Why is every compilation average??????

It seems to me a pattern has emerged in the last 12 months, and it really annoys me.
Why are there only 1-2 great tracks and 2-3 average tracks on a compilation?
How hard is it to put a kick-ass compilation together?
The last compilation I can think of that comes anywhere near great is think sync... over 12 months ago!!!!!!!
This is intended to be a constructive post and if the labels are worried about sales and the mp3 bug, then I think this is a point worth noting.
I have been buying cds for 2 years and have spent thousands of $$$, yet it really aggravates me to get 4 new cds and have maybe 10 tracks that are worthy of playing in a party.
If there were more quality tracks on each cd, I think this may help to improve sales... of course I am assuming most people are good citizens and actually purchase cds 
What do you guys think? |

I don't know, but maybe because the labels sell too few cds these days, and good tracks are expensive..., so the labels can not afford more than a couple of expensive tracks for a compilation.

what we need is an itunes stylee psy downloads shop, where you can just pick and choose individual tracks...
and buy those 1-2 killer tracks per compilation.
its a good point coombaya, a symptom maybe that this sort of way of buying music is becoming about due...?

Because Twisted Records doesn't release compilations too often

In a nutshell..
Due to increased mp3 swapping the sales have gone down yet there are certain people who buy everything from their favourite labels. So more releases = more sales = more money = less work and easy living for the label manager.

Why? Cause everybody thinks he's an artist, cause everybody opens up a label, cause everybody wants a piece of the cake, this is why.
Almost no originality left in trance music. Boring copied/paste tunes.
Sorry for sounding so gloomy, but unfortunately this is reality.

There are labels releasing good stuff as well,recently I get surprised nicely with the fabula records compilation "Ultrapop","Wingmakers" from dragonfly is nice,normally the people from Neurobiotic with a high standard,and recently many amazing proggy comps. in labels like:ZMA,Iboga,Groove Zone and stuff like that...all depends on your taste,if you look you'll find.

Actually I didn’t found ”Shpongle Remixed” much better than the average compilation, so in my opinion it also applies to Twisted. But of course that’s a matter of taste.

well i guess i am biased towards chemical crew...but i certainly do think the compilation of chemcial crew together..zoo3 was awesome..it had the best collection of the all the artists under the same banner....this way the compilation is better coz everythin is inhouse...and am not too sure about the new one "mafia" it is supposed to be really good too...so that way it makes better sense if the compilations are made by the label with all the artists who r under the label this way the best of the best is brought out....
