After a debate in another topic about this forum's most pretty face I like to ask the DJanes in this forum the following question.

Be honest now.

Do You really like to sell yourself like this example (the 1st flyer):

http://www.psychedelic.gr/index.php?option=com_zoom&Itemid=45&page=view&catid=61&PageNo=1&key=0&hit=1

Or do you prefer to be taken serious for how good a Dj (or artist) you are and not the way you look?

I hate it more when people use words like DJane. By adding the Jane you might as well put the female on a flyer with a bikini. I have always thought it a bit odd that other female djs embrace this title.

I personally haven't had any cheezy photos taken for flyers because I think it degrades and what take away from what skills that you have to offer. I would hate to have someone say, oh she only got booked because she is a pretty face. Let the skills prove the talent, not the titties.

There is no denying that some shady promotors do this, because we as we all know, sex sells.

I agree but it was intended as a little provocation

I like to keep things simple and use the word DJ. All this gender obsession is unnessesary. Let the talent and music talk instead

Good question.

Female dj's can add alot to an experience because of their sex. But their sex makes a difference not in terms of physical appearances but through their interpretation of music. And this interpretation can be highly effective on the danceflor.
Take for instance DJ Fria who plays in NYC ocasionally. She plays some hardcore shit, that sometimes i find hard to conect with, but her energy and attitude while playing does wonders for me.

All Dj's, be them men or women need to be judged according to their skills and talent, not because of who they are or what they look like.

I fully support this.

I wont get any bookings for my fat stomach, and I dont want to loose them because of it either.

Its about the music, nothing else.

I will leave it up to the ladies to judge if Astrix is a hottie or not

But yes we do also have many examples of over eager labels, organisers and artists that promote male artists and dj's in ways that in my opinion does not really have much to do with psytrance or what I in MY OPINION would like to see our scene develope into. But then again their music is not really psytrance anyway

If u guys think that psytrance shouldnt be associated with those kind of "political" issues, what about then when psytrance goes together with female half naked bodies? (i saw so many album covers that looks more like horny Aerosmith covers..then what they have to do with trance..c'mon...show us ur hairy chests & shoulders' hairs!!)
What the hell has got THAT to do with trance?!?! Is goa or psy (whatever way u wanna call it) just a macho orientated music?
And when i see those topics about "we need more female djs"..what can i say? On a strictly male/macho point of view u guys need more female (read=pretty & hot) djs?!? for ur own fun? so now girls are allowed to spinn only because some alpha monkey decided "it's cool" ..?!?!

I couldnt stop myself on reacting on this one..
What i wrote on my previous quote above says it almost all... and Krell: wise words dude!

But when it comes up to this...:
"If women want to be equal to men, they should be so."
...u'll also clearly see that most of the organizers are guys..and of course, when it comes up to "females-topic"...they all go a bit poco-loco when they see a pair of nice tits etc...

Dunno dj Yo-Yo (...hate the 'djane' tag ..) personally, but gotta say that the girl would probably make much more money if she would sell some of hers pixx to PlayBoy magazine..instead of using them for promotion on a psy-trance level..

I personally spinn from some years now, and i never thought to use my female identity (..im not such a sex-symbol anyways..) to score more gigs...and gotta say, Thanx God the music i play and the energy that goes with it do the job quite fine.

The fact that we're living on a macho-orientated world...it's just too much of a pity...

i fully agree.
and its true female djs bring a different feel to the party.
it doesnt really matter imo tho. if the dj can connect with his/her music, then looks dont matter.
but if 'djanes' want to promote themselves..who are we to say anything?

In my opinion i think it's quite shallow to sell your skills using other means--> taking your clothes off! Personally, i would never resort to that in order to get people to listen to my stuff, but then again different strokes for different folks

I guess men are also to be blamed a little here because over the passage of time.. women have come to learn what sells n what doesn't and through which means-- women are are insecure and to a certain extent quite apprehensive especially in this scene, where there is so much male talent already n the critics are ready to shread u into pieces!! So in the end-- women do it to get attention and it sure helps!

No need to despair because I feel only the most passionate people who really love and understand the music and have respect for the scene eventually survive--

Whats wrong with the DJ Yo Yo picture on the flyer?

I find it really nice and professional.

Many male artists also got professtional pictures taken and use them on flyers, yeah they dont appear on them with bikinis because after all they are male but they got this superstar image on them that works really well on the flyer.

Bring it on and if you got some more Yo Yo pictures just post them over here heh.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!
