Its been noticed on most of the threads that many of us say that the psychedelic scenes have changed over there 2-3 or may be 4-5 years.....or even could be 8-9 years...it used to difeerent some years back....

Whst is so different that has happened over these years.....I sure amny of us have different views on this one...
Or may be the changes anybody has seen during their stay in this culture....

Well - Not much has changed really, its more people who grow older and more mature - Often they dont find psychedelic trance as appealing as they once did.

Psychedelic Trance culture as such, is a culture which prides itself of freedom, anti commercialism and generally a lot of idealism.
When people get older, they often realize that this is more a marketing gag, and that the Psychedelic Trance culture perhaps isnt that different from other regular music cultures. (of course, this VERY much depends on how you integrate into the Psy Culture, and what you do, if anything, in the Psy Culture).

If I was to point my finger at 1 thing that has changed during the last few years, then its remixing psytrance with mainstream music. A lot of remixing tracks has been going on, this breaks down the barrier between psy and pop which is difficult for some to accept.
Especially difficult for those with dellusions of them being "special" and "more evolved" compared to whatever is mainstream just because they listen to some goa subgenre.

Now, people have been complaining about "goa is dead", "what is all this crap music", "No quality" and so forth for as long as I have been a part of the Psy Culture, which is 11 years now.
Nothing new there at all. I wouldnt even say its much worse now, than it was 1998.

So I think, its all about being dissappointed with psy idealism when you grow older... You mature, and start questioning yourself and your life - Psy culture tends to become a big part of peoples self image, and therefore its very important to them thats its "real" and "true".

In the end some leave, some stay - Psy Culture isnt perfect - and it does not nescessarily help the situation that many people tell others what "psy is all about", since often Psy Culture is not able to deliver on these promises of a free, non commercial and openly evolving scene...

Once people start realizing this fact, they start complaining basicly in whatever channel of communication which told them that Psy Culture was all these things... Isratrance being the prime target.... or in the old internet-days, the 604 list and other forums.

Now, Psy Culture is what you make it - If you dont do anything to it, it doesnt exist. People should grow to the task and take responsibility for what is basicly THEIR culture themselves, instead of yapping off complaints about being disillusioned and unhappy with the state of things to others.
Mostly, you dont see the ones complaining doing jack shit about anything, other than complain.

Its like,
- Baby "Mommy Im hungry"
- Mother "Then fix yourself something to eat for christ sakes!"

And yes, its been like this every since the aliens left

.....but, nothing has changed.... or, "the more things change, the more they stay the same".

Best Wishes

hey i just realised 2 or 3 things... no one cares to know about it?!?!

i feel the little knife being stabbed on my back reading your post even if very elucidative, again, i am disapointed with todays scene, today i feel the need to share and rant about, tommorrow maybe not, i'll feel indiferent, not because a psy scene was never present on my grown, but iam who i am. there's nothing to add, there's nothing to change, everything by itself will just grow... and nearby every beautifull plant there's allways an ugly weed... but we know there are some cool weeds, yah?
and let us shout when we feel we should, it'll not change a thing but will make us feel better, at the time!... and because we're shouting, it doesn't mean we don't like you ;p

I think Krell clearly has a point here. That is perhaps why I've never been disappointed because I've never involved myself in the scene at all. I'm just in this for the music, not for the people. I couldn't care less about the partying freaks in this scene. LOL Anyway, back in 1998 people were already complaining we were losing the old vibe and all that, so nothing much has changed at all. It's just part of human nature to moan about everything when the time feels right. And about the mix with commercial music: Well, every genre has its 'let-downs' so I would suggest you just pass on the bad stuff and embrace the stuff you do like. That way, everybody can be happy           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

Krell summed everything well, everything goin fine. I wouldn't call it evolution but probably it is a progess to something we can't understand right now. I've been to this scene since old times and every couple of years was a large change in what we call psytrance. Like every music genre it has commercial mainstream, fullon and sub genres of less commercial styles. I don't think we have something to worry about, since it is a progress which is better than staying on same spot as we were at 95'.

Community changed as well, it contain more members so it became advanced as psytrance at all. Please do not reffer advanced to something good or bad, advanced means, more processes in one that's it. We slowly move to next level of psytrance which will create new wave of listeners and soon same convesation will be started again about different genres.

How would i divide psytrance chronological history.

90'-95' - Pioneering
Amateur musicians with many creative ideas producing music, creative not because they are better than nowadays artis but because style was new to this world.

95'-99' - Progression
Slowly during these years amateur psytrance developed into more advanced form with many different sub genres.

99'-2002 - Depression
In previous part of time too many styles being developed so crowd couldn't accept it so quickly, so this part of time was less active than older one but it createn some borders for next age.

2002 - .... - Engineering
Style dead with ideas from all been createn for past years and it started to develop into more proffesional business system. Sound design became main factor for any musician rather than music itself.

Hopefully, next age will contain great music events and great sound which isn't the best around if we speak of psytrance avarage artist!
