You asked me to ask all the artists i know about how they would react if someone used their name for a tribute set without their permission and when i answer back with a specific example that backs up my words you say "you never fail to amuse me with your stories and i dont care who you booked and bla bla bla".

I already said "And by the way you know that its not the ELYSIUM NAME that you register BUT THE ARTIST NAME ALONG WITH THE REAL NAMES OF THE PEOPLE BEHIND IT. These things go together and not seperate. " and then you repeat my words saying exactly the same thing (while reversing the order adding your REAL NAME first and then adding the PROJECT names under it) while somehow trying to show to the world that i said something wrong.

Thankfully the people can read what we both wrote and make up their own conclusions.

Have a good weekend too. (I guess based on your words that weekends in Denmark start on Friday, another fact i had wrong in my mind since i thought that a weekend begins on Saturday except if you are Israeli.......)

I am just wondering, on the event page it says that there is a ZENTURA tribute set. But no tracks of this project are released yet, some good stuff coming soon though.

So I think for dj Scenix in this case he has to have the files, which means Ace Ventura and Zen Mechanics are totally ok with this event. And I can imagine they are, because there new project can be promoted this way and it's clear that it's a tribute party and nothing els. Unless of course, the page is talking about separate tracks of both artist. Then it could be a different story.

By the way I know your not claiming that these artist are not ok with it, just a thought.

Anyway I think this community is small and if dj's can promote a artist in any way it's a good thing. But is has to be done properly and it's always nice if the artist himself finds it a nice thing. I don't think creating a tribute set is a nice process when knowing the artist in particular finds it a horrible idea and does what he can to stop it.

Anyone should be allowed to do it, without overusing the name for bragging...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

wow only after seeing this event i understand what you meant with this post... absolutely lame imo - place the name of the dj and the fact that he plays a tribute set to artist x, not the other way around! now i get what everyone was talking about here, using the names to lure people... hell they even use the pseudo artist names for the time table

btw kristian, didnt know sheyba was a FR act

its great news, i am definitely going to that party, no idea whats the lineup gonna be like but that specific production (and im certain i know what im talking about even tho its not published yet) definitely knows what they are doing... you are a nice surprise actually i wonder what else they are gonna pull outta their sleeve - now thats one way to pay tribute for the creators of this scene and goa trance specifically

one of the first tracks i ever heard in a party was the wolf track (ancient lands) its been quite a while since i've heard it in a party... gonna throw me back to when i was a kid

it is misleading, no one can argue with that. and lame, yeah... for me the fact that in the timetable they didnt even bother to write the actual dj names shows the organizers' intentions with this concept... but there are many more of them worldwide I am sure. I have accidentally came across the name/photo of the artist im promoting 2-3 times already on a moscow party flyer. Honestly, I dont think of these kind of parties as promotion of the artists at all...much rather as taking advantage of an actual good sounding name without having to pay the artist fee and travel costs.

An event with the name Tribute and a huge list of big name artists seems to me so obviously a tribute party, don't you think?

Also, asking 'permission' would be cool if anything just to let them know you're doing it, but if you think about it, 'asking permission' implies they might say No! you can't! which would make them sound like an a**hole or a small time artist (who wants the gig for themselves), so why even set them up for that? Just let them know in a respectful way and get their blessing or whatever.

Besides, what if they don't exist in psytrance anymore? Would Andi Müller care if I play a MOS set? Highly doubt it. Depending how big the party was, I may or might not shoot him an email letting him know I'm doing it, just cos I love that music he made once upon a time. But 'permission'?

Thats why people ask for permissions from other people because there is always the chance that someone might not give his permission for his artist name for example to be used somewhere.

Lets say i want to perform a Hallucinogen tribute dj set for example and i am calling Simon for his permission, if i explain to him what i want to do and he just says NO for his own whatever reasons then i must oblige to his negative request no matter if i like his response or not. Its his god damn project and his god damn music after all and he has the right to use it as he likes.

And if he says no and i say to myself "fuck Simon i will perform the tribute set anyway" then i wonder how can i pay tribute to someone who i dont even respect.

Excuse me but you do not need any permission to make a tribute set at all! Just as you do not need any permission to dj music at parties. Get real!           www.beatagency.dk

You don't need it but it's sure as hell polite, especially if the artist is still active. If the DJ is getting paid for the gig, it's effectively taking money out of the artist's pocket, especially if the artist is up for DJing producer sets.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

So to end this story you are saying that i can for example set up a party, put an entrance fee of 5 euros lets say, advertise HALLUCINOGEN tribute dj set by Detox and that if Simon sees that he hasnt got the right and authority to take any legal measures against me for using his name on a promotional flyer advertising my event. IS THAT CORRECT?           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

There is a BIG difference in OWNING (registered) a artist name and being registered under a artist name with your own name.

In Denmark you register with a organisation named KODA under YOUR OWN NAME and add your releases with them using your "project names" (such as Elysium). You do not own the project names or get a registration Diploma such as the one Dennis The Menace posted above (Way to go to get a Trademark registered in Sweden from an American cartoon - That's some achievement lol).

In sweden you register with PRV (Patent and registration service http://www.prv.se )
And you do get this diploma on a nice paper.
So yes, Dennis the Menace is a registered trademark and i own it when it comes to class 41. Class 41 is entertainment and culture. Such as music and perfomances.

And i see ABBA did the same..

You can read more about the classifications here, http://www.prv.se/sv/Varumarke/Klassa-varor-och-tjanster/Klassrubriker-med-forklaringar/#Klass%2041

And you can search trademarks here, http://tmview.europa.eu/tmview/welcome.html
