there are so many tracks made a year, and so many of them are never heard by lots of people... there are many old tracks that are 'new' cuz people on the dancefloor havnt heard them....

do DJs play for other DJs or do they play for the dancefloor? the new track game seems to be one that is just between DJs

this is a subject that has been beaten to death, in my opinion. i really dont think it matters how new or old the music is. if its good, play it. they'll enjoy it.

people who need to play the newest songs are those who also need the newest gear. its about being ahead of everyone.

personally, i dont care. i'd like to hear music, not turn it into a debate on why the dj is playing the songs he is playing. enjoy what you hear, dont complicate.           The IsraTrance MySpace Group:

I know for a fact that DJs play for other DJs, and that is a large problem in this scene for sure.

Hell, even I'm guilty of it from time to time. There are several reasons why it happens. First off, DJs are usually booked by other DJs (or at least heavy psytrance enthusiasts), not by representatives of the silent majority - the dancers - the crowd. Secondly, listening to as much psy as we do, we can get tired of music faster than those who aren't keeping up, who aren't (as) obsessed.

There's a balance to be struck in there somewhere... I'm at least glad that I'm not as bad as some particularly pernickity DJs as far as new track selection goes, but I do enjoy breaking something new on an audience here at home. I think it's fine if you get away from playing new stuff just for the sake of it being new - that doesn't make much sense to me. But when something fresh comes out that I can tell is a top-notch song, I'm sure to want to drop it ASAP

(as long as the DJ and the crowd are not fed up of the track, i don't see a problem here.... it's just a question of delivering a fresh set)           www.LebaneseRavers.com | Raving beyond borders

its understandable to play a new song because you are excited about it and want people to hear it. but there is a fine line. it becomes very clear when a dj starts playing to show/grow his "status."           The IsraTrance MySpace Group:

DJ's also play older tracks regulary, listen to livesets from Markus Schulz, Taucher, James Holden for instance. Sometimes older tracks do come in because the DJ thinks they're fitting for the style of the set at that moment. I know I do it... hehehe So you might be playing some progressive song like: Eelke Kleijn - Travelling, and after that you put James Holden - Nothing (93 Returning Mix), which has a lot of the same atmosphere, but it's a 2003 song. Get it? And hey, every DJ wants to play new tracks, and preferably to that point unreleased tracks It's a DJ-thing.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. dissect this question and find the parallels to our consumer soceity, that's where the answer lies.
is it not like a brand new pair of nike's? why does everyone rush to get the new plasma tv's? same story diffrent animal.

i dont have any unreleased tracks because they havent been released yet, and im not connected enough to get that many new tracks. i just stick to high quality released tracks from 2001-2005. if you play for djs+ the crowd than the music better be WAVZ because if not you fukn sucknfucknsuck. hehe my two cents on the subject. a well balanced, evolving set that moves the floor should impress any dj in the audience.           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

Its all about showing off who has the 'best' music and how quickly someone can get it. I couldnt care less to make any 'contacts' to obtain any of it. I stick to what's already released. Works out better for me that way.. enjoy trance all the same.

Good music is good music, doesn't matter how old it is, so long as it fits into the style of the set.           Turn On, Tune In, Trance Out!!!

Exactly full lotus, that's the truth. Professional Dj's, who are well respected from all people (dj's or not), exhibit a wide spectrum of music, and not only the same style/tempo/label/year of release tracks. No one "has" the best music. No one can claim music. It is there for all, and the one who can find the right "coordinates" in a party, or has something to "propose" rather than a typical BOOmBeatBOOmBeat, then he gets the work done.           Bring yourselves into the light

Very cool topic.. perso, i like when i get a couple of new unreleased because it add's diversity to my sets. Its something i can offer that few others can offer and i see it as a slight advantage over other djs that play only released material. As much as its not a competition out there, when you have a scene with like 100 local psytrance dj's, you just have to find an edge somewhere.

With that said, i'll never think twice about playing older tracks in a set either. i play the music that i love, the tracks i find awsome or appropriate at the moment. And there is no timeline for me to "not play" that track anymore. Maybe if i heard the track at every single party for the last three months i won't play that track again because people might be sick of hearing it. I still play tracks from the first Spirallianz album, sometime some older 3D Vision stuff, it all doesn't really matter to me how old the music is.

Enjoy..           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! (techtrance invasion) ---> http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/86303/forum/9
