yeah dimitry, rather keep the unreleased music out of this mix. when an unreleased song of an artist goes on the net, they cannot sell it anymore and not just will they loose the cash they should`ve gotten paid for the time and energy they spent on the track, but also the promotion they would`ve gotten by getting it released. (which is probably more important)

so the song will only be known to the mp3 traders and this is a serious waste of good energy.

by putting a dj mix on the net, you are showing off your dj skills and your ability to create a journey in sound and for this, you really don`t need unreleased trax. infact it might be better to use well known trax for this which would make it easier for the listeners to hear what skillz you have.

remember, there are alot of ppl out there that still love this music for what it is and don`t need to always hear only unreleased trax to enjoy themselves. those are the ppl you want to impress

This is a very good point...as when I listen to another dj's mix and hear a track I'm very familiar with, I'm able to focus in more on how its being mixed, as opposed to how good the track itself may be

Since u get the tracks directly from artists, ask the artists directly..It is the best i think...Put artists names...not track names!
U want to show your mixing technique to people not your music to traders!
AM I RIGHT???

if it`s not good enough for release, then maybe it`s not good enough for this dj mix either...unless it`s another crappy RMX of a great prodigy track...

In theory, you're right. In practice, though, there are quite a lot of high-quality tracks that never end up getting released, for one reason or another. Some because they got leaked to traders, some because they're too crazy, some just get lost somehow... I would consider some of those tracks fair game. Or should I not?           ..it's just another party..

Now the best idea would be to ask some of your artist friends to write a track for you for a dj mix... That way you wouldn't have to worry about the artist being pissed because it ended up on a mix cd before it was released... I'd be game for that. I believe in doing tracks for my friends....           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

i guess you`r right about that. there are about 7 damage trax which never got released, because of traders.

so i don`t know why you asked dimitry. it sounds like you pretty much made up your mind from the start. just remember that it was not you, who spent your time and energy doing those unreleased trax in your studio, so there is no other way to do this, but to ask those artists personally if you can use their unreleased trax in your mix....

play it safe and respectfull

I may be taking an unpopular position on this, but I have an honest question:

Why is it that this is handled via unspoken rules and physically getting in touch with the artist? It seems that the artists who are giving out unreleased tracks have very specific boundries as to how they want them to be used, and from my point of view, it is the artist's prerogative to insure that these boundries are clear BEFORE they start handing out music. It would be a very simple matter to affix a sticky tag to the front of the CD which reads "UNRELEASED DEMO - DO NOT RECORD OR REPRODUCE, IN WHOLE OR IN PART" with an optional "NOT FOR PUBLIC PERFORMANCE" if the artist would like the DJ not to do that. For Mp3's, this information can be included in the ID3 tags. But in the end, if the artist doesn't communicate their boundries when passing out their work, preferably on the media itself, then that's on them. If the boundries *are* made clear, which, as this post shows, they obviously haven't been, then I don't know a single DJ who wouldn't respect that.

From my point of view, there shouldn't even be a reason for this question to exist. It should have been answered before the DJ ever received the music in question.
