That's because our scene is small
Summa summarum:
Sounds to me like several mistakes were made on both sides.
First of all, don't travel to another country with at least a valid return ticket...
Second, check with other artists for reputation concerning the party promoter. Third, make sure you know who is the party promoter.
Fourth, if someone does not show up and I have been somewhere for too long I leave (put that in the contract if you like lol)...
Fifth, if you can't afford to get an artist to your party, don't book him.
Sixth, if you don't have a way to pick them up and provide for an artist, don't book him.
Seventh, I forgot the popcorn...
Eighth, instead of fighting the artist with foul language, try to mend things, your anger will only deter more artists from coming to your next event.
And lastly, physical violence is never the answer, only you giving in to your own negativity and not wanting to face bitter truths. Where it hurts the most is usually where you should watch the closest, and learn, it will help you in your life!!!

and nine, apparently say thanks if someone offered a place for you to sleep in a foreign country, because it might have been much worse for you to stay alone on the street:). you never know what you are up to in a foreign place. you might have gone home without your luggage, for example.
of course you might be a person who prefers just to take a hotel room abroad on his own and do not give a * for anyone telling you to sleep here and there, but then you wouldn't expect anyone to care for your bad health condition anywhere and just take it the way it is. lone traveller taking care for himself. don't be dissapointed that people dont care for each other. life is life...

Sad to read all of this, I'm glad nobody got hurt (yet). 
midijunkies' behavior is unacceptable, the guy is plain #&%$.
I've seen all of this before... This festival was doomed from the start due to poor logistics.
Artists should take care. Contracts may really help. Also getting info from other artists and traveling together as much as possible, etc...

sorry, this was not an act of accusation to your side!:) i already understood that you don't feel like there is anything to thank for.
i just think that may be there are places on earth (where the debate about the judgement day is more intensive as it was mentioned here) , that are less appropriate for sleeping on the street. but this is just my opinion. i would be more careful to sleep on the street in turkey or in countries on the road way to asia nowadays, for example. and if i do it, i might say thanks for having slept on the street:)
and also, i believe that he really took some major risk for losing his job by trying to do something good for you. even if you dont see his act in relation to what it costed him. just my feeling. bad feeling every time i hear about judgement days or the different names of god. sad that it only gets worse.
