I'm looking desperatlly for a decent party with decent music in the Toronto scene!
The first and only good party i went to was the last time i was in Canada, in March, i saw D.J. Saffa(spirit zone), beutiful(Lakura rec. party)
The last one was when i came back, last week, D.j. yaniv played and a full on D.J. sense(eloco prod.)..........terrible,...........and people dance to it?
What can we do to make the scene more mature and underground? People here will dance to any thing!
PLEASE help me/us with the lack of info and experience that we are "experiencing " here!

I would say nothing. The scene is not mature enough for that. With time it will improve, but for now expect only this quality of events.

Great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from weak minds.
If you cant convince them, c-o-n-f-u-s-e them !!

jameson,

recently moved back to toronto ? i would agree with you that the last eloko party with Yaniv, was a little out of the ordinary, and I was quite disappointed myself - purely because everyone expected a complete psy/fullon set. His mixing was great, and he ended his set beautifully.
DJ Sense on the other hand played a great set actually for the small amount of time that he was on.
The BLA event with MoS last month was great too. Tetraktys is playing for New Years - and theres probably going to be atleast one more small party before that. I'd say the scene in Toronto really is'nt that bad - the vibe is certainly spectacular.

How long you here for ?

Hey there Jameson, I thought I'd put in my two bits. This is what I think. I think that if you want change in your environment, you have got to be the change yourself. Dont like the parties you are going to? Then start throwing the parties yourself. If you DJ, this is also a great way for people to get to hear your stuff too. If not, then start gathering some DJ friends you have, and/or start DJing yourself! I am not saying this is easy, its actually a lot of fucking work. But if you can bring all your friends together i.e. 'network', and find a good place, people will come. It may take time, but I am sure that there are many people who are thinking the same thing as youAand will be ecstatic to find a great party, the type of party you will throw. DJ Shankar is probably right, a big part of the reason there are not great parties (or at least not that many) is that the scene is not that mature. But I disagree with him on the point that you should do nothing about it. I think if you dont like whats around, you should try to change it yourself. Maybe it will not succeed (at least at first) but at least you can say you tried to do something about it. And if you do succeed, then great! You may just come up with a killer party.
I did something like this once, and it was one of the funnest things I did, and I am so happy that I did it. I am actually a bit envious, I think that the fact that there is ssuch a small scene in such a big town means you have a huge opportunity, something that people in suits call 'an untapped market'.
Good luck, I hope you take at least some of my advice. I think people will really thank you someday if you manage to succeed. At the very least, you will have a great place for you and your friends to hang out!
Wishing you the best, Spliffnik

Man,

Even been a Brazilian, i had a couple of friends that lived there (trance lovers) and had the same complaining. Do u now what u do ? Star something yourself, look for friend to help u ! Whem you make the first one, u will see that a lot of people will come for u, to help, to join , to construct. Do it from the heart that everything will work allright. I had the same expirience here in my town, i started to do the things here because i wasnt happy with the scene here, so i started doing myself, i´m a DJ also and do u wanna know the result ? I allready made 4 parties , great ones, and each partie is different fron the other, allways mpre people !!!

Good luck !
REzpect !

WTF? I see a lot of complaining here on isratrance but when the parties happen people don't show up. This scene is not immature or just starting out - it just isn't very well supported, and certainly not because the quality of events is bad. For rock star chasers we don't have many big names at events - this after many failed attempts to bring them in (example: Juno Reactor only brought out 300 people!)...

The Yaniv party was NOT very usual for Toronto... as for 'people will dance to anything' - the reason for that is that people want to have a good time. Some people I spoke to didn't like what they heard but they dance anyway - to make the most of the situation. Is that a bad thing? It seems positive to me. Better to dance than bitch about it on the internet.

Don't like the events that are happening here? Then stop being a big whiner and start organizing one! You will encounter the #1 difficulty with Toronto's scene: VENUES (unless you're cheap and just pick one that other promoters have already used). If you find a good one, you're in luck!

Not sure where to find out about events? I hate to start promoting here but... if you want to find out about -any- psy-related party in Toronto join up at Ektoplazm ( http://forums.ektoplazm.com )...

i think the parties here are great - and far from immature - want them to be bigger, make em bigger. show up, and bring all your psy buddies with you.

Isn't there another psy organization in Toronto called Deep Sea Fish? I ran into some of them at the Omnidance in NY.

To "Basilisk":
About people dancing to the music to " make the most of the situation", even tho they don't like to what they are listening to, is truly understandable, i see no problem in that, SEriouslly!,.........but.........i've been going to "serious" psychedelic trance party's for at least 8 years thus i can't "afford" to"spare" time in these party's, and just because i seek what i like and want, so i guess it's only my problem, i'm not fresh in the scene, like most people here,...any track will do i guess , like 8 years ago!
Believe me i'm not criticizing, i'm agreing with you.........

plus: just to let you know that i don't chase rock stars, but i chase the fuckin rabbit fuckin underground my friend! , with track's and project's unknown to the mainstream.

Plus 2: BUT........... You're right about making my own shit, and the venue problem, i do understand that big problem in this city

to Mr. basilisk:
Please do not get this personally, but, in every places in the world the trance scene was fresh , people didn't know what psy this or psy that was. Example:10 years ago my friends back home first went to goa ,saw whats going on there music and VIBE wise.
They took a piece of goa and brought it back home.
Now those people organize the boom festival, samothraki........
You said you got 300 for juno wich meens something was misssing. A party should have 3 important pilars: Music, deco., and the fuckin vibe, so i guess they were missing one of those.
It's a big responsability to throw a party, you must have good taste and brains.................and .......MONEY. If for 3 years people say toronto scene is still at the same place than the organizers should reconsider their job.
It's better to not to do shit than to do something bad cause me as a costumer that came for the first time in my life and see a dark space, no deco, fucked up faces on stuff that aren't supose to be at the party, and bad music i will never come again.
I'm not a big shot as may eventually say, and i wont throw a partycause i donn't know enough people and i don't have enough connections, but i'm dieing to find a good party and if with good music and a good vibe!
So my fellow organizer please show me the party!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I deserve it!
peace, shanti and all the dishes..........

What you find a "manja cake" with some back round and you say i'm being ambiguous! You see every body atacks right away with unnecessary adjectives( notice i sent no adjectives to no body).
I'm just honest and strate, and i like every body, so i use no adjectives to classify a post or a member so i won't piss them off so their answers wont be based on rage and anger thus people can think and answer constructivelly.
So i guess that's the best answer you can come up with?
Don't forget "moderator" we're all in the same scene, and face this forum not as a meeting between rivals, but as a "brainstorm" between people that are in the same TRIBE!
