thanks DETOX, that what i thought to do and doing, but please next time when you go to secret worldwide label meetings (lol) tell to 70% of them that i just put 2-3 small fades and tell them to stop saying things like gimmie full .wav for that and for that (test on party, even ambient they test on party...). wait maybe i'm wrong, every labels says "send demos to", the word demo, it has meaning no?

thanks again for replies mates.           Without Deviation, Progress Is Not Possible.

But you will miss the money from the radio stations if you dont sign up... And also some money for your mechanical rights + copyrights.

I had to get involved in this topic because it's right up my street and something that has been bothering me about the trance scene since we started to release our music some 5 -6 years ago.
Every artist should register with this company and EVERY label has to pay mechanical royalties for EVERY medium they produce. This is irrelevant of whether the artists are registered or not in such an organisation as ACUM (in israel i assume) (i think this explanation is quite straight forward - http://www.wordworx.co.nz/Mechanical.htm)
NOW the fact that most (from our experience) labels don't pay these royalties is another matter - sooner or later the tax man will catch up to them and believe me when they do it might not look so rosy !
I'll try and give you a simple example PROSECT from an artists point of view. You register your track with ACUM. You release the track on a label. The label sells X amount of CD/LP with your track but they don't pay the mechanical royalties. What do you do ? You go to ACUM show them the CD and tell them the name of the label and it's THEIR DUTY to get your money for you because these organisatiopns exist in ALL countries of the world.

If you don't register your track - what can you do about it ? N O T H I N G !!!

The other side is that it might take a couple of years for the money to come through these organisations to another country - but remember patience is a virtue           The truth is out there .........somewhere

Prosect... ACUM and companies like it (MCPS in the UK) only deal with licenses to manufacture records... in the UK a pressing plant won't manufacture CDs or vinyl if the label can't show them a license from MCPS to say they have permission for the music on it.

Labels ALL have to pay license fees to manufacture in the UK; whether the artist collects these fees purely depends on whether they are a member of MCPS and whether they have notify MPCS of the existence of their tracks. I am a member and recieve a very small amount every year or so... I have only notified the MCPS of a few of my released tracks though so there is a larger amount waiting for me to claim it. Many artists make as much through MCPS payments as they do through sales.

I repeat: if a label (at least in the UK) is releasing your track, they have ALREADY paid the license fee, and it is up to you to claim your share. I don't know about other coutries but there are international agreements that supposedly mean that each territory has its equivalent organisation.

MCPS and PRS and ACUM and companies like it all over the world exist FOR YOUR BENEFIT and musicians have worked hard for many years to lobby for the legislation that gives them the teeth they have.

Yes Colin Cood is absolutely right. In most countries labels "have to pay" this fee. This is the law!!

This is great extra money for the artist, almost the same as the sales money.
