WHERE WILL PSY TRANCE BE IN THE FUTURE?

IMO, I don't think psytrance could ever become very commercially popular (in the sense of pop/metal bands selling hundreds of thousands of albums). If anything, it is too abstract. It is not something that you can sing along to, the tracks are too long (commercial hits need to be short for radio play), etc. And most of all, synth geeks don't look good for posters on teenagers' walls.

I could see elements of psytrance being incorporated into more popular styles (much like what has been done with "electronica"), but that is probably the extent of it. I also could see a certain upper echelon of producers getting more into movie soundtracks (ie, Juno Reactor), but it is probably going to be more the artists that experiment with styles outside of the typical dancefloor style.

Honstly, though, if an artist I liked did attain some monster level of commercial popularity, it wouldn't affect whether or not I liked them. At least they would be successful making the music I like.

My personal opinion is that I would like to see psy take on more of a funky influence. Specifically, I would absolutely love to see dancefloor psy-breaks come back in a big way. The psy-breaks that was coming out in 97-99 was truly groundbreaking and some of the most creative, innovative music that I have heard. There is still a tiny amount released nowadays, but it is so little and still just on the fringes. I would love to hear more artists experiement with the breakbeat (ala Ticon's track "It Breakz my Heart"). It is one of the few directions that has been widely unexplored in the modern psy scene, and I think there is much that could come out of it.

Artists, please give it a shot.

But that is a personal opinion....and I am a breakbeat fiend.

Junya... Junya...
whats the difference?
if you'll give me something to hear and i love it... i wont give a damn if its commercialld or not... ill still love it. i think that this is more about glory and what other ppl think about it wich is not interesting me 2...
so wont you preffer it to be underground?

and some of you wrot that the trance like 5-6 years ago is not like the trance today... true but not sad!
do you dress like you dressed 6-5 years ago?
do you know the same things that you know now 5-6 years ago?
change is not a bad thing. i can give you a long long list of good quelity new stuff...

now, my answare for you question Junya is that it will always be with some changes. Inffected mushroom use to be an Underground to... so there will always be an underground. i dont think that the scene will be commercialld but sure big parts of it.
and if it will be like you want to, some extars that you dont want will be added... like more money.. drees codes.. shimonim... and all that...

in my opinion... to hard for me to explaine
i want it to be a bunch of ppl who love to digggg

krelm, im wishing for the 97-99 breakfloors 2 , but not just the music... the spirit of the ppl

(sorry about my bad English)

boom.

THANK YOU,

I think that some of you misunderstood my point>

Ifell the same way about an artist if they were what is called commercial. My intrest in their music would stay the same if not be bigger....I am happy to see that the majority of you agree with my point. I want tracne to be commercial.

BUT, it will never DOMINATE the charts, I just want it in a comfortable place in the dance music industry!!!!!!!!!

All the best>>>>Junya

just compare the trance scene with early flower power rock days in the late 60s - Hendrix experimented, Janis Joplin pushed the envelope - they remain artists who continue to sell today in some classic rock racks in the music stores.....therefore someone may discover Infected Mushroom in 2003 thanks to a commercial on MTV and then go buy back albums of the artist from a store - Duvdev and Izen may then become highly mainstream artists (recognized by most people etc.)- but then that doesn't take away from the fact that they gave their bit to the trance lover in the early days.

Junya - you are right. trance artists will inevitably make it to the mainstream by virtue of the fact that the number of people getting into it is increasing everyday. Keep the faith, my friend!

And to answer the original question, of course if my favourite artist had a number 1 hit i would still like him (if his style continued the same).

@ traveller - till ppl will think this way trance sure will continue and stuck.
if u ask me trance evolved very much last years, but most of the ppl just dont want face it.
and i dont need "to think", i was there to hear it.

I think you misunderstood what i wrote... what i meant was that i would still like an artist as long as his style continued to be psytrance.
And of course psytrance has evolved much in the last years...

I still think psytrance will never become mainstream, nor even close to that.
Maybe in israel trance is more mainstream, but here most people say it's "druggie music"... and i think the mentality doesn't change much in european countries/usa
