how all these wonderful artists do it but there is an ocean of blissfull and exstatic music out there! So this means that my standards now are higher than they were 3-4 years ago.           --- open the doors and let the music flood in ---

Yes, an ocean of releases! It used to be hard to find any TOP NOTCH *psychedelic* chill tracks at all - it was a very obscure thing. Now we are blessed with .."too many"!

-----------------------

But with the boom in producers and innformation technology... It's never been easier to find music, enjoy music, review music, buy music, mix music, listen to music -

It's has also never been easier to AVOID BAD CHILL ALBUMS! So why do we sometimes end up with them?
---------------
A quick count on my CD rack shows I bought
about 30 downtempo cds last year.

~8 - amazing, will treasure forever
~15 - good stuff! Will play sometimes
~7 - don't listen to. WASTE!

My strategy to avoid buying bad albums in 2005:

Order CDs only once every 4 to 6 months or so, in large batches. don't buy into the hype of getting something just because 2 or 3 people think it's amazing... Read reviews, talk to djs, and see how the buzz builds over MONTHS... Then LISTEN to the samples carefully... not just PREVIEW them in a hurry. I'll make a list of 20 I want, and then cut it down to 10 - for all KILLERs and no FILLERs.

this way i won't get the hottest tracks of the moment, but I hope to get stuff that i will enjoy for the long-term.

btw, this is just temporary...I'm going to manifest richer employment, so I can buy ALL the chill albums that look half interesting... and give the bad ones to starving children, homeless and thrift stores

It's just impossible to answer to such a topic..

I've read some examples here that I just love, and meanwhile I couldn't read some albums/comps that I would have mentionned, maybe..

Chill Out penetrates me just deeper than dance-floor music, and therefore the emotions created are stronger.. That's why it would be useless to argue about something so ehm... personnal..

One can read here some are into more dubby stuff, while others are more into am/illbient sounds, darker, or emotional/very melodic..

Let's just say there's some good and less good stuff in all those 'directions'... and that my personal taste tends to avoid the 'very melodic' stuff.. Even if hehehe, there are altought some very good melodic stuff..

EVEN IF THERE ARE BAD CHILL ALBUMS IT IS UNFAIR TO MENTION THEM ONLINE AS THIS IS BAD PUBLICITY FOR THE ARTISTS AND THIS IS ALL ABOUT TASTES AT THE END OF THE DAY SO IT WOULDN'T BE FAIR IF ONE WON'T BUY AN ALBUM BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE IT!

...you mean that you wouldn't buy a specific album just because one member of the forum says that its crap? Wouldn't you search a bit more?

Anyway, this is discussion seems pretty harmless to me.           --- open the doors and let the music flood in ---
