its the morning after earthcore and was wondering what people thought of the festival. eat static's set completely changed my opinion of the party thought they rocked.it seemed to me like a bit of a one night event there were nine live psycedelic acts in a row on saturday which was a long and messy stomp but not alot happening on friday the music stopped at 3am, strange we fork out 150 for a one night party. don;t get me wrong i had a rude time and witnessed some incredible live sets the atmosphere and vibes just weren't there. would be interested to here other peoples opinion BOM

ok here goes:
Warning: this post may offend some readers specifically those affiliated with earthcore.

afer attending my first earthcore about 7 years ago this was the first 1 i had been to in about 3 years and now i remember why:
i arrived about 4 pm saturday arvo - went down by the river which was lovely - the highlight of the party!!!
the set-up - everything was far too close together...I'm sure it made spiro's life easier during set-up so he didnt have so far to run from stage to stage but really an event of that size should have been much more spread out especially considering you had 2500 acres to work with. it was not like the EC's of old when you had a decent walk from stage to stage. Also during breaks in the music you could hear the music from the other floors which really took away from the track/set/atmosphere.
decorations - a night time focus, lasers etc were great but the day time decor was quite honestly shithouse. no colour at all - very lazy and complacent effort - very dissappointing.
wires hanging over your heads - DIG A TRENCH its really not that hard!!!
sound system - main floor - ok but nothing special.
2nd stage - very nice sound indeed!!!
other areas - good enough.
music - very very dissappointing -
younger brother - what i heard was great.
GMS - just put on any of their trax and hit repeat for 1.5 hrs - i was bored out of my brains during this set and nearly fell asleep standing up.
hallucinogen - he is the master - i wasnt tripping so it didnt do so much for me but still appreciate the sound he creates!! SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE BIG STAGE.
1200 mics - i thought i was going to a trance party not a rock concert. the first time i have ever heard a group be introduced by each member - was a disgrace in my opinion. this was the banging giuitar set of the party - not my cup o' tea at all. and they continued to destroy dire straits, the Police (i almost cried that they attempted to make a trance version of this - no words but the melody) and the blues brothers. guys some advice - if you cant think of any new melodies yourself then stop making music!!!!
then after 15 mins of silence which was disgraceful and saw the dancefloor half and then half again in size,
Eat static came on and didnt impress me at all. again wasnt tripping which didnt help but i couldnt even appreciate their sound - a lot of noise!
sorry to be picky and a bit harsh on these so called stars of our scene but really nothing they did impressed me.
as i said the gaps between sets was unacceptable. any vibe that may have existed was killed, however unfortunately there was NO vibe to destroy at all.
Son Kite - well HE (not them unfortunately) floated my boat for a little while. if the sound system would have been a bit better it would have been great. was another high point in a pretty low party.
heard a bit of freq on the 2nd stage who was magnificent. i left around then - just couldnt handle being there anymore.

overall - if you wanted/needed a place to go and get fucked up then this was the place for you....if you needed/wanted a place with quality people and music and vibe then dont go to EC. i know this is all very harsh but really when you spend that much time and money you should make sure that every detail is accounted for and in this circumstance it was most definitely not.
thats about all i can be bothered writing about for now.

wow...too bad!
Dave i feel ya Bro' but from your review it sounds like u are not a big fullon fan(hard to blame any one with the shit beeing produced these days)which wouldnt make this festi' any better for u....and u knew the lineup.
BUT everything u said about the production is just sad to hear/know....when u take so much money and have such a reputation around the world u should live up to it! shit deco???? avrg sound???? stages beeing to close???? wires???? INTRODUCING THE MEMBERS(in a trance fest)????????? now this is all wrong and could have been taken care of with out to much of a hassle.....all i can say is that in many places psytrance is becoming a quick money maker and the spirit kinda went POP(and i live in Israel!!!)
from all the places ive partied at,Aussie would be the last place i would think this would happen but.....what can i say.....sad
Aussie Doofers your as psy as they come...DONT CHANGE!
Cheers.

p.s Dave.... not tripping? got the flew? hehe          "....or is it???"

hahaha
exactly - was sick with the flu all week!!!!

p.s. i am a lover of full-on but moreso protoculture and triptych and silicon sound and sub 6 and pixel and wrecked machines - sounds with a little innovation!!!

I agree completely the scene has become a money making industry for the big boys and a money loosing industry for the ones who try to bring something new and different...it makes no sense and is quite frustrating as a party goer, dj, and party organiser!!!
who knows maybe 2005 will bring a new attitude...one can only hope!!

"money making industry for the big boys and a money loosing industry for the ones who try to bring something new and different..."[/quote]
i think that earthcore is a prime example of a festival that has been created by and for a new generation of doofers. it has become about the money and not about promoting and introducing new trance acts. too much full on music not enough night trance to be blunt the worst festival i have ever witnessed. don't like being negative coz i appreciated the vibrent atmosphere down by the river and after 1200 mics left the stage they let eat static, sonkite and simon posford really create a proper festival atmosphere which made sunday special but till 5.30 on saturday night i wasn't very impressed. but thanks anyway to the EC crew you tried.

maybe if they had included some more local and fresh talent also , was a total lack of australian acts . would be good to have some support from such big australian promoters . much more good stuff to come this season though with tribeadelic and rainbow serpent . back to basic folks .

agreed
i think the only local PSY talent used was FreQ (& maybe a couple of other dj's) except for inhouse EC residents Dr.B and Alias, who really imho dont deserve to get the premier time slots I.e. 9am-12 main stage final day - i mean really that should be reserved for internationals or local live acts.

anyway....spiro can & will continue to do whatever the f*^k he wants - unfortunately without having any regard for the punters!!!!!

Agree with most of the points raised here...

But Earthcore IS NOT a psychedelic festival...its an electronic music festival.

Will write more later after some much needed sleep

seems like i hit the jackpot...more or less.....
everyone sort'a agrees on the details....welcome to the "world"
i can only say this...the Doofers are the ones that set the tune....u dont show up,the festi' is over! u support the spirit seekers...they grow!!!!
keep it simple keep it beautiful and dont give up!
Cheers from Israel.           "....or is it???"

pffffffffffft.. was a great party. There was vibe there, despite what anyone says about the intention of the organisers. Eat Static were fucking kickarse, they totally shat on the idea of what 'trance music' should be, whilst creating some of the most awesome sounds around. If you'd been up the front with no expectations due to your preconceptions about the intentions of the organisers perhaps you would've had a good time. Your words about "quality people" just prove how arrogant you are Dave           new Hadal Drop album on the way

sorry to disagree mate but IN MY OPINION
there was no vibe at all - clearly from the above posts i am not the only 1 who thought that way.
no preconceived ideas
no expectations
made any difference - The Reality is it is/was a money making venture that failed to take into consideration the punters!!

A question for you sam - this may be a minor point in the scheme of things but at a party as in life it is the make up of all the little things that make the big difference:

What did you think about the 15 mins of silence between 1200 mics and eat static? and about the announcing of members of the group???

meh, I didn't even watch 1200 mics.. no interest in them from here

I thought the 15 minutes silence was great because everyone fucked off so I could get prime spot front & left

Sure you're entitled to your opinions Dave but as you have acknowledged the following quote is harsh >>> "if you needed/wanted a place with quality people and music and vibe then dont go to EC."

all I know is up the front for Eat Static I was surrounded by friendly faces having a good time. During the night the crowd was certainly a little 'straighter' but I think that you know very well that to get acts of that calibre & still make your money back you have to appeal to a wide audience. Personally I enjoyed the fact that when I got bored of G. M. S. I could wander off & see Dee Dee play who I never would've got to see but had a great dance to.

My only qualm is that for the expensive entry fee they could've at least provided some decent shade cloths           new Hadal Drop album on the way

if you don't have the last one get in touch

dave and sam...

i guess it is about expectations...

i don't know how many big festivals you have attended sam but i know dave has seen it done in some of the best places in the world (and so have some of the others who have posted in this thread) so i guess they are entitled to express their honest opinion of earthcore in comparison to some of the other big festivals around the world... earthcore does claim to be a big festival possibly of international proportions (not mentioning anything about trance here as a lot of the festies in brazil never claim to be just trance) so i guess earthcore is open to examination and comparison...
