hey

so many times i have sent someone a track and first i hear something enthusiastic like its really good track and u have put a good work together on this one, nice one!
and then the next time i talk to him/her i am told that "u should work on this and this etc etc"
whats with all the honesty man? just say what u would say and let one learn from it. Done give me false hope

anyone agree with something like this?

There is diffrent ways of saying things.

Dont depend so much on other people's opinion. It will differ from person to person anyway. Trust your work and do what comes from your heart.

This is quite common... What you should do, is to send low-qual-MP3s (also, put in some copy-protect-samples). IF the label are interested in releasing it, and not only use it in Mr. Labelmanagers DJ-set, ask for a contract!

It's really annoying when labels are trying to correct your trax... And quite simply, it doesn't work that way. Either they want the track, or you send it to some other label!

Most labelmanagers are also DJs.. What you should do if they start correcting your trax, go up to them when their playing their set, and request trax! It's just as annoying as what they put you through..

Is it rude to say ""u should work on this and this" ??

At least the guy gives you some piece of advice.. Up to you to use it or not..

well i think it depends if the label you sent the track asks you to change the style you like or gives you advice to how create music more proffesional

I have been honest in the past and the artist has taken it personally. After all I am giving a subjective point of view. So, sometimes to smooth it up I might say, nice track, great work but from my perspective you could do this and that. It is a way to be diplomatic and less blunt. The last thing i want to do is hurt the feeling of anyone.

finally someone thinks like me, i will take this opportunity to support your words. of course minor "cosmetic" changes can be done, if yourself completely happy with the final product its hard to remake it and you don't know where you will take it - maybe it will be even worse and against your will. artist should be unique, artist should represent his own art and his view on things, if an artist being commanded he turns into simple worker... so maybe its the commercialism ruines it, but why to let it go and make another step into turning our small underground scene (or at least it was) into big industrial factory. artists - don't make music against your heart, don't block your imagination, be yourself and you will find your way.

sorry if i will hurt any label, but hey if you want your music to sound like you like - go and make music yourself. also no one can ensure you that your commercial relase will sell good on our days (mp3's epidemy) so maybe on the next step or before opening new ordinary label think: you taking the risk, but hey maybe people like you will help our scene to survive. maybe the "quality' audience is smaller but they all thursty for a new fresh music, yes i'm one of them too, a psy freak that considered psy genre the most open minded - but now i found myself more and more into other electronic genres.
think about it.

Sometimes labels can give useful advice on engineering issues- if you're lucky to get a response.

When they first tell you that you have some good work, that's they're 1st impression- yes, a hopeful sign. But repeated listening will reveal the details, for example cluttered mixes, undefined basslines, and other frequency spectrum stuff.

I've been working on a collaboration project, we sent a demo version of a track to a label person. They told us the bass didn't have the drive. When I compared it to some released material I realized that it really was missing some energy- I had recently switched bass synths, so obviously I haven't worked out all the details. But I had difficulty hearing the LACK of frequencies. Because I knew the tune so well, I could always hear the bassline and must have mentally substitututed in some of the lower frequencies.

You have to decide which comments are purely subjective and which have a more technical basis.

Whether you put a duck quack in the loop is certainly your choice.

duck quack! that's brilliant!
I'm going to use that in place of the hand claps!

I think it's common decency and the 'professional approach' in general to first commend the artist on the work and then give suggestions or subjective thoughts.
