Well, since no one posted anything yet I´ve got to ask: what are we planning on discussing here? I mean, what fits in the description of world music? Examples?

the green channel, if you consider there was a chillout & world music stage at samothraki, you can formulate a linkage. at various other psytrance festivals, world music acts take place. For me, it would be a huge category. I like to think of it as artists which add native musical influences and beats into their music.           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

Well, if you just read the description below the section's name....

"Ethnic vibes from around the world"

What does it do here?

It's what a lot of the people we know like to chillout with...

And this is what our new chillout zone is all about

some the artists listed are profoundly representatives of what we call ethnic music...           Minds are just like parachutes. They only work when they are open. :)

Great artists, klaxer! Especially Zakir Hussain, Goran Bregovic and Afrocelt.

I'm quite surprised that there's a world music section in this forum.
Some world music could be considered as Ambient or New Wave, and since Ambient has some sort of a conncetion with psytrance, consequently, I suppose, world music was given thoughts.
Though, I wouldn't refer to Shpongle as World music.
On the other hand, Our Friend klaxer gave some great examples of world music.
Here are some more: Najma, Rajna, Vlatko Stefanovski, Mychael Danna (he made some beautiful soundtracks for Indian films, such as "Monsoon Wedding" and "Kama Sutra", as well as some beautiful Celtic music with Jeff Danna), Ali Farka Toure, Dikanda, Nihon Daiko, Inti Illimani, Mustafa Al Sunni, Ravi Shankar and loads of Celtic artists.

Cheers.

You forgot to mention great Tuva artists - Huun-Hur-Tuu & Yat-kha!!!
And Dead Can Dance is excellent example of world music!
