Dynaudio BM5a Mkii vs Adam A7x

Anybody have any input that could swing me either way?
I don't have an opportunity to demo these side by side. I have heard the Adams and found the high end to be a bit bright. Haven't heard the dyns.

I havent really heard bad things about the dyns, maybe a phase issue with the crossover? T Adams have the port vibrating issue and I have also read that they can be a bit fatiguing.
I like the idea that the ports are on the front of the adams and the power switch and the volume, BUT I also like every review I've read on the dyns

Anyone got any first hand experience?           .............................................

Well as I have an nearly untreated room I can't really say something about the Adam mixing properties in generel but I they can be fatiguing but the difference after a break is no that big, yesterday I was about 6 hours nonstop working on a track, today I had to fix some stuff but really minor things including things that you will only hear after you took a longer break to gain some distance

for an untreated room I'm quiet satiesfied
check link in signature to hear my latest mixdown (made about 20 mixes on them now, first monitors ever)

have to say that the low end (below 60-70hz) is quiet but i think that monitors without sub aren't that much better in this range(?)

can't say if the highs/upper mids are really loud in comparison to the rest or if it's just my room, I have no treatment for high/upper mids just some up to ~320hz, but my bass was improving after that especially the 200-300hz area is now very stable without big dips or peaks or something like that when I test tone with sine wave

I checked both of them in the store, and the BM6a as well, and mate, the Adams piss over the dynaudios. Period...

I like them in the high end as well because it really helps as far a s critical eq is concerned, it will translate ever so smoothly onto other systems...

I have been getting compliments on my mixes and now even masters since I have the Adams A7X!!!

Thank you again Colin for recommending them to me!!!

Haven't heard the Dynaudios to compare but I love my Adam A7Xs

and yeah...having the switches on the front...is actually really really nice because I don't have to get up from my chair and go all over the place like on my last pair.           If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

dunno bm5a but bm6a and the adam are both capable... bm6a a bit overpriced to me when years ago you could get them for 1300/ 1500 dollars, there is inflation.. but they raised the price too much.. a7x and a8x i just heard them in store but look like good stuff, a bit hyped maybe ,slight smiley curve

check these too

Another happy user of Adam's a7x here

since i got em i have seen massive improvements in my mixes. i was suprised of how these monitors seperate the frequencies extremely well
top quality monitors for the price.

also worth to check the F series. F7 have the same amazing ribbon tweeter but less power and different material on woofer. these are much cheaper.

Well i cant describe the sound of adams but definetely i can say that is unique sound.

i dont know about bm5a mkii but when i bought my adams i was between bm6 and adams but the difference in the price of dynaudio it was rediculous. to expenssive.

In my experience Adam, Dynaudio and Focal are really great and quality monitors. I dont have any experience with genelec to say.

its a matter of taste...if you can test will be much better to make a nice choise.

Good luck

Sorry to ruin the party but I cant get the hype around Adam's A series.
Major flows for me in these monitors are:
- unnatural highs;
- really narrow mixing position;
- panorama is ok but depth is fucked up;
- port noise @ mid-to-high levels.

From these two I would get something else with at least 6" woofer.

many guys that used older adam don t like new ones from A serie but these seems to works.. these are not super expensive too, you get what you pay for i think.

imo the ribbon always been a bit hype.. almost no other speaker use these cause it don't really sound natural and i think is really not optimal to implement .. but this i don t really remember.. for mixing i like it..

Highs are fine albeit a bit pronounced.

The mixing position, well, you just have to find the sweetspot, once you have found it behold...

What makes you say that the depth is fucked up? Once again, find the sweetspot and you should be fine...

I have no port noise whatsoever on mine!

@ Pom, I think the A&X are actually better than the A7, the highs there seem to be indeed a bit harsh!

I have said it before, I am saying it again, the Adams A7X translate very well to any other system, hifi or PA !!!

I did not like the A8X nearly as much, they lack in clarity!

a friend have the a8x and happy with.. imo these monitors a7x and a8x are in league where it s possible to get really good result .. to me the room matter more anyway than what monitors used as long as it s decent we can adapt.. (but no low end stuff ! my first pair of monitors i enjoyed it but as soon as i upgraded in the more serious league even my first mix was way better..)

I haven't heard any A.X models. Maybe they are better indeed, more balanced.

In the A7 model I had there was a port noise in only one of the speakers. Makes it even more weird..

Highs probably tastes issue, I don't like them. That's personal. I know people who don't like them also. And this thing they claim it plays up to 50 kHz. What for? Why do you need that kind of 'enhancement' if no other system is able to reproduce that, not to say you can only frighten bats with it. Maybe it even makes sound worse at some point

I told I have heard Eve's monitors recently and I can say that they are a big step forward for their developer Mr. Roland Stenz in the budget monitor line.

Yes, that has been eliminated in the A7X!

I have not checked out Eve yet, maybe I am a male chauvinist
As to the 50khz, I don't care about that, I just know that my mixes sound spot on since I have the A7X.
And yes, the X model has had quite a few upgrades it seems and the highs are indeed less harsh!           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

its completly absurd that someone can state that a pair of monitors are better than others just because you "tested them on a store"

you need to known well the monitors and the enviroment were your listening, besides that, one thing is how a monitor sound in a store when is brand new... and how it sound effectivly in your studio

i am not going to claim which monitor is better than an other...

i am pretty sure that Dynaudio and Adam and a couple of other model´s are the best under 1000, and you have to expend about 3 times more to really, really go into a higher level
working with brands like barefoot and so on...
