Since i get a lot of PM`s and Emails considering distribution in japan i will post all info. i know.

There are a few distributions here in japan to meet your needs.

1. Cisco Distribution-Very Easy to work with, send info. sheets about a month before, they take the order, sales go around 500 copies. I have heard they run a little late on payment.
2. File Records- A new distribution, many labels are transfering to this new one. They work about a month and a half before. They send out promos do the works, sales go around 500+. They distribute other music besides Psy trance so they have a good connection with many stores.

3. Wakyo Distribution- This is a distribution that works with Psy Trance only. They take good care of you and heard they are easy to work with. Your guarenteed to find your cd at every psy shop in japan, but they arent to powerful in others. They go around a lil less than 500 copies. If your looking to a good relationship in the psy community this is recommended.

4. VisionQuest Distribution- Contact VisionQuest for info. What i know, they have a powerful distribuition, promotion and all.
They have cd booths set up at Big Stores and advertisments in magazines. They use a lot of money to promote their cds. Sales go around lil 500-1000+(my estimation).

5. Limited Records- The Biggest distribution for psy trance in japan. Also the hardest to work with. As of right now, the only way to work with this distribution is to go through Arcadia, Solstice or G-moloch(organizations in japan). This distribution only works with organizations in japan.
Their requirements are as follows
A. Promo cd w/5 tracks 3 months before
B. Artwork, tracklist 2 months before
C. A release Party for the CD
There are a couple more but this is the most important. Sales go around 1000-2000+

Here`s what i know, good luck to all labels.
if you need furthur info. PM me anytime

good work Hikari.
There are much more business chances for selling cds here in Japan.
Many kids still buy cds from the store rather than internet shops.

Hikari who told you that Cisco Distribution (And the other distributors that you mentioned) gets 500 cds from every release that they deal with?

I mean from where did you get all this info?

I am asking cause i am working with some of these people and companies and the facts that i know FROM MY OWN EXPERIENCE are way different.

i dont think vison quest has a distribution... from what i know they use file records?!

as for the rest of the numbers, im sure it all totally depends on the release, so u really cant say that this distribution will sell at least this much and so on...

other than that i think hikari has stated some fine info here.

How do i know these numbers?
because i have used some of these distributions for my cd releases.
Also i get these numbers through labels that use them.
Also like Hujaboy and Taku said, it depends on cd to cd. Compilations, Albums sell totally diffrent numbers.
If your cd sold a lot more, thats great!
but these numbers are the average(median) whatever you call it...
Im just trying to show which distribution has more promotional power.

Visionquest, yes they dont have a distribution, I have heard they use file Records, but going through visionquest will help your label with the promotional power of VQ. So contacting them for distribution of your cd is a little better than going direct to the distribution.

a little update.

Hikari its normal for Japanese labels to sell more in their teritory especially with the local Japanese distributors.

The problem is what is going on with foreign labels in Japan and the local distributors.

And because i know whats going on with at least 5 labels in Japan (excluding mine) i will inform you that an average label in Japan sells something like 300-350 copies from every release.

Ofcourse labels like TIP World and Spun Records and Hommega sell a lot more but these are just three labels from the whole scene....           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!
