it's no wonder the majority of doofs have the same 40 people and never any new young crowd when the scene is as welcoming as this guy

But without the 30 yr old chin strokers there'd be no one left!

The attitudes in this thread are just all a case of same old, it's all become so cliche, and the assumptions rarely vary either, but it doesn't stop these discussions from happening. An affinity for or against a particular style seems to make some people think they are cool, I have news for you, it doesn't.

Also how long you've been into psy does not dictate what you will necessarily enjoy. Tastes change with time and how people hear music changes too, mine went into more complex and more layered sounds, others i know went to more chilled/relaxed/minimal sounds.

Neither taste is invalid, neither is 'better', it's personal preference. If you don't like something don't go telling someone who does that what they like is no good and they shouldn't like it. It's really quite simple, just don't listen to it then if it's really such a problem, no ones forcing you to, and if an event is on which features it, no one is forcing you to go either!

In a separate point, it would be nice if people were however genuinely open minded and were not allergic to sampling new sounds, as one problem the Australian scene does seem to often suffer from (at least from my experiences / knowledge) is thrashing the same old. But this point is not something specific to 'dark' , 'minimal', electro or whatever music.

In my travels i've had the chance to be exposed to an even greater range of sounds that fall within the 'psychedelic' scene, as well as had the opportunity to share my sound with many who've never really or rarely heard it before, and I can say that preconceptions and misconceptions can be dispelled when people have the opportunity to hear things for themselves.

So if there was less resistance to breaking with the status quo and if a greater range of 'psychedelic' sounds were mixed up with the existing formula it would satisfy those who enjoy things as they presently are but also keep things fresh and provide for the varied tastes that make up the Aussie community.

jus curious bout why most of the people prefer more of full on morning and electro funk here more than the night music.i was wondering bout this topic coz i see a majority of morning and electro funk or "weird" (wateva u guys call it , it sux)artist play in festivals and gigs than the few dark artist.

We do it to deter 20-year-old moron backpackers who've been listening to psy for two years and think they are H A R D C O R E and know it all. *cough*

that's a pretty retarded post.. Wtf does how long you've been listening to psy got to do with how valid your tastes are? it doesnt's take 10 years of listening to psy to decide you don't like a particular style. pretty sure i hated dnox and beckers and the likes horrible brand of electro psy the second i heard it.

And to be honest i'd take a dancefloor full of 20 year old backpackers who actually want to party over a bunch of 30 year old jaded tools who just stand around chin stroking

For the record I think D-Nox, Beckers and their ilk are completely boring.

But this guy's been ranting and raving about how if you don't listen to "killlaaaah" then you're not psychedelic/hardcore/whatever - the same tired argument from everyone who came down in the last psy shower and wants to prove themselves.

I'm no chin stroker, love a rocking dance floor as much as the next guy, but ask a stupid question and you get a stupid answer.

ya even i realized .. australia doesnt have any good music except in byron bay.

also saw people in really scared to take acid. most of the people i met in parties were superficial beer drinking pill poping people.

melb was full of cheese .. electro psy.. judaism spreading in aus hehehe..

sydney - no parties

for me there is no dark or morning music.. its either psychedelic or non psychedelic.. i think people call psychedelic music as dark music..

if people start taking more acid in aus .. sure they will like so called dark music

and I think we actually get more dark music in melbs than in byron. Some of the parties I've been to there recently have been morning trance/full on the entire time. but in melbourne over the past few months we've had plenty of lineups with hours of dark music throughout the night.
(hefty output and pondscum have been playing lots of gigs lately, incidently both of these acts hail from melbourne....)

I agree - and with the premiere event about to hit us for the darker styling's of music - Royal Doof, i think Melb definatly holds its own in the dark side of Trance.

Mind you - Byron Bay does hold a tiny share of the dark market - and hopefully with a new label about to release its first compilation in a months time - this can also change.

Also - some more fantastic Dark acts that come out of Melbourne are: Sychophant, Bufferzone, Decibel (has released a few darker tracks), IOS etc etc etc

hmm.. i was just writting about my impresion.. was back packing alone.. and dint know about these web sites.. and dint know the right people. but really enjoyed my travel there.. dint really care about parties also .. i was busy enjoying the country and the friendly people.

would like to visit again this time. i will try to stay more in one place and enjoy the aus psy ..

i loved the australian scene (mainly cos of the crowd...but not only!!)

my 2 cents:
in aus you have one of the best settings for psy:
-a climate and space for unlimited open air parties....
-a very big crowd for being soo few in the continent....and great vibes......young mixed with old......
-i must say i was impressed by the amount and quality of psychotropic substances......(especially impressed by the smoking of chilums with good stuff etc...hehe)

but:
- def. a morning oriented crowd......more oriented towards prog electro rather than full on.........and people def. have a big preconception about night time psychedelic madness.....(too close minded...imho)
-costs of parties (even if all legal...which assures they can continue in the future) are way too expensive.....for the quality of music involved.....i.e. no big names from abroad....(average party)
with soo much space you still need permits authorization taxes etc.....???

i feel that the scene has soo much potential to be how this underground culture (the trance culture) really should be......!!
but the music and general organization is way too westernized....commercial....to really achieve something....
without getting anyone excited (and im not bringing any racial issues) i would concentrate the idea of a party more on the aboriginal spirit for tribal rituals......
also in music you preferred following the west rather than your country's roots....?!

bholenath!!

with so much space, yes, we very much fucking do need all those permits. Would you prefer it was like Israel where every fucking party gets shut down? Fuck that! The problem with the prices is that most of the punters in the trance scene are fucking hippy scum who think that the fucking "universe" should supply everything to them on a plate. Do you have any idea what it fucking costs to run a party legally in Australia?!? As for "night time psychedelic madness", get some fkn Nam Shub up ya!!! & regarding trance culture being "underground" - 1 word.. SKAZI!!           new Hadal Drop album on the way

chill out tiger..
no need to get excited....and use that tone

ive partied in many countries and was merely giving my opinion on the aussie psy scene.....its not to show better or worse is just a comparison...
if you cant accept what your scene is about....then thats your problem...just be a little more realistic because what you call hippie scum are the ones you have to thank for having doofs.....with skazi on stage if you like him soo much....!(dunno know if the news reached oz but skazi is not psytrance anymore...)

as for fk nam shub up ya......."To be conscience that you are ignorant is a great step to knowledge"

"its not to show better or worse is just a comparison"

"... how this underground culture (the trance culture) really should be"

you're giving us your opinion of the way things "should be"

I'm giving you my opinion of why they shouldn't. But you obviously know so much, I should respect that. Really sorry. Bom & all that other cliche bullshit           new Hadal Drop album on the way
