I understand your points, people, but don't you think you are all VERY elitist and snobbish?

You sound like members of a country club who dont wanna let the "Nouveaux Riches" in .

When I went to my first trance party in 1995, i was a 15 year old raver with Buffalo boots, orange clothes and blue hair who was twirling his glowsticks around. But back in the day people werent that snobbish and i felt a lot more comfortable in the trance crowd so i kept going to trance parties and lost my "raver" ways, even though i never grew out dreads either.

My point is, if people would have been as snobbish then as you guys are now, they would have never accepted me into the trance crowd and i would have never gone to a trance party again and who knows, maybe i'd still be listening to Happy Hardcore today ( I hope not...).           Check out my album: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/gay-satanic-hippie-tiefenrausch

mate its got buggerall to do with elitism... its got to do with being scared of having your cars stolen, your belongings pinched, your toes trampled, it about the loss of P.L.U.R as FluoSamsara said.....

omg, it really sadens me what i have read in this thread. this is really an elitist attitude which shines through some remarks made here. why is that? if u dont like the parties anymore, just dont go.
i do understand some points though, like criminal behavior etc.
but what i hate most is this, he doesnt look like a trancer, thats no trance music but house, he/she uses the "wrong" drug blabla
becouse this is destroying the feeling/expression of trance parties i used to love most:
tolerance

(btw i never understood that arsim concept. what is it? what i understood it must be someone like nokeyaah, which simply behaves kind of aggressiv... no offence i just dont get it....)

your right patrick and aje, accept ppl for who they are. respect for everyone. . . . .except of course the ppl that dont have respect.

that i think is the heart of this matter.           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

definetelly agree, respect is the heart of this matter...

and I don't think anyone criticised other ppl in here for what they dress or what type of music they prefer...i think its all about respect...

I don't think it is an elitist atitude, I accept anyone, of any age and size , just has long they know how to respect other ppl

And i don't agree this discusion is "destroing" the feeling/expression of parties, as patrick said, its just the oposite, we're just woried to see some things going the wrong direction, and were just expressing our feelings, our personal experiences in the current party scene in our countries.

I like to be relaxed in parties, I like to feel safe and secure, is that too much to ask?

I dont know until which point respect and tolerence goes on till. One of the most important point fluosamsara mentioned is feeling relaxed in parties. this you dont seem to find much anymore.
I respect fully a person who has nothing to do with trance who comes to trance parties, that is "respecting" me. but if those people are just making you feel unconfortable(and by this I mean acts that directly affect you) than my tolerence goes down.
and my personal complaints about majority coming without knowing what is being played is a personal statement. Imagine you go with great excitement to several parties to artists you really like. and imagine you get music nothing to do with what you expect from the artist(reason being dj playing for what the majority of the crowd wants). So try to understand me on that one. Wasnt trying to judge other music listeners.and also I gave my own solution not to going to parties anymore.
one thing I got into trance for was the confortable feeling you get, and the sense of belonging to a community. if some people are trying to break this, I will of course voice my critisizms on the current situation. if you call that elitist and snobbish, than I send my good wishes out to you

I live in Finland now, and here the drug culture (sorry to say) is quite horrible. Its almost like a test of manhood, to take as much drugs (including alchohol) as possible and show the world that finns are the most fucked up party ppl - the most common remark I've heard is "you dont understand this because you dont take enough drugs" - which is, IMO, straying from the path of purity.

Thats quite right, although nowadays i've seen people react negatively to the drug scene.

I love electronic music in all of its forms, but i feel that im disconnecting from the psyscene(which i actually never entered) because of the damn drug-megapsy-letsgetenlightened stuff.

It's a shame.

i agree about the over-drug thing... these days its become about the drugs too much....
the highest I've been is after dancing for 2 days on no drugs (accept joints and chillums )
its very hard to do that these days...

as for arsim in israel... idiots in other places... yes they do exist

balloons are terrible.

stepping on idiot's feet... will def work.

anyone in the US complaining about arsim and idiots... you guys have no idea about idiots... because parties in the US generally have more of a peaceful vibe to them... (though I'm sure the parties in Texas would have a lot of idiots... I'm just talking about NY)...

about respect... there is self-respect too... and some idiots dont understand that, and when you are not treating yourself with respect, you usualy are not treating others with respect.

to the people who have been going to parties in Goa over the last few years... what do you think about the scene there?

I also agree with patrick and aje:

years back I used to be one of those 17 year old kids …

some time later became one of those drugged out youngsters (almost everybody experiments at some point in their life, and there will always be people that go beyong their limits)

then i overdressed for parties so people looked at me strangely when walking the streets, hell even during the party.

but I hope that someday i'll be that 40 year old guy enjoyingly nodding his head to the beat while sipping a alcoholfree cocktail and a smoke.

I think we've all at some point taken part of the things that are being disliked here... and yes it's to easy to look at them and nod dissaprovingly... don't judge people that easely...

try and be a positive influence instead on all this of bowing your head in dissapointment and quitting your party-years.

i think it's up to you...

i agree with rik..
like the portuguese people say.. the cenne in portugal is getting very bad... when tecno ppl...drug dealers...and people that just dont understand what is a trance party.. take over.. this is the result...
but there are places where we can see the "old" spirit..i played on belgium some weeks ago.. and people dont put the trance cenne to commercial to gain equal things like the others electronic genres in your country.. because you have a beautifull cenne.. just keep it the way you have it..

just to finish i think this thing of the "mitras" as we call in portugal.. have so mutch problems like...

lucrative party - many people instead of kuality people

agressive sound - bad mood

drugs - "party without drugs?"(that is realy possible..lol dont think so)(some partyes you have more people that sell drugs.. than people that actualy consume)

ego/psychologic problems - many people just enter the cenne to try to be someone.. to feed their ego theyr disturbed dreams...(when you have a main artist sayng hes a rock star..my good he just do music to the called mitras.. and why because he act like one of them.. you can call it skazi or other many names that exist around..)this is just a big exemple.. then you can use it on party organizers and etc etc..

so do you think we can solve this problem.. offcourse not.. its the cenne envolving.. the kids that start to go to partyes now.. they think that everithing is ok... and why because the cenne is exactly like that ugly etc.. its just that we dont want to be like that or see it.. but when you grow up on a cenne you get used to it.. so this discution is just like talking about a never ending story that is writen every day..every weekend... what can we do.. we can watch and make part of it or not.. there are so many things in life.. when festivals look to me like a regular party maybe i will get out of the cenne...
se thats my opinion stay well          Hatha yoga, body and mind balanced...

Eh, no. False assumption. I've been to countless parties in Texas (was involved in the trance scene there for years), and also attended several parties in other scenes the states (NY, San Fran, LA, Colorado). The parties in Texas were mostly very small and quite family-oriented, so there were actually less trouble-makers and idiots than I saw in larger parties in other places. Go party there before you make assumptions about it....

Sorry to go offtopic - just gotta stick up for my old home.

I think rik is very right here, this is really the main and only thing to do.
There are a lot of things happening on trance parties, that I don't like. There are even more things happening in this whole world, that I don't like. Only by living a positive example, showing an alternative to 'asshole'behaviour can we make a change. If that means a development away from big comercial partys and principals of consumption, great.
