In our ongoing quest for multi-dimensional expansion:

please rate the following in order of importance to you, feel free to say why and fill in more choicesif you feel they are missing:

1. The artists on the flyer.
2. The production crew.
3. The location.
4. The cost of ticket.
5. The type of show (live/dj set).
6. The flyer.
7. The proximity.
8. The venue/area.

your answers are appreciated and are being used for good not evil           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

artist
crew
proximity (this becomes #1 consideration if it's an out of state event)
location/ venue/ area
type of show
cost
flyer

p.s. If crew has bad reputation or are known to be in it for the "wrong" reasons then none of the other things matter since I wouldn't support their event.

Let us know the results of your poll....           Fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity...

1. The artists on the flyer - Most important

-The type of show (live/dj set)
I probably wouldn't go too far out of my way for a DJ-only party.

-The location
Much more likely to travel to a beautiful forest or lake than, say, inner-city Detroit.

-The proximity.

-The cost of ticket.
I know promoters have to cover their expenses and effort (and it takes a LOT of effort - people who've never done it usually don't understand how hard it is to throw a good party.., and not to lose money, either.)

But it's nice when you can buy presale tickets for a cheaper price.

6. The flyer.

1. Definitely who is playing. I am not going to go to a party where I just saw the same djs play a week ago or I see the same djs play every month. And when it comes to imported talent, it really depends on who it is... I would sell an appendage to go see Azax Syndrom or Psychotic Micro whereas, I wouldn't really be too interested in seeing someone like Electric Tease.

2. Location. It really makes it all the difference if I have to beg one of my friends to drive 3-6 hours for an event as opposed to 2hrs. This wouldn't be as big of an issue if I drove, but I am not allowed to get a driver's license...

3. Price. Times are hard here, and I have to pick and choose the events that I go to. When you really think about it, it's not just the price of the event itself, it's gas for the way up and back, food, extra curricular activities, and PARKING!! That can take your average $20.00 party and make it a $80.00 excursion. I personally can't always afford to blow $80.00 bucks a weekend.

4. Crew- Who is throwing it does matter in that regard of if it's a crew that I have never heard of, and they bring a ridiculously huge headliner out, I am going to stop and think of the motivations behind the event as well as the competency of the crew. If they have a few good undergrounds under their belt as have a good vibe to them, then cool... But if they are just trying to come up real quick by getting a headliner that guarantees a packed place, then I would definitely hesitate before considering going.

5. Venue... Sometimes a venue can make you want to go even if you didn't have a desire to see the particular artists that were there... But that also can work in the inverse. I am not to big of a fan of clubs. And when you combine a well known artist with a club, you can have some interesting situations. For me, it has to be a really really really good artist that either I haven't seen that I have wanted to, or whooped my ass the last time I saw them (i.e. Neuromotor) to make me want to go to a club. I am an outdoorsy type partier...

6. Type of show (Live/DJ)... Honestly, to me it really really doesn't matter. I have seen lots of "live" sets and a lot of them had consisted of computer miming. There are a few live sets that I have seen that have stood out though....
CPU, SCORB, HALLUCINOGEN, LOGIC BOMB, TIM SCHULDT, SILICON SOUND, SON KITE. So whether it's live or dj, it depends on what time the artist is playing and who it is...

7. Flyer- I personally don't have too big of an opinion about the flyer design for parties... I actually would much rather just get an email about the party than being handed a flyer about it. I have a flyer archive in my room, but other than that, most flyers that get handed to me end up in the trash. I have also turned lots of people down for flyers and just requested that they email me instead.

And one more point that I would like to briefly touch upon: Musical Flow

What I mean by flow is how the styles of each performer flow into each other. I know that most international acts like to have the prime time spot, hell that is what you paid for as the promoter, but when you are booking your act or setting your lineup, you must remember about flow. One of the best examples that I had seen in the past was a outdoor here in California back in November 2002 where Alien Project and Xenomorph were the headliners. The lineup during the Night was catered toward the darker stuff where Xenomorph played, and full on djs during the morning and day where Alien Project played SUNDAY MORNING at around 10 am... Worked perfectly!!! I think it is very important to take your international headliners music into consideration when you choose your subsequent djs as well as your lineup times.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

i pretty much agree with mubali. and i think he brings an impt point with his musical flow idea. it is very important for each act on the bill, whether it be hallucinogen or some local kid, to communicate with eachother in order to create a nice flow on the dancefloor. for example at the last ecliptic event electrofunks groovy trance was perfect inbetween body shaking hux flux live and mind shaking neuromotor, it was perfectly done.

1) Artist
2) Location - US is very big country...
3) The venue/area - Indoors SUX!
4) Production crew
5) The type of show
6) The cost of ticket
7) The flyer

Personally, I think that the crowd is very important element in a good party.
Nice deco is really appreciated too...
And of course, an after party is a huge PLUS
          Practice makes permanent.

what about the flyer? how does that affect you? does anyone hold sentimental value to flyers?

as for me i collected the synthetic-sadhus flyers, and as our own personal show of respect and awe we design flyers at Ecliptic-Trance the same way they did. does anyone think flyers play a role?           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Personally, flyers don't play a role because we can get all the info about the party on the net nowadays. If you know who is throwing a party, the acts and the location, that is enough for me to decide whether or not to go. But I agree that a nice flyer brings more "trust" to the event.

For me it’s the crowd and the energy that it bring along with him , now the formula of A great party seems to be:
(Artist*type of show (live/dj set)) + production crew + the location – damage to the wallet= Great party
Great party = beautiful crow beautiful crowd = mad energy
Mad energy = grguy

I would say

#1 The spirit of the ppl, who go to the event.
#2 The quality of the music which will be played
#3 Size of the event

I think the most important fact @ the events is the catharsis everyone goes through. More that the material elements used @ a party, which help everyone reach this tranceformation. At the end of these gatherings this catharsis is the ultimate goal and it will be a result from all the ppl involved in the event. I had 10 ppl events as powerful as 700ppl. So I keep checking and double checking... the message is clear Mars needs women.
