how big or popular were trance/techno parties during the soviet era ? right now i know the ex soviet regions are big in the scene..just thought it would be interesting to know more about the development of the scene there. the music is pre dominantly Dark, that may be a gross generalization...but is there any particular reason (cultural/political/social etc)for it to be so...it would make it interesting to listen if some light could be shed on this

Were you trying to be funny? You're not. Not funny. Have you seen documentaries about post-chernobyl children?

"right now i know the ex soviet regions are big in the scene.."

You have your geography mixed up or you aren't well informed. What ex soviet regions besides Russia and Ukraine are having a psytrance boom? Kazahstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgystan and all the other "stan's"?

"but is there any particular reason (cultural/political/social etc)for it to be so...it would make it interesting to listen if some light could be shed on this"

Yeah. Two reasons. One is previous musical influences and activities of psytrance producers. The second reason is the climate.

Trance? During the soviet era? Are you demented or what?
BTW the most popular psy-trance in russia right now(and has always been) is FULL-ON, not dark.          We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love... and then we return home.

Why be so dissrespectful? You to robomarket (though you gave a (semi) good explenation.) .. The kid was just asking a innocent question. And the history of Russia does play a huge roll of how the music sounds, also the terrible nuclearplant missfortune.

And FULL-ON might be the most popular trance form in Russia. But Dark-psy/psycore/dark full-on is deffently most known. you know.. dark, dark and dark ..

Acidonacid said it all.

lol

though this might be ancient history for y'all, USSR pretty much disintegrated around 1991, I don't think there was a lot of techno before then - I remember the most popular music style was a type of Russian punk music and also psychedelic rock of the Pink Floyd variety as well as some Russian homegrown stuff. But no techno, afaik.
          ..it's just another party..

i heard my first techno track around 93/94, last century already in ussr and some years after its collpase, there existed a huge information gap between the rest of the world, as it was with many other sides of life, because all kinds of information, inlcuding various forms of arts, was stricktly censored by the state.

i lived in kazakhstan till the end of 99. in 97-98 we had trance parties for max 100 ppl, in the beautiful mountains not far away from the city

"Why be so dissrespectful?"

Kire-Naj, you red-haired bloodthirsty viking, how am i disrespectful? Was there anything that i said wrong?

"And FULL-ON might be the most popular trance form in Russia. But Dark-psy/psycore/dark full-on is deffently most known. you know.. dark, dark and dark ..

But all jokes aside, full-on might be very popular in russia(i take you as a credible source and i believe you even though i really don't know if its true) but please tell me how many Russian producers are making full-on? 1?

G-Light, Zirrex, Neospherix, the list go's on and on....I could name much more who simply dont write dark, and I dont even have that big of a psy-trance(even russian) database in my head. I'm sure a few other users on this forum could make a 10+ list of the top of their heads.
Obviously most of the more popular Russian artists are dark, but if you ask most russian trancers what artists they like it will be "Gms, Infected Mushroom, Astrix, Skazi, etc...."
