I just bought this cd and was totally excited to pop it in.
To my dismay, the mastering on this CD is so terrible it's practically useless. It's such a shame, because there are some great tracks on it!
I'm not sure who did the mastering, but the cd sounds terrible.

i bought it too...and have to say yep..it's not a very good mastering...
to say its useless is exagerated, but for shure it's not a top notch mastering...
tracks from GMS, Wrecked machines, Xerox etc. used to sound much more rich and powerfull..i think it has not enough subbase, and it's to much limited somehow...perhaps i'm wrong..dont knwo..
but i like a lot the cd, nice tracks..it would have deservd a top notch mastering...
but it's always a question of the budget of course...
cheers |

i think it depends of what is a really good mastering for you, and what is really satisfatory for you.
In my humble opinion its very difficult to find out very good mastering works in trance industry.
Of course there are a few good works that i really like to listen, but in general iam desapoiting, like a lot of more ppl...and i know that the ones that i like most, are the artists that making their own work, what is really incredible in my vision of things.
For what i know, normally in other music areas (more in non electronic music) the artists just dont have opinion in the mastering processes...they can have some opinion in the mix, but in mastering no.
The enginneers do that, they know what every track need to sound good in all possible sound reproducers!
In relation to the money that labels spend i really don`t know...but i think the prices are not so low to make something very good and interesting.
I just know that in Big music industries the mastering processes in the majority of the situations are expensives, but in the final its good to listen the result...not in all of course!
sorry for the bad english and sorry for the off topic!

and one more thing.
i know some labels that are proud that their cds sound more loud then the others, what for me is not that good, and then you listen the cds with attention, and you say...pffffffff....more loud for what???... ( : |

Karma Cola of course it really really matter...and it all depends on what sound reproducer you are listening the music.
If you listen the music in crap computer monitors, of course you will not have the same perception that other person have, listening for example in good near field monitors. |

I checked the soundclips on psyshop and immediately decided it wasn't the album for me. The mastering has this overproducing thing going on and there's too much emphasis on the hi-hats as well, as if someone with hearingproblems mastered the whole thing. Shame, because there are some good tracks on it. Just goes to show how important it is to listen to cd's online first before buying.

Well I for one want my money back.
I could've mastered it better on a pair of iPod headphones.
Its sloppy and totally doesn't do any of the songs justice. Especially the first track, which in my opinion is one of the best I've heard from GMS in years.
Oh well.
