Alright.. I want to make a little upgrade to my studio. It's been a while with the same midi keyboard. Like some people making music with only plug-ins and a midi keyboard, I would like to have a Virus desktop synth , but...

Instead of spending the money on some new hardware or getting a used one,
Would it be better to just get a Novation SL MkII 25 midi keyboard and stay with the soft synth's or not ?

Those Access stuff are just killing me!!

If you like the Virus sound so much, then get a Virus innit.

I think soft synths are just as good.
I own a Virus ti Snow, and to be honest with you, I'm pretty bored with it for some time now.
Actually I wonder if it's really all that great!?
For 303 sounds it's not that convincing at all, Sylenth is much better at that.
Basses sound kinda plasticy, and the FM doesn't come anywhere near the metallic rawness of the Nord Lead.

to me , buy the thing you will have no regret , you can always resell later .
if you go with the novation you will keep wondering about the virus .

virus b all the way, ti sounds thin and lacks any real character...#

to be honest i actually prefer the sound over the Nord as well..plus a lot more flexible

all it needs is a little boost from an overdrive pedal and your offski!           Â°Â°Â°ACTS 4:12°°°°

Yea, I'm now deciding between B or C only. But, still a little confused because I believe you can get similar sounds with some plug-ins

and maybe I can use the money I save to buy something else. (like maybe a big monitor to stop looking at my 15" laptop) jeje..

but analog is analog anyway.

it s not only about if the sound can be done in plugins, it s more than that , how a synth that is suited to you can influence your sound design and music cause of the way you program it/ workflow matter as much if not more than the sound itself to me. but that you can t know wihtout haveing your hands on the synth for some time.

you can emulate lot of virus sounds with plugs , to the point no one will tell if it s virus or soft..but what if the virus boost your creativity /workflow and make you program great sounds each time you use it hehe and in the end make you finish your tune faster wihtout hassle..
you need tool that are suited to you ,about the sound you can make great ones with everyhting.

You should look out for an ultranova synth.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

You think it's equally as good as a Virus?

i had a virus indigo (b). i didn't get on with it that well. i sold it and got a ti.. much better sound to my ears for the kind of music i make... i much prefer it to plug ins.. its really amazingly flexible.. the arp and mod matrix are amazing.. i also love the ease in which you can play leads ie move the settings as the lead plays and ending up somewhere different from where you started. you can do this with vsts too of course but with hardware there's no need to map all the controllers, etc. so i find it improves my workflow no end. the virus is not very fat sounding to me though, if i need a fat analog style sound i generally look elsewhere (like my ks rack).
don't get me wrong, i still use and love vsts but if my virus broke i would buy another straight away

Ok. I think I'll stay with the keyboard I have already.

Now..
If you could buy only one synth, which one would it be? Virus B , C , some Nord or other? (less than $1,000 please)

Thanks to everyone for helping me!!
