I am always interested to see when people think and want the psytrance scene to go in the future.

It is really interesting that a bunch of people who listen to to the same music,go to the same sort of parties and know everyone in the scene through one friend or another, would like the scene to end up.

I personaly would love the scene to get commercial.NOW befor you all say what is this guy talking about, let me try to explain.

When people hear the world commercial they automaticaly think, cheezy melodies, housey beats and somone singing. Think of it like this,If the more darker side of trance was really really popular would you think that as commercial? Yes it is easy to say that GMS, Astrix, Space cat, Infected Mushroom ect ect,
are commercial but that is only because their tracks have aspects in them that are also in music that is very popular!

At the end of the day, the name commercial is only a word that has put a mind set into everyones head but ask yourself if your favorite artist in the scene had a number one hit world wide,Would that change the way you think about their music?

Please reply,I am really interested in what you think!!!!!

All the best>>>>junya

I agree, and i disagree ........
I thing it's good that psy-trance is getting more commercial, but not to that degree. If music is good then it's good. So if my favorite artist made a box office succes, and it was in the same style as his previous releases, i would proberly like it.           "Love is a way of life"

Look at metal. All of a sudden dark metal bands like Korn, Tool and Deftones became really popular and commercial. I always had friends who were like "they've sold out bla bla" but i agree if the music's good i couldnt care less if it sells 10 copies or 1 million.

I think of it like this - the more commercial the scene gets, the more people will go back underground and make experimental stuff. As far as I care, GMS and their clones should sell double platinum records, and the MPDQX mafia will kick out the prog house scene from the clubs.

That way acts that want to be experimental won't even try going in that path. Just like Dream Theater are trying to keep on doing their own thing in spite of the massive success of other metal bands, and make great music (with less and less touches of 'mainstream' metal), a successful psytrance scene would also give birth to acts which could allow themselves to be experimental, staying outside the normal path to success while enjoying it all the same.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

the parties scene would be destroyed if such thing happend.
but with this bad situation the scene is in lately (financially) i think that this is essential for keeping it alive.           REHAB is for quitters

I think psytrance music will NEVER be commercial.
Only about 10% of the people i know like/understand psytrance... the rest look at me like an alien when they find out which kind of music i like and just say "weirdo music, confuses my brain".

The only way to get commercial is through acts like Quirk... but i wouldn't classify that as psytrance, neither as progressive psychedelic trance, but simply as progressive (trance).

And to answer the original question, of course if my favourite artist had a number 1 hit i would still like him (if his style continued the same).

Zombi: Or they just move to prog house and don't admit that they didn't really like psytrance for any reason other than to be 'underground' for all those years... some even fail to admit that even when they define a psy track as good because it does what prog house does.

Stop with these stereotypes, as the ones I can stick to you aren't any less degrading.

Back to the subject - psytrance will probably never be much more than a fad in the mainstream world (remember MWNN?) and then disappear again, but I'm hoping that there's still a chance to break the scene up to experimental and 'standard' parts, as I'd definately go for the experimental side (already starting to happen with all of the fanatics of the music from Finland that can barely stand other types of trance usually). Then again, 1200 mics have more than a few clubtrance touches to them already (adding distortion and a lowpass doesn't make something 'psy'), and this trend which started out as part of the progressive scene is moving towards the full-on scene as well.

Ohh well, I'll stop bitching now.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

What? You think the trance that was made 5 or 10 years ago sounds the same than the trance that is made today? I don't think so... it has changed very extremly much if you ask me..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

Same Same but different. To me it is exactly the same pattern but the technology have evolved as well as the mixing skills of the producers .

I hope psy trance gets commerciall even go to the top of the pops and i do a Shakira remix and smash hotel rooms

For me the ultimate success of an artist is to make quality music that can appeall to everyone. e.g. R.E.M. you can not brand them commercial but they hane multi platinum albums.

Now seriously it would do no harm to the scene to become commercial , most of labels are struggling to survive and the only people who make money out of the trance scene are party promoters or drug dealers.
Music media&press attention would only benefit the scene, cd sales will rise, quality of production will increase, e.t.c.

Somebody mention korn deftones e.t.c (dark metal???? i do not think so) do you know how they become so popular in the U.S.A.? From a network of distributing FREE promotional gear (stickers, posters,t shirts, promo cd&tapes, and other gimmicks) to high schools and colleges around the country.

The soundtrack of the first matrix had marilin manson declaring rock is dead, the new matrix have juno reactor maybe we are becoming mainstream in the future lol
