I mean dont get me wrong i like progressive trance but it can get VERY monotunous at times same freakin drumming beat(bass) on and on taka---dan--taka--dan--taka--dan!!!
Lately i have been listening alot to progressive trance son kite ,tegma ,nukem chab, ticon  and soooo many more artists, great artists know there work but........!!!!
I mean today i put on some psy-trance and i jumped up with energy, like i woke up from this monotony, zombie state!!
All these psychotic, weird nutty sounds just running around ur brain and body felt amazingly great :D
I mean am i wrong by think that progressive trance is monotunos and has continuos same beats ???? Whats so special about it????

Well, the point of progressive music is in the way it makes you think. Trance music - by definition - tries to get you into a trance. Progressive tries to do this not by taking total control, but from giving you a solid base (the "groove" which so many people are looking for), in order to keep you dancing and keeping the beat in your mind at all times, adding to that a lot of structure games in place of the sound twists and psychedelic ideas in psy (which is the main reason why people say it's monotonous), the structure being the psychedelic part (eg - the story of the track is the important thing about it, ignoring the rest), and the last bit - is that it doesn't fill the sound all the way, doesn't get overcluttered, in over to let your mind have enough power to analyze everything and build your own story to the music.

This is VERY good for acid. This is why it's such a big hit.

Psy/goa IS better as MUSIC. Progressive is the purest trance. Only very few psy artists can achieve those levels of storytelling without letting your brain fill in the gaps for them (Hallucinogen, Koxbox, Doof, a rare few others).

Full-on/Techtrance don't rely on your brain or a story. They just give power (excluding a few like X-Dream, Tim Schuldt, Synthetic, a few others).

progressive doesnt have to be monotone.
minimal trance have to be (but again not 100%) monotone.
i think u make a wrong therms use Nikki.
all kind of music can be progressive. full on progressive (Mark Allen), club progressive - Oakenfield, deep progressive - dj Nukem, house progressive - ??? , POP PROGRESSIVE - Emou...
i mean we call progressive this kind of jump up rythm with this metallic percussion sounds that come and back again and again all the time...
but i understand your question anyway and i think that u absollutelly right from your side..
i realy have this kind of "wake up" feeling but from minimal and groove trance.. more weird and psy stuff make me asleep.. not all but most..

what can i say ya.. enjoy the clorfull world of ultra emotions levels and come back to our quite and make his work slow and sure MINIMAL MAFIA.

amen.

for me personally it's a matter of taste, i do like all kinds of trance and i'm not "locked" on one thing only, but there's a time and place for everything, progressive is more challenging, and as music i think it is more intelligent, because you have to understand it .
some people think it's boring, for me it's delight ;)

hey guys...

i love progressive because it shows u that "less" is "more" (example: techno)..
one fx can be more psychedelic than 10 looped others.
one repetive beat with a little modification
at the right time can be more than a beat witch
changes every pattern.

its to look behind the big and a try to enjoy the small beautys in the world.(example: china tea)

taste it.

Well Nikki. Have your ever tried listen to this monotone progressive track after a long full on set? I think prog/minimal change the atmposphere of the dancefloor, making it happier, good to dance. Not to freak out, to dance.

I don´t think that this understandig thing could explain the progressive kind of addiction, cause for me it´s not the most important. And as Leon said, maybe it´s only a matter of taste...

i agree with zombi
house,trance ... can be progressive
so you really got the wrong term nikky

but i  must say zombi- minimal can be very groovy
i think that this is the difference between a good minimal track to less one

for example take midi miliz's black box - it's minimal and a very groovy minimal

I started listening to proggresive late last year. I like proggresive because i feel the cleaness of the music. No noises, just the good clean stuff. it is something diffrent from the other styles. I still listen to all the other genres of trance, i mean i dont think they suck. its all good its just proggresive gets you going when creates this rythem inside me, and gets me going makes me feel good.

As for me, trance track have to be like a story, with beginning, the "main idea" and the end...

Very few progressive tracks follow this pattern, most of progressive staff is just boring...

Thanks Nikki for asking this question and thanks everybody for your insights.
I too have been grappling with the problem of "boring" music,
as well as trying to understand the distinctions between the types of trance.

Personally, I still like "freaking out" to a full-on psychedelic set.
But, I guess as my appreciation of trance matures,
I may find the need for more "intelligent" music.

I find minimal/progressive music to be more "cool."
Personally, I would rather dance with a relaxed,
open crowd than with a cool crowd.
But, that's just me and just now.

Jako's right about personal preference.

i really enjoy seeing that there are so many people who i respect for their opinions that share the same ideas with me about this subject...

Blobb, Asaf, Zombie, i second those words.. nicely spoken....written anyway ;)

and Wako yes, it is 99.9% a matter of personal opinion... but you CAN judge objectively other kinds of music if you have an open mind... i think ;)
