good one kaz, not necessarily true tho. but i agree, i have to like the track as a whole picture. i wont love a track with a nice bass, but crappy rest. and i wont really love a track to whichs bassline i cant connect.
i like how things play together. sometimes i'm amazed by the way artists understand to couple "unrelated" stuff together. for example son kite's "on air" with the beautiful morning melody and athmosphere, yet containing sick, dirty fx. or Subconsciousmind, a guy who understands to switch mentalities and feeling within one track like nobody else.

what do i like in trance? I LIKE TRANCE.
cheers Rr.

I think both things are very important in a track.
I love those the artist that builds a track so perfect that uses melody and makes you enter in a state of trance (no drugs)and suddenly gos up a kick ass with a nice bass line.

i like melodies more.
also, i REALLY like the bassline when it fits the melody , i mean harmonicly, some artists don't do that, it's sad that some artists have such a poor musical knowledge.           u can find "Anything U Want" using the search...

Hehe !
The are some "rules" in music, if i can say so...
Music without bassline is not real music, maybe just some noises. A song is constructed over an bassline witch is the real "base" for melodi.

And also "music without harmony is not real art" Fr. Nietzche
So we can choose ... if you don't like basslines, than you don't like real "music"
If you don't like the melody but you like the basslines...than that meeans that you like music, but you don't like real art.
So i think both are essentials !
That's my ideea not a rule !!! Kidding, of course !
Boom !

Thanks for the compliment, however, I don't see why people should seperate bassline and melodies. I agree with Flake, a really killer bass can be the most non-descript simple one note bassline, as long as the track as a whole works. Everything from percussion to little squeeks and blips add to the groove or melody of a track.

Both very important! Im a freak about basslines! Is a essential element in any track (not a rule)... Is the bassline the guide your body and hipnotize you mind on through the music! I love Melodys also, especially the uplifting morning ones. Is the melody that offer you the TRIP, the Ecstasy, the vibe... makes you High!
A good combination of both is PERFECT!
Of course we have killer tracks with basslines and no melo, and melodics tracks without bass...
No rules in trance!

Baseline and Melodies, hmmmm....
I like the music when it comes as a whole - like kaz said, but I never can appreciate the music when it's too predictable...
When I hear a track for the first time, and from the baseline, or from the melody - I can just KNOW when the kick is about to break - that spoils the surprise for me, and I just lost the excitement of hearing this, though I know this is something I've never heard before.

Forget about the structures and the fixed harmonies you grew on, create something new, innovate, refresh the music world. Make a happy or dark music - but don't try to do it like others (or yourself) has done it before... Don't tie yourself to the KNOWN, but only to the ANKNOWN.

i.m.h.o....... Boom!

can't bass be part of the melody?

does it have to be tikitikitikitiki?          "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."
