Well this is just mho, but I guess that now with Vst's evolving so fast and leaving the crude limited analogic sounds we learnt to love, trading them for organic complex harmonic rich sounds with advanced synthesis techniques (FM, Physical modelling, Phase Modeling, Wave transformation, Additive, Granular, Hybrid synthesis, etc) Psychedelic music will become more and more organic/complex and less electronic sounding, I also think that we've used and abused multiples of 4 to produce music, so different rythms created with triplets or swinged rythms will start to appear more and more (as they have already on minimal techno which again imho it's getting very psychedelic these days) I also think that music will become more live and unpredictable than before thanks to the advances in technology.

And finally I guess that influence from other styles will heavily affect music of the future as it has always did, right now you can recognize in all styles, sounds, techniques or progressions that were trademark of one style years ago

Hi, this is one of my favourites subject, still a good question. But I have some ideas about it.

I believe the changes will not come from ideas like “bass line” style, “bpms” more faster or slower or then to go deep extremities of styles like dark or progressive was cited. It would have more style of bass line to be discovered? Therefore with the sounds most progressive (bass lines more marked) or traditional fullons(like 16/16 tempo), in terms of musical tempo already everything became that is possible. The textures still can move and this will make difference in this case.

Nowadays already it has covered a wide scale of bpms, if will be more low already it turns like chill out, ambient etc, if will be faster… I don’t know what to say, already music has 170 bpm or more! It will create something entirely new and good simply increasing bpm? I believe that not.

How a sound can be more dark of what already it is? How a sound can be more progressive of what already it is? I find that the newness does not go to be in the “extremities”. In this case perhaps that more sub-styles of sorts formed with the time (it is normal).

Before I believe we must expect to the new technologies of softwares, hardwares, computers, plug-ins VST etc. Without them is difficult to give a step forward, to go up to the next step. Then, prays to the companies to dedicate each more time to create new sounds, new instruments, new stuffs. Perhaps thus it appears new ideas for the artists.

I agree fully to some ideas posted here. Like Forza said, perhaps has more “natural” sounds, I cite an example, Shulman, where many times are difficult to say where is electronic where is acoustic instruments, and this is one of the points, imo, that make the sound of them has a “one step more”.

Two other ideas that I strongly believe are:

Quote:

Probably it will come from people who have experimented with entheogens and it is their "mission" to deliver some illuminating stories to the rest of the people.(once again)

This is certainty one of the path, imo of course, to see a considerable change in the psytrance music. It can be by means of entheogens, meditation, studies, does not matter as, but something that makes the person has insights and searchs inspiration in another reality, therefore in this materialistic reality the ideas is if depleting. So much that I believe that never it had as much influences of other styles (electro, house, minimal, techno etc) inside of trance as it happens nowadays. For the time being the inspiration is come of other styles, not mattering if it is a trend or not, that I see the question currently.

Quote:
My guess is that their will be a "movement" more on the techy side of things

I believe that it is the together movement and the technology! Perhaps that I believe that the movement weighs more, perhaps new thoughts, new ideas, new trends and only create a new objective, bringing then new ideas, that can also be rescued of the tribal roots of the humanity.

I believe that will be a mixture of this ideas and other things that we still don’t know, not yet.

As it was cited at the beginning of the topic, has always a time, some years, so that “jump” of styles occurs… I see that the music well similar have some years, we are in 2007, I believe that up to 2010 already it must have new projects with new proposals, bringing freshness for the trance scene … I hope.

New technology can definitely shift things in a new direction, however if we want the music to shift in a psychedelic direction then the change has to be a product of us raising our own consciousness and awareness to connect with higher psychedelic realms and dimensions.

the way forward for me would be minimal fused with techy and psychedelic atmospheres ....if that makes any sense

cant really comment on the future direction of electronic music ...there is so much variety already ....artists these days are breaking genre walls everyday with more and more force ....check out stuff on iboga for instance ...u have phony orphants with their 80's influenced sound, yuli with his psychedelic sounds and a lots more in terms of variety ....

some acts that i would consider revolutionary right now would be evan marc with his unique techy sounds and vibrasphere for always evolving and trying out new genre's yet maintaining the trademark vibrasphere sound ....

and lets not even get chillout into the topic ...what those guys are doing just manages to surprise me everytime ...check the new nagual sound experiment or music by artists like tipper, deadbeat etc.
