I hate it more when people use words like DJane.

The only reason I clicked on this thread was to say exactly that.

"DJane" - isn't that the most stupid, cheesy, insulting, and moronic expression you've ever heard??

Does that make me a "DJoe"?

As for getting your tits and arse out on a flyer, I think its a really good idea - if you want to be treated like a pair of tits and an arse.

I think it's all a bit ridiculous myself. I laughed out loud when I saw that Yo Yo flyer in the other thread. Yep, nice body pet, but doesn't make me think of trance or want to hear your sets. Makes me think of all the MTV-style pop tartlets who get jiggy with it to distract/detract from how shit the 'music' they are promoting actually is. Sadly, as has already been stated a number of times, sex sells. She'll no doubt make oodles of wad and next time it'll be a thong and a pair of boobie tassles...what a shame.

The DJane expression? Bwahahahahahaha is all I have to say.

And to Detox - I think you'll find Ott does indeed have a girlfriend. You're just jealous because he almost certainly has a bigger following of groupies. Even boys love him innit.

Women are not the only victims of the male ego; all forms of life are suffering, from these alpha male or masculine archetype values, such as power, competition, dominance (hegemony) and hereditary obsession. I’m sort of a feminist, although I’m of man.

Well, women are no better than men really. This is also a proven point when it comes to women rising to ranks of power: Cleopatra, Margaret Thatcher etc

The problem is not gender, the problem is species

Humankind, also you and me, are perverted and ripped out of nature into culture.

The problem then is, our culture is abusive to nature. This fact is true, regardless or sex.

I could go endlessly into detail to proove my point in this - but its not what this topic is about

I completely concur with your sum-total; however, you are very wrong vis-à-vis the male EGO IMHO - from a sociological perspective.

The fact that some women have attained a masculine EGO, especially women in pursuit of power, doesn’t prove your point; it underlines my line of argument.
Off-course most examples of women in power, will be women with a large male EGO, since in-order to excel in a system created by the male EGO or alpha males, you will have to endorse their line of thought and argument, and thus becoming part of the dominator culture, which primarily is run by males over forty. Women (The feminine) in general, are less interested in things, like power and career advancements, proven by countless statistics, another interesting article I read a month ago in B.T, (Danish newspaper), had shown that men enjoyed revenge far more then women, in general, another interesting observation, about the differences which comprise our species.

Our species is doomed as long as EGO in general, plays such a major part of our lives.

ewwww, i hate the DJane term as well, its super cheesy and yucky.
I think its important to differentiate between the use of gender as a means of embracing inherent aspects of yourself and using "sex" to sell a "product" or in this case a dj gig.
Males and females are different (duh!!) biologically and otherwise. There are certain energies or feelings that are unique to each gender. I think its important to celebrate those things. I find it especially important to embrace those feminine aspects that are so often repressed in this male dominanted culture in which we live (and on a smaller scale, male dominated electronic music scene). But just because males and females are different, doesn't mean they shouldn't be treated equally.
Using sex to get yourself gigs, or to further your career as a DJ is not celebrating your feminine side but exploiting it. It's fake and gross, and i find it very out of place in psytrance.
and btw, Ever notice how almost every thread discussion about female musicians is centered around physical appearance? It's always, "what does she look like?"

But ego can also be a good thing Remember that.

Things are the way they are for a reason, both the male and the female ego.

Both the gentle, and the harsh ways.

I dont think we need to get rid of any of those, but Im sure they could be balanced out much better socially than what they are now.

For starters, assigning responsibility over ressources because of competence and not gender would be a nice change.

Relative to this debate, you dont achieve that by putting focus on things that are not essential.

I think, women have their place in society, as do males. Noone should set rules to what you can be and how, however, men are better at same things than women and visa versa.

That is a natural thing, and has nothing to do with culture or male dominance.

We watch TV and drink beer (because we are good at it), they make food, change our dipers and bring us new beer.

Thats just the way of things

More seriously, I think we should stand by our sex and by what we are. Change doesnt come over night, and ego as such is an important part of ourselves.

We need ego, if we have no ego, we have no sense of self. If we have no sense of self, we dont take care of ourselves.

Your definately right about the discussions being centered around physical appearance. Very yucky when some of the values of our scene are spirituality, deep experiences and everything but shallowness.

In regards to electronic music being male dominated, you are of course correct. However, I have not myself experienced anything but men trying to get women to become a bigger and more visible part of the scene.
In short, it gets lonely when its just us guys, and I think we appreciate the female touch and spice much more than most really know... and Im not talking physical appearances here.

Im sure Im not the only one who is a BIT worried when you go to a party and we have like 80% males there...
I think, parties create the crowd, as such we need more women to take responsibility by becoming part of what creates the scenes expression.

However, it must be done the right way - I think males being open to females is very precious, and should not be destroyed by some women exploiting looks and physical fact as a promotional salespoint. Especially since Im sure many partyorganizers & promoters know the value of it, and WILL exploit it if they can.
Afterall - If we start to grow a mentality that female artists are only getting gigs due to their sex, then we have undermined this wonderfull open spirit I at least feel there is.

I could be wrong though, Im talking about my local experiences here in Denmark... and they are that we try to encourage females to play a more active part in djing & musical production - artistry in general.

Here on Isratrance I see some of the most dedicated people contribute to the culture by writing in these forums - and what I see is that all the females who wrote in this thread seem to agree. That sends a strong message I think A message of consensus in this matter, amongst those most involved & invested into our culture.

There can be all kinds of DJs.

Homosexuals
Transgendered
Bisexual
Race 1
Race 2
Germans
Indians
Handicapped
Mentally Impaired
Children
Adults
Old People

All deserve their fair chance at DJing, Performing or Expressing themselves....

And - What determines if they get the chance is "bookings", and those are again determined by promotion... So, for it all to be fair and right focus must be on the art and not the artist.

Afterall, why try and create an alternative culture to the mainstream pop culture if you dont try to make it better ?

he he, well you are replying to a woman who helps run a psytrance label with 4 other women... so we are definitely trying to do our part to get more women involved in psytrance. this is from our mission statement:
"Our collective feminine energy has become a powerful source of inspiration for us. We are hoping to restore some of the missing female energy within the traditionally male dominated electronic music scene."
In fact, we are working on an all female compilation right now
I realize that here in San Francisco, it might not be an accurate representation of how things are in the rest of the world. Here there are 2 labels with female leads (m.o.e & Dropout) both are actively throwing parties... there are many many many other women that play key roles in the psytrance scene here as well...
sorry i got a bit off topic... but here the females are encouraged to be involved in the community, and not for reasons such as sex, but because their contributions are valuable to the entire community...

peace
megan

Again I like to say that the title DJane was meant to provoke in hope that maybe the Woman in question would join the the debate.

As I wrote earlier I do not like that name Djane and prefer to call a DJ a DJ or a Woman a Woman
