Very true. that's also true watching a movie or tv program at home..
However, if you where talking to somebody, like you do over the phone, is it not just a bit more than that ? Second Life will have voice chat in the very near future....

I agree... It's not good if it's used all the time, replacing real lifes' things... But think about it, typing on this forum is not physically, spiritually liberating, is it ?
Same thing.
It's not meant to replace one...It's a virtual space. All human's creations... No fractals in the nature.,, but in its own way, absorbing, nonetheless.. Interacting with different personality types can be a very moving, real experience.
Also , there are people out there who may have social problems. Maybe they can't walk. Or they don't have money. Live far away from everything. Think of the opportunity it provides for people, being able to virtually experience different mental sensations and situations....
Like all things, after a while, it will get boring. That's when it's time to look somewhere else, do other things... Can't possibly forget the world outside....

Not when I'm listening to the dj's from there in my own home.... *and* interacting with them.... I don't have to be staring into the screen all the time, maybe I'm having aparty here iwth friends in real life, at home,, with the music playing and the visuals on a big screen... ?

the only true way of existing is sharing love and modern technology won't especially help in that
..just keep on listening to mr bill gates that says that computers will make people less isolates ;-)
You should maybe try to embrace the world that god give you instead of jumping directly in the trap of the cyber one, cause human creations are always more illusives than god ones, but this we all find out very soon

I like your sentiments , there, Chris...
However, my point is that it's a space for people to come and enjoy *if they want*. Nobody saying this is the future, the parties over.....
The party has just begun - at home - on the computer - in the forest.... I know where I'd rather be spending my weekend

I disagree with some of the points that have been made..
Yes, sure it is a bit like watching tv, but far more interactive. After last weekend, I actually *felt* like I'd been at a good party on Sunday night, even though I was in the comfort of my home, smoking weed, drinks, and chatting to some of my friends that I normally chat to anyway.
It's not the same, as a real party for sure.. Its' not going to stop people going to parties , either.. I don't know why, but people seem to get this idea that people will stop their normal lives to stare at a screen... No ways... Real life can't replace this.. There is no ways I'm giving up real parties to sit on a computer.
When yuo say 'what good it's doing to the psytrance scene', have you thought about some of these things that where earlier on believed to destroy the scene :
* Internet
* Music download & pirating technologies, kazaar, etc.
There is the argument that it opens it up to more people , in fact... Some people will come, and really enjoy what we show, and want to attend real parties like this... In fact, we've introduced quite a few people to the scene like this... That are only pleased to discover something they would never normally encounter in normal day to day life.
I think overreactionary is not the way, with this new way of doign things. It's merely designed to be a place where you can come and meet people, and relax... If that's your thing... However, it's not for everyone. It requires high quality hardware to be able to enjoy it , and not everyone likes to sit on the computer...
Personally, I like being able to go to a virtual party every once in a while from comfort of my home, and I would love to see dj's from othe parts of the world play too, where I would normally not be able to do that type of thing.
For me, it's an added bit of diversity to lifes' program...

yeah you right about the internet and the ability of download music for free..
maybe i was overdo about what it can do to the psy-trance.. of course it's not like the real thing..
and it will never be like the real thing..
and hey.. as 'spytooned psytones' said.. we are living in the future after all
so why not as long as it won't be a replacement of the real thing. |
