Actually Utopia 2 does have a mastering problem. At the end of the Parasense track one channel almost dies completely.

i totally agree, the mastering is one of the worst i heard since i'm listening trance...
i like a lot the delirious and black and white tracks, but it's impossible to play them even listen in in a cd player..
maybe we could have an explanation??? caus all the crystal matrix compilation didn't have this kind of problem...           Psychotrop(Neurobiotic Rec)

Doof's EST1 and EST2 compilations that i have also have some mastering issues. Although it's not as bad as here.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

Yeh the samples on psyshop do sound dodgy.
Is this another poor attempt to achieve loudness at the expense of the quality of the tune?
I don't understand this drive to make cd's loud, it probably comes from the same ethos as 'killer' and the rest of it. If a CD is too quiet then you can turn it up, which is preferable to loss of punchiness, or worse an overcompressed wall of noise and distortion.
Perhaps we should introduce an unwritten rule where the loudest/noisiest parts of a CD cannot exceed -10db rms (arbritrary figure)?

I had the same issue witht he Karmagedon CD. I have all my respect and admiration for Goa Gil and i understand it is a set, but the tracks do not sound clean enough. For me it is a shame, because those tracks are relentless and would be an integral part of my set.

It is frustrating, but I personally also have respect with the ppl who took the effort to release this projects. Psy comps take a lot of effort and time, but one thing is true the craftmanship in every single step must be perfect because the final result might remain unusable.

In relation to the cd, if you are not a dj, if you want the cd only to listen at home, i think you should buy it. . .maybe...hehe
its not so terrible terrible terrible!!!
Of course as we know its bad mastered, and no doubts about that.
But if you love very much the songs there what you can do?

Anyway i just hope that this thread serve to the labels get more attention on their releases, cause everybody want to listen the music well...
And its sad to the artists release on this conditions too!...

Yeah have heard this at mate's place, was pretty poor effort... hopefully they'll learn from this bad report and do better next time... I know that there was one bad track on "Fear Psychosis" on Paradiso... so bad I never listen to the cd anymore, just kills the flow It's worth the money and time to get somebody good to do it, 4 Carry Nuts studioe for me is the best so far...

good mastering is essential whether you re listening at home or djing in my opinion. there have been quite a few releases recently that i ve not been able to play due to mastering. its a real shame because it totally kills wicked tracks and makes the artists look bad.
i seriously recommend chromatone for mastering. he s done 2 for us and i m really really happy with the sound on any speakers i play them.

Why does this not surprise me ?? Somebody mentioned the mastering on utopia 2-totally hopeless with that ruined Parasense track and the very first Crystal Matrix release Awakening soul-really poor and then Life-fuck me really bad. The only other record label that has surpassed them for bad mastering were the old MDMA releases. I'm surprised that Shift's cd sounded ok.

hahaha! it seems they need to make a "remastered" cd, as if it was from the 1960s. rotfl.
