is a good idea, or the creation of em just shows the lack of skills from the DJ in the "creative" area ???

do you mean tribute as in a tribute to an artist - sorta anthology style set, or tribute as in a retro set?

there are a handful of artists i can think of that i'd much rather hear a retro set from them vs their current music.

but that just means i prefer their old style rather than lack of skills - take etnica/pleiadians for example, i cant stand the newer stuff, while their old roster is nothing short of brilliant in my opinion, they are a good example of this, but there are more (say x-dream is another good example).

lack of creativity, well if they only play tribute sets then yes. I have a feeling that only djing tracks from 1 artist is a quite lame and cheap way of "booking" that artist for a local fee. However, some local dj's have more skills in performing it than the actual producer pressing play.

Isn't Djing only one style with same bpm and baseline also a form of tribute ?

It depends. If all the tracks sound super similar then yes, but this is hardly the case in most sets. Usually I find that music that doesn't attract me sounds very much the same.

As far as tribute sets go, it shouldn't be a thing to be doing all the time but it's ok sometimes. If the Dj usually makes normal mixes and its a 1 time only thing its no problem. the artist better be good though.

If a dj like James Monro or Dino Psaras perform a tribute dj set to Flying Rhino or Atomic Records its perfectly fine about me but when unknown djs perform tribute dj sets just to promote their event or themselves by using other artists or labels names on the flyer and promotion then its totally lame and unacceptable by my side.

I really hate it when i see for example Astral Projection (with big letters) and under that in much smaller letters tribute dj set by dj nobody.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

yes! its kind of big in russia... they often even use photos of the well-known artists and write the actual dj names with really small letters. nothing more than a scam.
also if you think about it, shouldnt a musical project be inactive before someone plays a tribute dj set to it? at least that makes sense to me...
but as for a flying rhino tribute set by james monro, hell yeah when and where?

Sue i had the pleasure to host such an event in Athens just a month ago along with Lunarave. James was amazing as usual and the party was just great.

Like i said tributes are welcome as long as they are performed by the right people and with the right and proper promotion.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

There are certain albums from back in the day that I would love to hear played on a big system not just in my car or headphones.

Right off the bat I would love to hear: MOS - Bug, Noma - Navigator, COP - Alien Nation, PAPS - everything he did

I don't care who plays it, I just want whoever it is to interfere in the least possible way from the flow and timing of one track to the next.
To me it's not a 'tribute', it's just playing awesome music that never gets to be heard anymore.

I would pay a lot to see The Delta do "Send In... Send Back" love at 3am on a massive system outdoors followed by X-Dream doing "Irritant" with sunrise done by Spiriallianz "Stereo Park".           Cuntus Maximus.

I don't really care who's playing. As long as the DJ is doing a good job and the people on the floor are happy. The idea that only certain "right" artists are supposed to play a tribute set is to me an elitist thought. I chose freedom to have fun and do whatever instead of restrictions and people telling other people what they can not do.           www.beatagency.dk

Yeah well with a baby on the way at that time plus starting building a house a $3000 return airfare to Europe, festival ticket & associated costs were kinda a no go.

Last time X-Dream toured here in Australia it was when they were doing the electro stuff, which was not appreciated by the psy elitist here. Unlike myself who listen to many different styles and thought it rocked!

Any point is, after all the psy elitists complained no more x-dream or delta tours down under           Cuntus Maximus.
