So here's my Xara review....

this is my fourth year doing this, and the Xara vibe has remained the same as previous years. The land is like a paradise for me. You can feel free to do whatever....there is hiking, lakes, and dancing and lots of friends. The other stages were pretty cool but not my thing. The main stage had fire and drum performances (which I'm just not really impressed with anymore after years of exposure...IOW been there done that)....they were cool but I mostly just lived at the psytrance stage.

Thanx to all the artists and djs who played.....definitely impressive. I was dancing most of the time. I have to say that my favorite set there was DEVIC! This guy plays the craziest shit, alot of tracks I've never heard before. This guy needs to play at more parties, there is no reason to keep this dj talent a secret. Its all about the track selection. Thanx to Wichdokta, Moksa, Zorin, and Predator for traveling so far to come....I really enjoyed all your sets! Treavor Moontribe, Treavor Wyse, and Brian Rae had really groovy sets that had all the burners present shaking their asses. Dai and Konflux had nice full-on sets, thanx for coming! Prophei and Psytrip.....watch out for these live acts from the LBC....they just keep getting better, with Psytrip leaning towards full-on and Prophei with a little more trippy sound. Its good to see live acts that utilize mostly hardware. All in all...I heard everyone's set and everybody played really great.

Brad and Sivan of Network 23 are the best....I would even go as far as to say that they are the shit.....period.

Some interesting occurrences at this festival:

*After wandering for days, an illegal immigrant stumbled upon my stage asking for water and the nearest city. My stage was on the very outside of the property on the wilderness side, less than 5 miles from the border. I had him escorted to the front gate where they took care of him. Not that I'm supportive of illegal immigration, but I felt bad for the guy.

*Sunday morning predator was the second to last DJ scheduled to play (5am - 7am). It wasn’t until I had to take a nap half way through predators set that an angry burner came up and told the dj to turn off the sound. One of my partners handled him and sent him on his way. About a half-hour later, the border patrol and the police came to my stage asking to turn down the sound, claiming that they could hear it 20 miles away. After disappointing predator, they proceeded to the other end of the 160-acre property to harass another stage, and ended up ticketing a DJ for loudness after some arguments. 30 minutes after that, one of the main organizers of the event asked us to turn off the sound to avoid more authoritative harassment, right as the last DJ was going on. Sorry about that, mr dropzone.

One more thing to add:
After seeing Xara's reaction to psytrance this year, I'm not all that sure that burners really enjoy psytrance for the most part. We had alot of dancers, but they wouldnt stay for more than an hour, and alot of them only stayed and danced for like 15 min, then moved on. But whatever, I'm still gonna try and convert burners to psytrance, just gotta keep pushing it, which is why I have been doing this every year.

that’s all I feel like saying right now....maybe some more will come as I recover

Xara was awesome!! thanks for having me Bodhi! Shame that at some point i was worried about my school assignment due on...blablabla...no excuses please! slience moment in the morning was very interesting, though I left..that was not a smart move obviously...I was going to come back for wild saturday night but I was never able to make it out...I missed meeting new people who traveledfarto come...agh..but freakin Xara!! I really felt like being a part of burning man......various sounds were coming from multi-direction onece stepping out from the dancefloor...and some elements like woods with leading light on the walking path and such remind me of solstice Japan mount fuji party. It was great seeing my favorite people at such a great environment...big thanks to poeple who involved...especiallyto psycircle organizing psytrance stage! and glad to hear major prop to my neighbor Devic...

Wow! There was sooo much going on. I think all the stages had trouble keeping people for any length of time. I know we moved from area to area and danced in most of them, but never stayed in one place for more than a few songs. Yes, there were lots of fire dancing (all good!) but there were some incredible performances as well. In particular, I loved the Lion and Dragon dance that the Phoenix Projekt put on (if anyone knows the name of the tune they danced to, I'd love to know!). Even the guy with the tuba added a different and fun element to the show.

I enjoy meeting people and this was no exception. I met many people who didn't know what psytrance was but were wowed by it when they went to check it out. I think there were a few converts. I also enjoyed the some of the house, funk and progressive trance that was being played. Everyone had something to offer to the event and contributed in their own way - I like that.

But I still kept coming back to the psytrance stage where I'm always sure to meet up with many of the best friends a guy can have.           Laughter is the shape that darkness took around the first appearance of light.

Thanks for inviting me to this one, Bodhi. I felt very comfortable in the "Enchanted Grove" forest-type setting. Xara was a lot of fun. Lot of cool camps. Met some cool people too. It's has been quite an adventure for me. On the way to Xara, I missed the Monastry and almost reached Mexico, and turned back to come back to the Monastry.

At Xara, I managed to lock myself out of my car and with help of the organizers (Mark & Auggie), managed to unlock my car.

And, on the way to SD, the BSF decided to stop me of all the cars. Thankfully, I had my papers on me and it was a quick check. At first they were surprised that this "mexican-looking" guy spoke good english and after looking at my passport, they realized that I was from India. My heart definately skipped a beat when he asked me to pull over.

I wish I could have stayed for all the 4 days. That would have been quite an experience with the golfing going on there and the sheriff showing up. But, definately, next year.

peace,

i wish i heard your set, devic. i didn't make it until friday night.

i had a weird weekend that's for sure. i think that this event has grown into too much of a "dry run" for burning man camps because there were 13 or 14 music stages going almost at all times.

xara only knew about 7 or 8 of them in advance so people just decided to set up their own stages in the middle of the campground.

i think people were too spread out to really enjoy any particular type of thing. the fire show from phoenix projekt was pretty cool, but like bodhi said, its the same old same old fire show. if you've seen one, you've seen 'em all.

mutaytor was their typical shitty selves, nothing too special except for the drum circle on stage.

i feel that this event has completely turned itself away from being a music event and more of a social event for the burners to test out their theme camps before the playa, nobody really dances too much at this thing anymore and there were actual people complaining about having sound on after 2 am. its becoming more and more of a geriatric rave because the ticket price is so high. people come out in their RV's and sleep for the whole weekend.

i don't know, there was a good vibe and i met a lot of really happy people which was the #1 positive i got out of this weekend. as far as a music event goes, i didn't really enjoy it too much because every sound stage was really close, except for the trance stage which felt like it was 2 miles away from the rest of the event.

Brian Rae had some good funky stuff and it was a pleasure to see mr wyse play some proggy trance again! moksa and zorin are great guys and i hope we can get them to perform out here again. witchdokta and treavor moontribe played great sets, bodhi's new tunes sounded awesome on brad's system and the lasers were a nice touch.

i just wish that all of the good performers had more than 10 people dancing in front of them, and this was at every stage. it was disappointing from a dj perspective, but as an attendee, there was just too much going on to really give attention to anything for more than a few minutes.
We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

thanks for the kind words Bodhi...I had a blast ...what a beautifull with a capital B place.

Over all I'd say things would have been better with less stages or more people but non the less I had a great time... saturday night was fun times hangin with old friends and enjoying a nice hot fire. Really the weather was perfect for an outdoor party.... just cold enough at night to wear some warm cloths and have soem fire near by ...and just warm enough by day to walk in a t shirt with comfort.

Keep up the good work gang ... I know I'm just comming up in the scene but still (from this perspective) I must say I'm proud of you guys and the achievements you and tom have been making musically. P.S. it seems like mr dropzone made a very killer progressive track as well, unfortunately I only heard 1/2 of it before the man rained on our parade. Thanks for having me out much appreciated.

Dropzone is becoming a very talented progressive psy producer, and he has been a great DJ of prog-psy for a long time. If it wasnt for the man, he would have torn it up....but at least he got to play on thursday. If anyone wants demos of his mixes or tracks contact me......and he will be releasing on some nice labels soon;)

Ya know....if they had less stages at this event it would have been more concentrated at the remaining stages. But oh well, maybe next year, at least I had around 50 people dancing for Treavor Moontribe.....which with the exception of the main plaza, that was probably the most people at one time out of any stage....despite the 1000 people attendance! I should start a new thread called: "you know you're a burner when......"
and then start listing things like...."you go to bed at a party at 12midnight" or "you're over 40 and you wear a tutu and a fuzzy cowboy hat" and so forth.           info/tourdates/psy

you know you're a burner when...

- you have the attention span of a goldfish... and FUZZY! is every fifth thought

- you buy a five room tent to use 10 days out of the year

- you holler OMG ITS THE PARTY POLICE!! WHERE ARE YOUR TEAR-AWAY PANTS?! at Sheriff's Deputies that have decided to let you keep your sound system.....

dont get me wrong... I'm not bagging ( just ot clarify) ...I'm just saying that given the geography of the place and the amount of people allowed onto the property... a few less stages would have made it go off more. You did everything you could do considering the circumstances, besides there were no flame throwers on your stage hahaah. that was so funny when trevor and I were playing ...we built up a nice dance floor and then the flame throwers on the "main stage" went up in a blaze...I remeber thinking...there goes my dance floor...I think trevor felt the same ehehe. Like scott said ...the attention span of a shrew...but then again they are nice and harmelss people, for the most part. Dont feel bad about lack of crowd...I think people weren't partying at any of the camps... I swear I had no idea where everyone was. Peace

I couldnt agree more that if there were less stages it would have been much better.
But it was a fun experience, Next stop Mexico?           https://www.djjeto.com
