I was probably at the same festival as you were..
if we're talkin about BIGFOOT.

The whole scene was great actually, just enuf people ( tho there are never enuf women) and the music of choice was techy stuff a la Midmilz and Spirallianz. Played a lotta S.A styles too, the fast, screechy acidic funky style ( which i personally love).

We drove up from Detroit ( yay! the Hardest Crew!) and my buddy played a morning set which was totally different. yes it was full on ! yes he played Astrix. But it was a change! played some Protoculture,Wizzy Noise, Shanti and Electric Universe and Gataka which sounded like heaven with a beautiful sunrise, in contrast to bumchik-bumchik - Grrrr - Bumchik - bumchik - Meow. I cud tell u that the women loved it

I think the highlight for me was the last day when they played Ryan Halifax ( ahhhh!! ) and some ultimae stuff. Honestly, its sunny, ur grilling some Hotdogs, sipping a beer and just RELAXING. Fun-Fcukn-tastic!!!!

I guess teh drug of choice is LSD, so the agressive music fits right in . probably?

PSYCHOLOGICAL MARKERS OF PSYTRANCE PSYCHOSIS:

STAGE 1: Astonishment

STAGE 2: Mania

STAGE 3: Refinement

STAGE 4: Bewilderment (Disillusion)

STAGE 5: Reconcilation

I think i'm somwhere between phases 4 and 5.

We understand the "sounds the same" concept, this latest batch of twilight trance (semi-dark full-on) i've got all has a similar structure, sounds, tempo. Hallmarks of a definitive genre.

yes, this discussion comes up every week and there's at least one of us with a few spare minutes to quell the distressed soul. Besides I just want to exercise my new cable internet connection, now I don't need to leave the house, ever.

ooh, I think this "semi-dark full-on" should make a decision: are you with us or against us? remember, there is no gray, only black and white.

poo-bah!

well some of people here call it "dark trance", but when I hear it, it's not really that "dark": cpu, iron madness, twisted system, azax syndrom (a few exceptions here). That stuff is really the NRG music of the early 21 century. Still, its sounds very reminiscent of the full-on style that 3D Vision "pioneered" a few years ago. I think Absolum layed the mold down, and CPU has refined it. Some of that stuff Goa Gill played was darker, more sonically confusing, more samples, less virus synth. so you need to pardon my inept "semi-dark-trance" description.

As a STAGE 4/5 trancer, i'm balancing it all out with some Zenon Records stuff, also like the Tribal Vision Records release...I want to hear more of that at parties, and if someone doesn't pony up i'll do it myself. I think I was the only one at Burning Man 2004 playing Magnetrixx. It's all got the groove and sound tweaking too.

To answer your question: I'm with you...i'm your friend...i'm your saint...i'm your fucking beezlebub...i'm your very own G Dubya...i.m your worst nightmare...i am the toothfaery...although I can't back that up with paperwork.

it's all falling apart now.

yeah I totally agree - the artists you mention are the new NRG music. It's nice to raise the energy level, but in general I'm more into the mind-twisting Night-time stuff like Derango, Penta, Troglodytes, Fractal Cowboys, and the like.

You mention Tribal Records and Zenon stuff, also Boobytrip, Kybalion, Onnomon (some of my favorite stuff out there) - the new 'dark' and very psychedelic music with 'proggy,' funky basslines - I think it's great for mornings, I played a bunch of that at a recent party. Again, some people absolutely loved it, and some didn't.. Eh, it's new stuff - until it becomes familiar and accepted it's the reception you're bound to get, I guess. All I know it's a lot more fun for me to play and to hear than cookie-cutter morning music, and still very danceable.

so umm.. what happens after stage 5?
