Interestingly enough, on the last few sets I played in Germany after each set someone (different) came up with a full Chillum, ready for me to smoke, and always with the words, "thank you for the music" !
I should note that there were no train wrecks, maybe that is why???
As to Gils mixing abilities, he SUXX, back then and now. Once a Gil, always a Gil...
And the first was and will always be Laurent.
And there were more before Gil, which I have mentioned in a similar thread...
I would like to add that Gil is a human being after all, and a decent one, at least the few times I saw him, even though he once did screw up an entire party season in Goa...
@ Colin, I doubt any organizer can shell out this kind of $, you of all people should know...

If that figure is true from experience, ~$1k/hr = ~$80/track.

$17,000 USD for 18 hours of music with Gil,

This is speculation, or from experience? Sounds like a whole lotta money even for an 18 hour set...

From experience, Your lizzard has no reason to make stuff up, Straight from the spread sheet
The price includes everything needed to make it happen, rental for a week, food, venue per his demand, plane tickets, sound and booking fee.. All per his request
We can get into Gil crew dynamics, like east coast vs. west coast and how they are forced to compete as well. The West coast events are way cheaper and we've attempted to reason with Gil many times, doesn't work so well..
Some issue do not bleed from Gil but crew leaders or devotees "We" call them..
Could be why Gil doesn't hear us, we the crew, bend our own way w/respect within reason, Me been djing just as long as he has, so I don't look up to him for direction, just friends
He should hear us, we build his stage every year and make sure he is happy, We just have others to do the entertaining with him, everyone has a job roll and mine isn't religion through humans in dance music, we have our own dance...

I seriously doubt that.Even 10000 would be hard to believe.
I think 'the most expensive' to book is Halucinogen -not as shpongle etc-,but don't know it.
Infected or Astrix could get so much sometimes maybe.
@ Boulevard - thx for link,I tried to download it from that page, but somehow did not worked.. thousands of links there ..strange file service(side).

I doubt any of them have a salary (unless you count any "real job" they may have outside the scene). You may talk about wages, as booking fees divided by the length of work ($X per hour). That would be interesting to compare. Royalties from CD sales would be another thing (non-existent for most producers, as far as I understand). But I doubt any psy trance artist has a salary, as in "$N per year paid by the XYZ Corporation in 24 semi-monthly installments". |
