Personally I find it annoying when someone pulls up next to me and they are bumping their music really loud. Naturally, they have their windows open so I can hear what they are playing and think they are cool, but I always end up thinking they are probably just insecure.

kiko - i agree with you...
its a big problem with noise!

i think its a fucking shame that they play so insane loud at clubs and parties.

there should be one of these at every party
http://www.noisemeters.com/product/soundear/default.asp

And about equal loudness, its pretty simple to play at lower volumes and increase the low frequencies instead of increasing everything...
if you want bass, then turn the bass up!

there should be more science before somebody turns the volume up at a party!
some sound pressure level messurements and general acoustic knowhow wouldnt hurt.

so!

The two most common weightings when messuring dB, is dBA and dBC

dBA being a filter more suited to the respons of the human ear, by filtering out the low frequencies and slightly emphasizes the upper middle frequencies around 2-3kHz.

dBC being a filter which dose not cut the low frequencies, at least not much. By comparing dBA to dBC, dBC is almost unweighted..

In short you could say that:
dBA, good for messuring high frequency content,
dBC, good for messuring low frequency content.

check this link for a chart and more detailed info:

http://www.grozier.com/whichmetricdbadbc.htm

also this is some of the content at that site.

"A comparison of the dBA and dBC weighting curves show that the dBA filter attenuates the microphone response at low frequencies. The A-weight curve has been used over many years to mimic the response of the human ear. But since the response of each human is different and the response of each ear depends on the loudness of the sound, this curve can only be judged to be approximate.

The A-weight curve tells us that, for example, the ear is 20 dB (10 times) less sensitive to sound pressure at 100 Hz than at 1000 Hz. Or conversely, the sound pressure at 100 Hz must be boosted 20dB to give it the same apparent loudness as at 1000Hz. This phenomenon explains, in part, the preference for bass boost in audio systems.

In spite of the approximation of the A-weight curve, this metric has been used for the may decades in noise regulations. The sound from trucks, power tools, air handling units to name a few, are regulated using dBA. In many music venues this metric is also used in spite of the strong bass content of the high-energy music."

and as you read i must say that psytrance being a very bass heavy, high energy music,
so there are pretty heavy soundwaves hitting the ear and tell me any person that does not have a ringing tone in the ear after they have been dancing at a party for some hours, if they dont have, they are probably deaf.

of course i like to listen to music at high volumes, but not for a long period of time! it should be pleasant not a pain to enjoy music.

there are many factors that is playing a large part when it comes to sound and how we precive it...
just be careful when exposing your ears to high volumes!

i know concerts and parties i have been to where there have been a very loud and bad sound, and comparing them to the concerts that some musical schools or educated engineers provide its a big difference,

at those concerts being held by professionals you can actually enjoy the music...

be a audiophile!

usually i'm with you on the car thing - only thing is lately i've been taking really long trips every week, 3-4 in either direction. and i realized that when i'm driving far and fast, it makes the music sound worse.

it's the road noise! at 90 mph (150 kph or so) the damn car is so loud, and its just in the bassline frequencies. makes it sound all muddy!

          sound is vibration

Metal and Psy Trance are two kinds which you just cant listen on low volume. I used to listen in on my fukced up PC system but now have moved to earphones. They are just mindblowing.

Though trance with driving is little dangerous - you never know when you will leave the steering and start dancing!

well i cant listen to metal at all... its only noise and shouts that you cant understand even if its full volume (it will only make the noise noisier)

but trance is somthing to listen in high volume so you can hear and feel everything...

I would not want to diviate from the topic but is it that psy is essentially for feeling and then hearing.

we always refer to this genre of music as feeling the music rather than just hearing it           Dont thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously use your intelligence

yes, but there are certain parts in tracks which use sfx and instruments taht u need a proper volume to appreciate..           ~*** You can tell By the way i use my walk, Im a woman's man, No time to Talk***~
