Maybe because it's all such a forumla these days that trancers won't open up to a CD starting with something different, or having different non-trance tracks in the middle of it.

When I compiled my first compilation I had to argue with the label manager and a lot of "industry" people who thought I must put the strongest track in the beginning, while I was more interested to tell a story and started with a 129bpm funky track and saved the "big hit" to the end of the CD.

There are exceptions to the last track is chillout formula, however, there are enough examples.

I have to admit, Shahar, that I used to play almost all the tracks off that comp in the order you had them, ending my set with the last track (Cosma : Out Of Range (Son Kite remix)). You had a great flow on that comp. which is what made it so good.

I remember it was always a treat to hear the last track on an artist album as it was usually chillout. I'm glad Cosmosis did that with his latest release. Very nice chillout track. nice guitar work.

The chillout track in the end is to have a calm and relaxed ending. Is it necessairy? I don't know, but a nice change and surprise.

Another reason for artist closing their album with downtempo track is that apart from wanting to make us hear that they're good in (Fullon, psychedelic, cheesy call it whatever you want) but also want to show their ability to produce ambient/downtempo but these tracks you don't always find them at the end of an album but somtimes even in the middle of an album!
Why not!

A downtempo track anywhere ina album is fina as long as it is produced by the same artist..
But in an compilation the downtempo track is made by somebody unknown most of the times....
May be hearing that name for the first time...

Yeah! Why only the last one? Why not all the tracks are different?

Sorry, couldn't resist that...

It could be nice, though, admit it...

i like it when a compilation ends with a quality chillout tune. nothing worse than when a pretty mad compilation ends off going mental and then the cd just ends. sort of leaves you with a hint of discomfort. i personally love it when it ends off with something difference and down tempo. not all cds are like this though. eskimo - take a look out there ends off with the mental 155bpm Let it all out, which it gets away with because its quite a different style of psy, bloody crazy as hell, but still good.

i think the first nine tracks of a compilation are peices of the same puzzle......the last track may be offbeat or diffrent or maybe the djs baby........an effort to show versatality........or maybe an indication of what is to come.........

we need some djs to answer this.........enough speculation......enlighten us.....

The weak thing is when it is done... ehm.. as a formula. So.. A single "different" track may (in my mind) sound like something that "had to" be done..

That's why albums like the new Opsis, or especially Blowfish are very interesting.. But the best examples are in the Elektro genre.. Albums released by Elektrolux or the sublabel Mikrolux have several "levels" of I'll say sound design..

I mean you have some danceable stuff, some more chilled, some obviously experimental, beatless transitions, short "fun" sessions, and so on..

This is something that seriously lacks in the Psytrance scene nowadays, which is much more conventional not to say conservative than some would like us to believe..

Artists !! Gimme psychedelic experimentations !!

(wink to Commander Tom hehe, big up to the ones who'll know the track I'm thinking of..)           .

yeah, i wish that someone would throw a 100% experimental psychedelic party. with 100% totally experimental music. take track 9 of every single good psy album out there and throw a party with just that. because it will be so...different and unexpected...wouldnt that maybe bring back that magical psychedelic element that was lost?

just a thought.

I agree

what do you think about : 50% trance & 50% chill out into a solo artist album ?
