Amazing album, with only Ribbon on a Branch that I found unappealing (two sonic wizards do better than the human voice IMO). The rest are everywhere between good to amazing. I am a Freak... well, the bass is just as moving as it gets, and solid rhythms all the way make it the cream of the crop here - a track rarely impresses me that much (last one to do so was Amon Tobin's Foley Room).

All in all, one of the best, if not the very best, of the year.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Second album from YB finally released after 2 years of waiting. Long ago before releasing it was covered with some legendary aura, and it could lead to some disappointment, what usually follows long-going expectations. BUT NOT WITH Simon Postford and Bejni Vaughan and their fantastic new team.

Half an year before release the tracks were listened at some performances, Mixes were made (e.g. Camp Bisco 2007, Twisted Birthday Party) and even live performances (e.g. Ozora festival 2007). So from the first sounds everybody understood this is something really different!

Benji and Simon were using their guitar playing skills even before, but in this album live instruments are in leading roles. 3-4 months before the release some youtube videos were also known with rehearsals from YB studio work, so that all could feel the atmosphere of the new album. It's combining many kind of styles, not only from electronic genre. I suppose British culture and origins of the artists had great influence on their work. So that many could notice Pink Floyd and other art-rock band-like tunes (Yes, Camel.. I've heard some could feel even Jethro Tull influece!!! )in the tracks.

So let's talk about the tracks.

1. Happy Pills ('The Journey begins)
The journey begins.. and this is great beginning!.. it's not a secret that all psychedelic culture is based on mainly on magic drugs so this beginning is like first minutes of acid trip peak, when you finally realize that everything is different and great secret is not secret anymore!

Music transforms all the time, new effects and sounds are appearing and disappearing but they're gathered in harmony. Happiness fill the body when listening to this song, You feel the universe, oh god, where have I been before, why is it so fantastic, why, why?......

2. All I want ('BECAUSE!)
why?! maybe because you did not know what to want.. but Salvador Dali has better answer! Just believe you are paranoid, insane and you will have the answers like nobody else can give! PARANOIAC CRITICAL METHOD!!

This track is real masterpiece.. You can notice Pink Floyd influence (mainly guitar slides) and even Jean Michele Jarre (noticeable sounds from Oxygen). But anyway his is totally unique music!.. There is Latin sounds in the middle, quite similar to Michele Adamson voice, but I'm not sure about that. and male vocals incomes after the middle is well integrated in the great harmony.. want also to admit drums part, it's exactly like what it have to be, nothing less or more.. And the last part. Got stuck in it? me - YES!

3. Elephant Machine ('Getting Hard)
This track maybe goes to the past, in Shpongled past. Frankly past Shpongle maybe was better, but that guitar chords and melody coming from about 4th minute changes everything!! You still understand that this is NOW and HERE, and there will be FUTURE soon..

4. Your Friends Are Scary ('No future)
But with next track future not comes. The moment frozen, it's eternal. This track also reminds me Shpongle, but not as much as previous one. It has more colors and there's some 'undermusic' meaning covered, which I could not catch clearly. Well, not my favorite track.

5. I Am A Freak ('THIS IS THE FUTURE!)
When I've heard this track from Twisted DVD bonus CD, I was really pleased but!.. Here, in Album this is part of the great story so now I am pleased much more . Also sounds are more clear and toy can maybe feel that thin edge of reality..

Ok, about the music.. Sure, this breaks baseline it not maybe very often used by Simon and Benji, but this is Brilliant try!! They could do that. And that changing rythm and new melody which is coming, coming, coming.. your patience is almost finished, you start to worry.. and HERE IT IS! Now you thing this was what you were expecting, but no!! There's much more! Use this Paranoiac-Critical method, do IT.. WE ARE FREAKS!!

The best is if you can listen to this track like the first time.. Sometimes I can do that and now that I can change this beautiful world!! It can be more beautiful and there are no limits Jonathan!

6. Ribbon On A Branch ('Calm down, ok?)
Love.. do you know what is love? no?.. Well you need about 8 minutes to get closer to the meaning. This track is electronic maybe, and more harmonic.. I mean more mild, worm and expressing. Why people should kill when they can love? a? But this is rhetoric question and everybody know the answer, but very few understand.. These guys understand it clearly!

7&8. Sleepwalker Part 1 & 2 ('Plateau)
Shpongle again?.. or not? NO, it's something different. the first part is more calm, and the second one is again aggressive a bit, even more then a bit. but in this part I think Hallucinogen and Prometheus are better separately

9. Psychic Gibbon ('Goodbye freak)
Are you feeling you are getting back to the usual world? Has exactly 1 hour (mean 6-7 hours ) of colorful, intelligent, full of knowledge and new feeling and emotions, deep and fantastic trip finished already?.. yes, maybe you are right, but where is at least one flashback?.. The first one from the trip, which usually appears exactly after coming back to the body? HERE IT IS, dear sirs and madams! Some say this is perfect music but I don't agree as 'Perfect music' is whole album. Again, it's the first reminder about the past album.. did you listen to it carefully? have you become more 'clever'? Do you have something to say? NO?! Then go back to the start. But if yes, just make conclusion. This song is like resume or abstract of whole album, with sadness of coming back. For me it's like that.. I've cried when listened to it for the first time, I swear!.. was driving a car and crying! There were everything.. joy, sadness, worrying and calmness, smile and tears.. but the strongest was HAPPINESS!.. I recalled the first track, went back to it, and flew

So.. maybe this is not such 'musical' review of this song, but sorry about that.. I can not speak ONLY about music while talking regarding this album. So long time I had not such feeling of completeness that I simply can't hide this emotions.

Good luck people with in experiences with this album.

Rating: 10/10!

Once again SImon and Benji have not dispointed us.

Beuatiful stuff.
I was about to sleep yesterday when I decided to play it in my IPOD before going to bed.

I dreamt about waterfalls, birds and awesome landscapes.

10/10!

I just liked a few tracks from Flock of Beeps and I didn´t had very expectations from their second album.
This is brilliant music, one of the most original pieces of music I´ve heard in a long time. A true masterpiece.

Brilliant album. So good that you forget it needs to conform to any genre or even the previous Younger Brother stuff... groundbreaking while paying tribute to the classic live psychedelia.

Also sounds unbelievable on large sound system. Each instrument comes through with the clarity and perfection of electronic composition but the overall feel and energy is that of a live band. Played 2 tracks along with psychill from the last 3-4 yrs and this just shines through like nothing before... turned many knees into jelly.

Fav's are 4 & 9. Takes you to another era.

Thank you guys for giving our beloved sound a boost in the hopeful direction!

hmm

i didn't like this album very much, couldn't get into it at all, even as i tried to make myself listen to it. just found it way too predictable and cheesy, same as the recent Shulman. bummer.

or maybe it's just me.

Nope, it's not just you. I didn't really get into this as well. But hey, it's just taste right? I'm probably going to get dissed by people for saying this, but I think this stuff is way too overhyped. And yeah, there's way better electronics out there. Just now I'm listening to Future Sound Of London's 1994 album: Lifeforms. Now THERE'S good electronic music for you.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

Yes, absolutly overhyped - sure matter of taste. Anyway don't like it that much, good for a listen between anyway..

Ehmm yea, I could think of a lot great albums from another era or another genre. What good will it serve though? This is a very good album and I personally haven't heard that much good material this year. Especially not from the Psy Scene.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

it might serve to get artists to open their eyes and see that this music they're doing has been done better before, and more than once. And that there are a ton of other artists who are pushing boundaries every day and creating amazing music - it may not be "psy-anything", but it's psychedelic and really good. I would think Simon and Benji have enough talent and musical knowledge to make something a little more innovative - instead of simply cashing in on their past accomplishments and in the process maybe letting the whole psy-chill genre go the way of the dinosaurs.

I disagree. While it hasn't anything ground breaking (it rarely does nowadays) it certainly highly enjoyable for me. As for Psy-Chill going the way of the dinosaurs is nothing new and i can't see any connection to this release at all. There are maybe one or two tracks that can be tagged as Psy-Chill. The rest is a blend of tastes.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me
